On Seahawk: Day 8 to early am Day 10

#61 Post by Argennian »

~ Dinner winds down and everyone eventually retires to their bunks for the night. The ship continues to lurch repetitively under the effects of the heavy wind and angry waves. It’s tough to get any sleep, and it comes in periods of a half hour to an hour here and there. The thought of landfall is perhaps not a bad idea suddenly, especially considering your current state. Add in the fact that when asked, the sailors all admit that it can get much, much worse...

The night eventually passes and your last bit of sleep before dawn finds you waking to a much more tolerable rhythmic motion. The ship must have changed course and the waves, although still large, are further apart and much less upset than they were last night. The rain has stopped and is replaced by intermittent, chilly banks of thick fog. The wind still gusts but is much less volatile and dangerous. You make it up to breakfast and find the usual fare and drink present. Ziller is already eating breakfast with a tired Captain Billings, Zimba the southerner sergeant and weapons master, Blic the halfling lookout and finally Sorel the half-elf, half- easterner human sailor. Shanny’s tea is still there and ready to combat queasy stomachs but this morning the motions of the ship are much more steady and acceptable. The halfling commander takes his time to talk with each you about your training to date and the skill sets and needs you have in addition.

You each get plenty of time to speak with him about these matters and after the morning meal, everything is settled. The bow specialists will train with Blic, who as it turns out was sergeant in the halfling army before their homeland was destroyed and he joined the Hatmarin. Caelvanna and Griffo will begin training with Blic, as well as Thalion. The Sylvan elf has decided and had already planned to become specialized with the bow for awhile now. Ulrich has spent most of the first week praying and meditating with and offering his ministrations to Jovak. The dwarven general is doing much better now and so Ulrich will now begin his nautical and sailor training with the crew and his martial training and weapon’s exercises with Zimba. Both the southerner sergeant and Ziller himself will switch off handling Bog’s specialized longsword training. When not handling internal ship’s business and training with the burly half-orc Bogdan, Ziller will be supervising the half-elf Sorel as he offers his experience and training in the stealthy arts and various methods of assessment, observation and cunning to both Lauranna and also Thalion. It appears that Emm has the invitation of working with the gnome woman and Billy’s sister Tamara on learning about various holistic and natural remedies and curatives. Every member of the party also has the option of continuing their regular martial and nautical training if so desired.

~ Day 8 progresses along steadily and the first day of specialized training is supplemented by the need for the continued maintenance and attention to one’s balance. The big rolling waves and gusty bursts of wind finally begin to die down towards the end of the cold and cloudy day as Hazara begins her pre-evening assault on a very dark western horizon. The wind still pushes in from the west more than before, the captain and his crew struggle to sail the Seahawk west save for brief times when they can find relief from the wind and tides. A thick bank of dark fog has formed in the west and the usually powerful and evoking sunsets are relegated to near nothing and pass quickly to bring in the night.

Dinner comes and is its normal, welcoming drink and fare, made enjoyable again by the return of the mellower seas and conditions now that the storm has passed. The day’s training was long and hard but very fruitful and rewarding. You’re all impressed at just how experienced those you train with are. They have a discipline and exacting natural that portrays a lifetime of training and service. There’s definitely much more to this crew of old soldiers and sailors than meets the eye. Even the other passengers you all sail with are all skilled individuals of one kind or another. Gentleman Billy comes from a wealthy family of merchants and is retired master thief. His older half-sister, the Lady Tamara, is an accomplished thief and adventurer and speaks many different languages. She is the wife of the elder half-elf that was shot by the female assassin back on the trail. Master Jarrel is a very wealthy trader and former spy and operative of the Allied Alliance that served under Ziller during the Great War. It turns out that uncle Ziller was a full colonel of Allied Army Intelligence before he became the overall commander of the Hatmarin Division. He was assigned to serve with Jovak during the Great War. Jovak was not only a general of the Allied Armies and a huge war hero in his own right, but a dwarven high lord and the former leader of the Obsidian Order, a specially-trained and very secretive group of dwarven cleric-fighters. The older gnome woman and her male counterpart are brother and sister and both descendents of a royal gnomish bloodline. Lady Jennynia is an accomplished alchemist and a skilled holistic healer as it turns out. Her brother, Master Najania is not just an engineer and astronomer of great renown among his people but is considered the leading authority in ancient archeology and technologies. The very old and venerable nobleman Ziffiris, another near victim of the assassin and also on the road to recovery in the hold, turns out to be the former sage of the royal court and advisor to the now past and always benevolent King Karagonia the First. He is a very old man and reputed to have knowledge in the arts of magic and illusions.

