[Compled] Expedition - Bromric/Demon - 30 April, 1 VC
Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
unfortunately I can't access the die roller at work. I'll post actions for Martin later tonight.
Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
I interpret this post to mean: Melvin spends the round staring in slack-jawed disbelief as giant arthropods make off with his helpless and dying companionZhym wrote:Initiative: [1d6] = 4
Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Or it could mean Melvin's player will post an initiative roll but doesn't want to be the first to declare an action.
But sure. Standing and watching while the NPC gets dragged off works too I guess.
Otherwise, update later when I'm not on a tablet.

Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Melvin tries to duck behind someone else in the party. He holds up a hand. "Best to let them leave," he whispers. "Attempting to rescue Abi would merely deplete our resources. She may already be dead, in which case the expenditure of those resources would be wasted. If she is alive, the spells we would use fighting off the spiders and reviving her would be greater than she could provide—if she would even be in a condition to cast her spell at all. If not, we'd have to lug her around with us. And, of course, we could take additional losses trying to retrieve her. The cost-benefit analysis suggests that we should minimize our losses."
"I mean, it's a terrible shame," he adds, seeing the reactions of the others to his suggestion that they should abandon Abi. "Terrible, terrible shame. Tsk tsk tsk. On the plus side, now we know to keep an eye on the ceilings."

Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Now I see why you didn't want to declare first
Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Martin stares dumbfoundedly at Melvin for a spit second. "You are the scum of the earth."
He then draws his mace and wheels on the large arachnids, striking at the on currently on top of Abi.
Mace to hit: [1d20] = 4, damage[1d6] = 1 Well, that realy sucks....

Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Melvin smiles faintly and shrugs. "I am merely suggesting a course of action that would maximize the likelihood of success in our mission to help an evil demon depart the body it is currently possessing. Oh, I'm sorry—did you think we were on some sort of noble quest? No offense intended, Visitor."
Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Need actions from Seadu and Constance and we are good to go.

Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Constance winces at Melvin's inaction. "But...we must try!" the old woman rasps as she works a spell towards the spiders.

Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
At the crashing and scuttling sounds behind them, Seadu ducks and covers his head impulsively, then wheels around as he realizes they are not being covered in tumbling stone. His mule brays disconsolately, and tugs at her lead. For a moment he is unable to react, and instead scans the rooms for more spiders dropping from the ceiling.
He watches one of the spiders beginning to drag poor Abi beneath its obtruding tangle of legs, and sees that the whole party is caught in bewilderment and hesitation. As Martin charges in Seadu holds up his hand. 'No wait! He has a p—,' he begins to say, but is cut off when Constance jumps on the scene with her spell. The cleric's heart sinks as he watches the scene completely dismantle before him. 'What am I doing here? All I wanted was a cozy practice somewhere to live my days out in comfort,' he mutters to himself. 'This life is asinine—no offence,' he adds to Capilla.
Seeing no other choice now that the party is committed, and seeing that all of the fighting party members are at the front of the line, Seadu rushes to the rear and attempts to engage the spider dragging Abi away—not least because it might be less inclined to strike back with its legs full, so to speak.
Mace attack [1d20] = 16, damage [1d6] = 1

Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
From Bromric's action above:
Shortbow vs Spider [1d20+1] = 20+1 = 21 to hit; [1d6] = 3 damage
(Max damage, please, unless I can use a called shot to knock it off Abi without being able to further harm her.)

Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Unfortunately you can't get out your bow (they're carried unstrung and you had indicated you'd be using sword earlier) and shoot in one round. so--this shot is lost, sadly
Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Fortunately for Bromric, Constance's spell was quite effective: rolls not linked due to being on my phone.
---
The party responds quickly to the assault, whether the action is retreat or attack: Bromric's sword clatters noisily to the stone, ringing out across the hall, as he rushes to get his shirt is at until. Seadu and Martin rush forward, intent on ending the lives of the spiders, or at least forcing them to top their prey. Before they can strike, however, the faint sense of potpourri that has sat for twenty years on the coffee table of an old widow fills the hall, musty and nostalgic and lonely, and the legs of the spiders begin to stiffen and then curl up under them. The two clerics are also somewhat overcome by the fumes, and if they sleep it's for but a brief moment before their companions rouse them back to action.
Both spiders are now asleep.

Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
"Well, that could have gone worse," says Melvin. "though our teamwork could use some fine-tuning." He moves to kill the sleeping spiders and check whether Abi is still alive.
Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Only an edged weapon can be used to finish off a helpless enemy--what will Melvin use to perform the deed?
Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Melvin, like all men of quality, carries a rapier at his side. It's on his sheet.
Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Sure thing--I'm on my phone so that kind of delicate work is harder than asking (for me)
Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
May 5, 1 VC - 9:10am
Melvin steps forward from behind Seadu's mule and unsheaths his rapier, driving it somewhat shakily through the thoraxes of the two giant spiders. The things are brown and hairy, about five feet long, with vicious mandibles and stained with blood. They shudder and twitch as they are slain, greenish-yellow I nor seeping from the small wounds, but are much lighter than they seem they should be and it is easy to clear Abi's still form from its captivity.
The young wizardess has blood all over her face, probably her own, darkening especially around her nose and mouth, suggesting some horrible internal injury, but a small bubble at the edge of one nostril wavers ever so slightly, suggesting that, for now at least, she still lives.
She's been critically injured but rolled a natural 20 on her self-stabilization save! She needs care within the next hour, including warmth and shelter (you've got that here, at least), or magical healing, or she'll be dead by the end of the day.

Re: Expedition - Unpronouncable/Release a Demon - 30 April,
Melvin kneels down next to Abi and looks to see whether she is carrying any of the healing brew that almost everyone in the land suddenly found themselves with not long ago. If he finds some, he will pour it into Abi's mouth a sip at a time until she regains consciousness or the flask is empty. If she does not appear to have any of the healing brew, he will shrug and administer his own brew.
