You guys definitely seem to be loading up as if you intend to spend a few days up there. To do that, you'll need to find decent shelter, or camp in the dungeon itself.

I can't see us spending more than a few hours there, perhaps a day, initially. 1st Level Characters don't have the stamina. Besides, it's only a 3-mile walk...what could possibly go wrong?
:D
I'm also hoping we'll scrape together enough coin to mount a real expedition. I'll post in-character later today.

Torgyr is just buying extra water skins as a precaution. He's not planning on camping for long.

Three miles there, three miles back half a day of adventuring any maybe a misc day. Dwarfs come prepared for cave-ins and the like.

Looks like you guys are good to go, then? It sounds like this guy in the Tavern isn't attracting much positive interest. I'll get a post going for the (first) expedition this afternoon. If you want to finish up anything with this guy, or otherwise in town, finish it soon.

Remember, unless you want to play out a bunch of getting to know you scenes, I'd just assume you guys are already a team (probably a new team), probably traveled up here from the nearby big city, Adamas.

I am traveling this coming week, leaving tomorrow, and I am uncertain as to whether or not I will have an internet connection. It's bad timing, I know. I'll do my best to post, but I can't promise it will be possible.

Do dwarves have infravision in ACKS?

Nope. In ACKS, by default, elves and dwarves don't have infravision. Gnomes do, but it's more of an npc ability. Light sources also (generally) eliminate your ability to surprise enemies underground. The lack of infravision is very unfortunate for delvers, especially.

...I kinda figured...I looked through the books hoping, as it would really make sense for a delver!

Yeah, it's a deliberate design choice to really cut back on that power. Here's the thinking...
Elves and dwarves don't have infravision in ACKS. We couldn't find a source for it in myth and legend, and it didn't seem to help gameplay - it mostly created frustration and confusion as to when and what dwarves could see, whether the party's torch was ruining infravision, and so on.

We replaced infravision with a +1 bonus v. surprise rolls.

Ok folks, so we need a couple of things...

Are you going in? :)

Who is carrying torches?

Is anyone actively mapping? See the house rule.

Lamech, we need to resolve your automatons encumbrance. It is humanoid, so it can carry one large sack with 6 stone, and one backpack with 4 stone. It's at about 20 stone right now. If it's above 10 stone, it will be LOUD as it clomps through the dungeon above exploration speed, and may alert your enemies of your presence and attract wandering monsters.

I have to admit that I have no clue how to handle lighting. I've never played in a game that worried about it. I guess someone is going to have to fight one handed. Maybe have the automaton hold one?

The automaton can only hold one if it puts down its bag of torches, which takes both hands (see description of large sack), I'm afraid. Torches *can* be dropped in combat, but there is a chance they will go out if they are lying on the ground.

Consider that your lives depend on the torch just as much as they depend on the ability to hit things, or maybe more.

Tychon and Frederico have the highest charismas, so they mightbe the ones we look to, at least initially, for leadership... anyone want to step up and make some choices?

I'm posting from my phone at the moment, so I can't easily look up peoples' characters, but I would think Tychon will be at the front door the initial reaction. Federico can carry a torch, but will have to drop it off he's going to cast a spell. I'd also like to figure out an SOP for doors; something like Torgyr checks for traps, the best couple (thief or elf) listen, someone with high hp tries the door, then forces it if necessary.

Tychon and Ranulf are the strongest (Str 13)
The Torgyr, Steel and Tychon are most attuned to their surroundings (+1 on surprise checks, underground)
Torgyr is best at hearing noises/finding traps
Ranulf has the most hp (8) everyone else except Torgyr (5) and Frederico (4) have 6.

Solaine (dual wield), Steel (arbalest) and Frederico (spellcasting) are the least "torchy" though I could be misinterpreting some folks intentions. Ranulf can hold a torch in his shield hand, if he wants to.