Regardless of their race and station, they are each of them renowned individuals of their own people and also veteran members of the Hands of Balance. They have all of them sworn to fight the corrupt King Karagonia the Second and the true puppet masters of the crown. They are all advocates, supporters and would-be avengers and protectors of the people. Each of them share in the continued hope to one day end the people’s sufferings and persecutions and would see them returned to a life of true peace and prosperity as it was before the war. Now that you have officially joined with the Hands, just as your benefactors, you feel that you are now a part of something that is both righteous and empowering. You find that many of your anxieties and uncertainties are now offset with the new hope and growing desire to strike a real blow, and not just for the people but for yourself. You cannot help but wonder and think of what the near future will bring, and it is these very thoughts that take hold to sway and tease you as the time to turn in for the evening again arrives. The calmer seas, the hard physical and mental training and the hearty dinner recently consumed invites a longer and deeper sleep than previously possible. The previous nightmares and flashbacks from the trail still linger but remain absent of enough detail and profligacy to interrupt tonight’s voyage through dreamland and the night passes without incident.

**********************************

~ Day 9 finds you awaking to strangely calmer seas than you’ve felt since just before dawn. You emerge from your bunks, cots and hammocks to head to breakfast and are greeted with very different conditions when you emerge on deck. There is a ominous grey fog everywhere that surrounds the Seahawk and it seems the winds have died down substantially. Hazara’s normally mighty and prolific golden rays of sunlight appear unable to penetrate the thick, gloomy mists and there is tension evident on the visages of the sailors not witnessed since that dreadful night you first boarded the Seahawk. The morning meal is quick and businesslike and nothing but the poor weather conditions are discussed. Billings and the crew seem anxious so breakfast is finished and the day’s training begun. He states that because of the very limited visibility, they could potentially come within a few hundred feet of a ship or another contact before noticing. He asks that you not yell or call out and not make any unnecessary loud noises as such. Training is modified accordingly and the day’s duties and errands get underway. In addition to many of the loaded heavy crossbows seen lying about for easy access, Gramps and Bradley are manning two newly-installed ballistae halfway down the port and starboard rails of the forecastle. The tension is noticeable throughout the day as the bad weather doesn’t lift. Most of the sailors remain quiet about it but old Gramps admits that the fog and very light winds could be taken as portents of bad things to come.

Regardless, the crew go about their regular duties as you conduct your training. The day seems to drag on, and other than a near collision with what appeared to be a large sea creature of unknown type and disposition, it proceeds otherwise uneventfully. Mighty Hazara is again hidden from view as the day comes to end and she slides down toward the western horizon. It seems impossible to know the exactly time or even what direction and speed is being made, but by the look on Billing’s and his officers’ faces, it must not be satisfactory. The evening is ushered in and dinner, much like the morning meal, is quickly confronted and completed. Billings hopes that sometime during the night the thick sea fog will break open enough for them to see the stars and get their bearings. He admits to be concerned that they might have already sailed too far north. He does not want to approach the main islands of Sprice Tridents from the north, due the treacherous reefs present nor being spotted by the natives there. He goes over emergency procedures of what to do if they strike a reef or impact a ship or other object. Dinner reaches its conclusion with an uneasy feeling and you find yourselves hoping that the fog will lift and give the crew an idea of where they are and hopefully how far away from the rendezvous point you are at present. Both tired from the day and meal, you retire to your bunks for the night...

... The calm seas are surprisingly troublesome to those trying to reach the realm of sleep. Every time the Seahawk creaks or makes an unexpected noise, the following silence is deafening. When sleep finally comes, it’s fitful and lacking at best. The night creeps desperately slow. Sometime well after midnight, just as most everyone is finally coming to terms with their uneasy sleep, your bunk, cot or hammock lurches. You snap awake, unsure if what has just happened was real or a dream. Before you can be sure, a scream from somewhere up on deck rips open the silence of the night, followed in quick succession by at least two whistle blasts and the warning cries of other sailors…

Declared Actions?

Questions?

OOC: ok gang, no need for an initiative roll here so please just post declared actions. All pms have finally gone out: *** Please read those before responding here! ***

~ Of the sleeping locations notated, those in the the forecastle or stern castle would be able to respond quicker than those sleeping down in the hold, say in about half a round versus a round. The longer time coming from the hold indicates the steep stairs to the landing above the galley and then up either the port or starboard cargo ramps that lead up on deck.

