From the goblin's directions, you are fairly sure you passed within two or three miles of the standing stones but just didn't catch sight of them the day before.

Does anyone have a next action on this end?

Now that the deal is made, Ulf has some misgivings. It would be a typical gobbo trick to dispose of two enemies at once, both more powerful than the goblins, by setting one against the others. He idly wonders if the wolves can talk, and if so, what they would say.

No other actions here.

Be sure to update your character sheet with the Token of Nine Tongues if you haven't already. Where will you be keeping it, or to whom will you hand it off if you aren't?

Ulf will tie the token to his belt, and try not to think about what the shriveled bits of dried meat might be.

Njord says, "Should we go back to town and inform the duke of this peace deal before we set out after the wolves? I'm sure he would like to know about it."
The optimist, "The glass is half full."
The pessimist, "The glass is half empty."
The gamer, "I drink the water; what happens?"

Greed shall be thy undoing!

"Not a bad idea, Njord. We can share our misgivings with him, as well as the location of this goblin outpost. We can also stock back up on rations before we head out."

As a point of protocol: I won't ever base party action on the contents of dialog, unless it's conversational action of course. It will need to be an explicit non-dialog statement of intent, especially when movement from one location to another is concerned.

Assuming we are all in agreement, Herrin will lead the party back to town to see the Duke and refill on rations.

March 3, 1 VC

The party heads back out of the forest and camps just at the edge of the treeline around dusk.

Hunting Availability [1d6] = 1

A rabbit bolts from a depression in the moors nearby as the party is setting up camp, probably startled by a chortle of laughter from someone among the assembled group. Njord, who has been keeping an eye out for prey, fires a quick shot at it, which manages to pierce the animal's side and take it down.

Hunting Shot [1d20] = 15

Njord is happy to find his arrow still in usable condition when he reaches the rabbit, and he returns it to his quiver and the rabbit back to camp, where he cooks up a fine dinner for everyone.

Projectile Recovery [1d6] = 6

The only disturbance in the night is the sound of a few howling wolves far off in the distance. They do not approach, and the sentries see no sign of tracks or intruders when the sun rises in the morning.

Random Wilderness Encounter [1d6] = 5

Everyone except Njord, please deduct one day's rations.

March 3, 1 VC - 2:40pm

Location Discovery (entry) [1d6] = 4, Location Clues (entry) [1d6] = 2

The party travels southwest toward Vaul across the moors for much of the day, and is within sight of the stocky stone walls of the town (perhaps four miles distant) when the group stumbles across a shocking sight--a very rough set of animal tracks crosses the party's path directly, comprising a large number of normal-sized wolf prints mingled with a somewhat lesser selection of much larger prints. Most unsettling, however, is the presence of at least one set of prints of mammoth size--perhaps the size of a bear's paws but obviously those of a gargantuan dog or wolf. These must be the tracks of the creature Nine Tongues mentioned.

When a goblin describes something as menacingly-large, it's easy to discount. Seeing the tracks in person gives a somewhat more pressing sense of proportion, however...the creature might stand a man's height at the shoulder.

The tracks appear to be traveling from the west to the east.

Random Wilderness Encounter [1d6] = 2

Aaaand, during the course of that morning Njord has another hunting opportunity arise:

Hunting Availability [1d6] = 1

It's another rabbit, but this time his arrow flies wide.

Hunting Shot [1d20] = 4

The arrow strikes a rock and is too badly damaged to be used again.

Projectile Recovery [1d6] = 1

Go ahead and remove one of your arrows, Njord.

After seeing the beasts massive tracks Elbreth continued to keep a wary eye out to their flank as they traveled to make sure they weren't being tracked in turn. "So once we have found this beast how should we go about killing the thing? If what Nine-tongues says is true we'll most likely be outmatched if we were to fight it and it's pack head on, perhaps we could light fire to it's lair while it sleeps?"

"We can always recruit more for this expedition back in town," Herrin says.

"Njord, bad luck - if you need some rations for the day's journey, we can share. I have plenty."

March 4, 1 VC - Vaul

The party arrives back in the city a while after dark, being close enough to decide to push themselves a bit further in order to avoid any trouble that camping on the moor might bring with it.

The town, much like the surrounding countryside, is quiet, and the party elects to make a short evening of it before settling in for the night and getting down to business in the morning.

Each member of the party must deduct one day of rations and the cost of their choice of lodging. Work it out amongst yourselves if someone is short.

This expedition is now over, with the return to town, and all goods recovered have been apportioned among the party members. If there is further discussion to be had about distribution of treasure, it can be done ine the tavern. The Tavern and Town Business threads are now open to members of this expedition again.

Rewards:

Discovery of the goblin tree-den: 100xp

Successful negotiation with Nine Tongues: 100xp

Clue to the location of the Great Wolf's lair: 50xp

Total: 250xp

Divided between 4 party members is 63xp each, before xp bonuses for prime requisites. Please mark your sheets accordingly.