*** Please be sure to note your character's sleeping locale (if not already done). Also make sure that (where applicable) all new stats, Thac0, prepared spells, etc. are listed on character/battles sheets ***

As always, let me know if you need any further clarifications. Please be sure that your character sheets have your new stats and any current spells noted!

Bog hops out of bed, landing lightly on his feet. He quickly pulls on some trousers and glances at the trunk where his banded mail sits, waiting. He is surprised at how quickly he decides to forgo wearing the heavy armour, something he's grown accustomed to over the last few months. Instead, he just straps his sword and dagger to his waist, grabs his Karagonian spear, and dashes out to the deck to see what the trouble is.

Lauranna, likewise passes on her armor, choosing to dress herself in breeches, her parka and a couple of belts. Grabbing her short sword, she heads up.

"What is it?" She asks.

(ooc: primary belt, +1 dagger, purse, and the bandoleer of throwing daggers.)

Screams! Awakened from too little sleep Where? Head foggy as the day Sam! Sam! The young Druid whispers. Where is the candle? Sam did you hear that? Are you awake? She fumbles with her striker to light the reading candle so at least she can get her bearings. People rushing, stomping, shouting moving lights and shadows What is happening? she calls to a figure pushing by her. Her candle finally lit, she sees the child's large eyes glinting at her questioning. Stay! Emm points at Sam's face. She peers around until she locates her spear, just where she left it. She straps her belt over her nightclothes, complete with her blade and pouches, then swings her cloak (Not the new wool one) about herself, not bothering with her armor, or even her boots. You must stay, she repeats to Sam. I will see what this is all about. Stay with Benny! She throws the wool cloak over the small one as if to play a hiding game, then cups Sam's face in her hands so the child can see her eyes. I will return to you. She turns away then, hefting her spear and mounting her wooden shield. With a final glance at Sam, she follows the running Seamen to the stairwell to investigate. With more light anyone could determine the worry on her face, both for the child and for what could be an unwelcome test to enchantments not yet attempted.

Ulrich jumps out of bed, intent on heading towards the danger. If he can safely and quickly do so, he will put on his new chainmail before heading out. In any case, he will grab his shield and new mace, along with the holy symbol of Moradin.

Ulrich has been sleeping in the same location as Jovak.
How do we know you're not a donkey-brained man?

On the Seahawk: Encounter #2 nightmare from the deep...

#66 Post by Argennian »

Day 10: On the Seahawk (TOD: sometime in early dawn)

~ The shouts of warning and the sounds of the sailors’ whistles snap folks into action. As everyone scrambles out of their bunks and hammocks to respond, the Seahawk lurches again, this time momentarily listing sharply to starboard, as if it were a toy ship being tugged or pulled on by a child, eliciting more excited shouts and whistle bursts. Those sailors that were sleeping at the time, spring quickly out of their bunks, grab whatever weapons they have nearby and rush out on deck…

Those sailors and party members in the fore and stern castles are the first ones to reach the normally dark and quiet main deck. Lanterns have been lit and they instantly reveal a sight that could chill the soul of even the most veteran mariner. Wrapped around the main deck of the Seahawk, between the fore and stern castles are two huge tentacles. They appear to be greyish-orange in color and about a foot thick in diameter, and seem to be tightening up their grip on the ship. In addition to these, there are two more tentacles poking around the main deck while others can be seen on the upper decks of the fore and stern castles.

On the forecastle deck, one of the slimy tentacles has a sailor in its grasp, pinning his arms to his side and dragging him kicking and screaming towards the rail. Two other sailors are also there, striking out at the intruding appendage with their axes in the obvious hope of freeing their comrade while another tentacle tries to stop them. On the upper deck of the stern castle looks to be Bradley and two sailors all backed up near the wheel, swinging their blades and axes at no less than two encroaching tentacles looking to emulate their counterparts on the foredeck…

Declared Actions?

Questions?

~ The only party members on deck and in a position to react/attack in Round 1 are Bog, Griffo and Thalion. Lauranna and Caelvanna will reach the outside deck at the start of Round 2. Emm and Ulrich will arrive next, say @ halfway through Round 2.

OOC: This will be considered the end of the first round of the encounter, the surprise round having already occurred (which is what woke you up). So Bog, Griffo, Thalion and the three other sailors that made it out on deck can take an action for Round 1. There is no need for any initiative rolls at this point.

(I’ll allow you guys to apply that sweet initiative roll that Al made then! )

As always, please let me know if you need any further clarifications!

Bog, still trying to wipe the sleep from his eyes, makes a half-hearted attempt at a jab with his Karagonian spear...

To Hit, Spear (melee) [1d20+2] = 1+2 = 3 +1 Masterwork = 4, which is still not quite enough...

On the Seahawk: Encounter, End of Round 1/Round 2

#69 Post by Argennian »

Griffo: Longsword attack [1d20] = 6 Lg damage [1d12] = 2

Thalion: Longsword [1d20+1] = 5+1 = 6 Lg damage [1d12+1] = 3+1 = 4

End of Round 1

~ Those coming from inside the fore and stern castles arrive on deck ready for trouble! Seeing the imminent, deadly threat to all those aboard the Seahawk, they spring into action against the sea creature!

Bog stabs out at a probing tentacle with his new masterwork spear but misses. Griffo swings his halfling longsword at the same tentacle but also misses. Thalion tries to chop at another one the searching tentacles with his elven longsword but hews only the cool night air. The three crew members, Sorel, Kord and Mila also arrive and quickly move to action as well. Sorel attacks one of the two tentacles that are squeezing the ship, slicing it deeply with his longsword. Kord hacks mightily at the other one with his battle axe and also lands a solid blow. Mila moves quickly to the aid of those on the upper deck of the stern castle. She swings her scimitar at one of the intruding appendages but slices only air.

Bradley and the two crewmen on the stern castle deck continue swinging their blades and axes at the encroaching tentacles, one of which has grabbed one of the sailors by the legs. Up on the forecastle deck, the slimy appendage that had the kicking and screaming sailor in its grasp drags him over the rail and down into the deep, dark waters. One of its companion tentacles tries to lash out and grab at the two remaining sailors. They both retreat back around the foremast and rigging for cover and continue to swing their axes defensively at the long, greasy, suction-cup laden intruder.

********************************

Start of Round 2: Lauranna and Caelvanna will have made it out on deck at the start of this round and can take their actions. Emm and Ulrich will arrive about halfway through Round 2. Bog, Griffo and Thalion can take their next actions.

*** Everyone can now make their declared actions for Round 2. Please indicate which tentacle you are attacking, if that is your character's action, and roll for damage versus large creatures ***

On (center) main deck: 2 tentacles grabbing the ship, 2 tentacles searching for victims
On the foredeck: 1 tentacle visible
On the rear deck: 2 tentacles visible (one has just grabbed a sailor around the legs)

OOC: Even though Emm and Ulrich are arriving halfway through Round 2, they can still attack or take an action on the main deck. If they choose to head up on the stern decks, they cannot make an attack until Round 3

Once everyone has declared their actions for Round 2, I’ll roll initiative for the sea creature and resolve the round’s action. I will apply the roll that Al made previously for the party’s initiative in Round 2.

As always, please let me know if you need any further clarifications!

This time, Bog calms his mind and tries to remember his training as he waits for the roaming tentacle to get near enough to him for an attack...

To Hit, Spear (melee) [1d20+2] = 10+2 = 12
+1 Masterwork bonus = 13 (Hits AC 6)

Damage, Spear (L) [1d8+5] = 7+5 = 12
+1 Masterwork bonus = 13 Damage (if it hits)

Sizing up the situation quickly, Lauranna knows that the primary goal is not to get touched by those tentacles. Still holding her sword, she draws a mundane Karagonian dagger and looks to stab one of the ones on the main deck that currently is holding the ship.

[1d20] = 14 to hit, RD2 Hopefully it hits. might even get some bonuses.

Lauranna: Dagger damage vs Lg creature [1d3] = 2

After planting her dagger deep, she leaves it in and quickly backs away. Sword at the ready to dodge any other limbs.

Lauranna continues to dodge the appendages, while she tries to get a grip on who is on deck fighting, specifically looking for Master Ziller.

OOC: Rexx: you can go ahead and declare an action for Emm when she gets on deck. (Remember that she will have 5 segments with which to act! If she will attack a tentacle, go ahead and make her attack roll.)

Still waiting for a response from SL for Ulrich but will move the action forward tonight regardless.

Emm is horrified at what she sees coming on deck. Why does it have to be tentacles? she thinks, Why not pirates? She sees many Sailors rushing to arms, trying vainly to repel, and Bog with enough courage for ten men in the thick of it all. Her gut instinct is to follow his lead and begin spearing the serpentine coils from the rails, but her heart tells her something different. Trying to concentrate on the lurching deck, she begins a chant that failed her just a few nights past.

Encounter on the Seahawk: End of Round 2

#76 Post by Argennian »

End of Round 2

~ Those on the deck of the Seahawk continue their attacks against the sea monster's massive tentacles as more party members and sailors arrive on deck to take in the nightmarish scene. Seeing their fellows locked in desperate action, they all move to the aid of their mates against the sea creature as well!

Initiative
Party : 6
Sea Monster: 4

Griffo: Longsword attack [1d20] = 17 Lg damage [1d12] = 6

Thalion: Longsword [1d20+1] = 15+1 = 16 Lg damage [1d12+1] = 6+1 = 7

Caelvanna: Short sword [1d20+1] = 15+1 = 16 Lg dam [1d8+1] = 1+1 = 2

Ulrich: Light mace [1d20] = 14 Lg damage [1d4+1] = 3+1 = 4

Steadying himself and waiting patiently for the roaming tentacle to come close enough again, Bog times his second spear thrust and just catches it, impaling the grayish-orange appendage. Griffo swings his longsword mightily again at the same tentacle, now held fast by the half-orc’s masterwork spear tip, and severs it in a showering spray of dark-colored, gloopy ichor. Thalion the Grey follows his mates’ leader and lands a solid strike on the other probing tentacles with his elven longsword. The half-elf easterner Sorel attacks the same tentacle that he did last time, again slicing it deeply with his longsword. The big human sailor Kord continues to hack at the other grabbing and squeezing appendage with his battle axe and again lands a solid blow. Both of the larger squeezing tentacles are cut deeply from the multiple blows but they continue to hold the ship tight.

Lauranna and Caelvanna arrive on deck with Gramps, Arak, Hammal and Yousef right on their heels and also spring to action. The High elf moves over and sinks one of her daggers into the closest tentacle gripping the main deck and moves back out of the way. The Wild elf falls in next to her Sylvan elf cousin and swings her short sword at the lone remaining probing tentacle and connects with a slight hit. Gramps swings his hand axe at one of the gripping appendages but the second officer loses his footing and misses. The first officer Arak fares much better and lands a well-placed strike in his stead, cleaving deeply with his easterner scimitar. The old easterner Hammal moves quickly to the stern castle deck to aid his fellows while Yousef brings down his eastern sword on the closest gripping appendage with a mighty blow, cleaving right into a previously made wound and cutting the massive greyish-orange tentacle in half. A huge shower of the sea monster’s dark blood sprays forth and covers many of those present on the main deck.

Up on the stern castle deck, Mila swings her scimitar at the intruding appendage that just grabbed up one of her mates by the legs and lands a blow with her scimitar. Bradley and the other sailor leap forward swinging their sword and axe at the same tentacle. The third officer and his man both make successful strikes and near severe the tentacle as it tries to drag its victim over the rail. Old Hammal arrives just in time to leap forward and swing his hand axe desperately and just barely succeeds in slicing the appendage in half!
Over on the forecastle deck, the two remaining sailors continue to hide about the foremast and rigging and strike out defensively with their hand axes, albeit unsuccessfully, against the last remaining slimy appendage as it probes about in apparent frustration for them.

~ The Seahawk lurches hard to the port this time and it’s obvious that the sea creature is most unhappy with the crew’s desperate efforts. Down on the main deck, the far end of the big severed tentacle hits the deck and begins flopping around violently. Kord and Yousef are knocked off their feet by the death throes of the writhing appendage before it finally flails over the side and splashes into the deep, dark waters. The lone remaining large tentacle, although severely hacked and damaged, continues to keep its deadly grip on the ship. The last probing tentacle on the main deck reacts lightning quick and grabs up Kord by his legs, lifting the previously knocked over big sailor into the cool night air and over the port rail as if he were naught but a toy.
Up on the stern castle deck, the severed appendage drops the screaming sailor and retreats in defeat over the side while its counterpart strikes out unsuccessfully at the troublesome crew present. Over on the foredeck, the last remaining suction-cup laden intruder cannot reach its quarry so grabs a hold of the foremast and rigging and begins yanking on them with terrible force. The rigging on the starboard side snaps free from its cleats and the smaller wooden mast begins to crack and splinter, threatening to buckle under the immense strain.

Right about this time, Emm, Ulrich and Zimba arrive on deck. The druidess immediately begins casting a spell while the armored dwarven cleric moves forward, swings his new light mace and connects with the last gripping tentacle. The big southerner also moves over to the same appendage and swings his battle axe. He does connect but with naught but a shallow blow. The tentacle, although even more damaged than before, remains insistently greedy and does not let go.

*** Everyone please declare actions for Round 3. I need Nuke66 to roll a d6 for party initiative. ***

(Please indicate which tentacle you are attacking, if that is your character's action, and roll for damage versus large creatures.)

On (center) main deck: 1 severely damaged tentacle grabbing the ship, no tentacles currently searching for victims (1 gripping tentacle severed; 1 probing tentacle pulled victim over the side)
On the foredeck: still only 1 tentacle visible (1 pulled victim over the side)
On the rear deck: only 1 tentacle now visible (1 severed)

OOC: Emm was able to complete casting her spell but any results will not be known until Round 3. I rolled damage for Lauranna’s dagger strike and linked that in her action post.

As always, please let me know if you need any further clarifications!

Bog goes after the only target in his immediate vicinity - the large tentacle still attached to the ship.

To Hit, Spear (melee) [1d20+2] = 12+2 = 14 +1 Masterwork Weapon = 15 (Hits AC 4)

Damage, Spear (L) [1d8+5] = 1+5 = 6 +1 Masterwork Weapon = 7
Dragon foot. Bamboo pole. Little mouse. Tiny boy.

Sorry I didn't post on time!

Ulrich swings his new mace at the same tentacle,

To hit with mace [1d20] = 9

not quite connecting this time. I assume

Just in case that hits somehow:

Damage with mace [1d4+1] = 2+1 = 3
How do we know you're not a donkey-brained man?

Encounter on the Seahawk: Round 3

#80 Post by Argennian »

Round 3

~ The party and crew continue to fight against the sea creature!

Initiative
Party : 5
Sea Monster: 6

~ Whether it was the quick and massive damage from those applying steel, the young druid's speak with animals spell, other unknown factors or all of the above, the sea creature quickly decides that it's proposed meal of the Seahawk and her crew is suddenly not worth it. The severely hacked and lone remaining tentacle restraining the ship releases it's grip and the Seahawk quickly rights herself from her port list. The sudden motion threatens to take the footing of those standing on the bloody decks and everyone has to readjust to keep from slipping. Bog and a few others present still manage to land parting blows as the massive, greyish-orange appendage unwinds. The other previously-severed and still wriggling tentacle flops over towards the other rail. Up on the foredeck, the last remaining intruder is suddenly the only appendage the creature is holding on by, and before it lets go to retreat over the rail behind its larger, ship-gripping counterpart, the sound of the foremast cracking can be heard by all aboard.

As quickly as it started, it's over and the ship is suddenly floating unmolested. Everyone is left wide-eyed to look about at each other with their adrenaline still racing. On the main deck, Arak points at the foremast and cries out. "Secure that foremast!"
Gramps, Sorel and Yousef scramble frantically towards the ship's fractured component to tie it off before it decides to break completely free and potentially cause more damage. Hammal and Mila move to back them up after helping the still stunned but relieved sailor Farlon to his feet. Bradley grabs a hold of the wheel and calls out. "The rudder's heavy, might be damaged!" he announces grimly. Arak quickly sheaths his sword and moves up on the stern castle to assess the third officer's discovery, the look on his face one of concern.

It is right then that Ziller suddenly appears on deck from the hold, holding his sword in hand. He appears very tired and ragged and looks about at each of you in a panic, as if counting to make sure."Report!" he calls up to Arak.
The first officer snaps to from his diagnostic and responds. "Sea creature attacked the ship, sir! Snapped the foremast near the base and broke off some rails. Rudder's heavy and could be damaged. And, and..." he stutters for a moment, looking forward. Troc, Cutler, Blic and Tamber arrive on deck, weapons ready and obviously trying to determine just what the hell happened. Zimba points Troc to the foredeck and motions the others to take up positions on the deck as he moves up to the stern deck to stand guard.
"Who did we lose, lieutenant?" Ziller asks, a look of dread on his visage as he continues to try and count the answer himself.
The half-easterner first officer clears his throat and responds heavily. "Sergeant Kord and Rotar, sir"

There is a moment of silence as everyone looks around at each other again. The halfling commander closes his eyes and swallows. He sets his jaw and finally opens his eyes to look about at each of you. "Are the rest of you okay? Is anyone hurt or injured?" he queries.
