Gurkidd's mace connected with the thug's head; a loud crack echoed across the hallway. The thug's eyes rolled back in his head, and his mouth hung open. He collapsed onto the ground.

"Micah!" Thug 1 screamed. "I'm going to skin you alive!"

Thug 1 bolted toward Gurkidd and lunged at him with a dagger. Gurkidd easily dodged the attack.

Hmm. Not a lot of great options. Doesn't look like Basic Fantasy gives polearms the ability to attack from the 2nd rank like Swords & Wizardry (they allow charging and planting against a charge instead). Don't want to try throwing a dagger at Thug 2, because if I miss I might hit an ally. I'm going to move up behind Gurkidd and throw a dagger at the Leader over Gurkidd's shoulder. He's 25 ft away at that point, maximum midrange for a dagger is 20, and max range is 30. So I'll be taking a -2 range penalty on the attack. With my +1 attack bonus, that's a net 1 point penalty

Richard runs up behind Gurkidd, pulls a dagger out of his belt and whips it over Gurkidd's shoulder at the Leader down the hall.

Richard throws a knife at the Leader. The blade spins in the air, only to land at the Leader's feat. He gives a smirk, picks up it, and throws it Gurkidd.

Thrown dagger: [1d20+1]=4+1=5; Damage: [1d4]=2

Cameron burst through a side bedroom, smashed the window with his sword, and climbed through the opening onto the side of the house. He spotted the runner: Thug 4.

The bandit, armed with a light crossbow, fired a bolt at Cameron.

Attack: [1d20+1]=10+1=11; Damage: [1d6]=3

The bolt misses.

Quinn's turn...

Quinn looks for the "runner" supposedly coming through a window. If he sees him he'll throw a dagger at him Attack with thrown Dagger: [1d20+0]=1+0=1; Damage: [1d4]=3

OOC: I tested this roll in the dice roller and it came up 20! I did it for real and it came up 1! Just Quinn's luck. :)

If Quinn doesn't yet see the escaping Thug, he'll hold his fire until he does...that means skip his turn as he just waits.

Gurkidd

Two of thy company are already dead and one has chosen the way of cowardice, comply with our orders and surrender or we will kill all of you!

We need one of these jackasses alive don't kill them both!

Gurkidd tries to subdue the leader of thugs but swings wildly with his mace and misses.

I should have done this with a -3 to hit and half the hit points. I thought I had changed the macro....but it doesn't really matter.

Not sure how we want to handle this mechanically, but Richard is going to try to convince Thug 2 to stand down.

Richard steps up next to Balteus, and points his polearm menacingly at Thug 2. He tries to speak in a firm, but calm voice. "You are cornered. You are outnumbered. Surrender, answer our questions, and we let you walk."

Thug 2 considered Richard's words and turned to the Leader. He returned the stare with a flash of authoritative defiance.

"I've already been tormented by you 'Guardsmen,' and I ain't letting you take me again."

The polearm pierced the Thug's armor into his belly. He looked up at Richard and gave him a devious smile. Blood trickled out of the corners of his mouth. He sucked in air and spat a mouthful of blood and bile at Richard, the filth splattered over his face and clothes. The Thug slooped to the floor.

Meanwhile, the Leader swung his sword at Gurkidd.

Attack: [1d20+1]=4+1=5; Damage: [1d6]=4

The attack missed.

Outside, Cameron ran at Thug 4 and tried to tackle him. The Thug dodged the move. He pointed the crossbow at Cameron, but the guard grabbed the weapon and pointed it to the ground. The bolt fired and landed in the dirt. They're locked in a struggle to control the crossbow.

OOC: It's coming up on Quinn's turn, so I'll post his attempted actions. Clearly he's as clumsy as he's rash so who knows what will actually happen! :)

Quinn yanks the dagger out of his robe that has him pinned to the ground and runs toward the struggling guardsman and thug. He can't chance a dagger throw as he is as likely to hit Cameron as the thug and clearly more likely to miss both, but he has to do something.

If he reaches them this turn, he will attempt to shove the dagger he is holding into the Thug's back! Melee Attack with Dagger: [1d20-1]=4-1=3; Damage: [1d4]=1 Clearly missing! again the test roll would have hit, but not the actual one :(

Re: Quest #1

#79 Post by BaltoBruiser »

here is what I found:
Subduing Damage
Attacks made with the "flat of the blade" for non-lethal damage are made at a -4 attack penalty and do half damage. Most weapons can be used this way; only those with penetration or slashing features on all sides cannot.
If a character is reduced to zero hit points who has taken at least some subduing damage, and the total amount of normal (killing) damage the character has suffered is not equal to or greater than their total hit points, the character becomes unconscious rather than dying. (Any further subduing damage is then considered killing damage, allowing the possibility that someone might be beaten to death.) A character knocked out in this way, but not subsequently killed, will wake up with 1 hit point in 1d4 turns, or can be awakened (with 1 hit point) by someone else after 2d10 rounds.

So I would say your attack "to hit" would have been a 15 and you would have done 1/2 damage to subdue? Nemesis is that right?

Unfortunately, this attempt isn't possible because each dot on the map is about 5 feet, and with your movement speed being 40, you're not close enough to stab Thug 4. I'm assuming Quinn wants to move 40 feet toward Cameron and the Thug 4 and updated the map. Let me know if I should amend that.

Correct. Elysium's official subdue attack roll should been [1d20+1-4]. That's okay. We'll take the result of his roll: 15 to hit and 4 damage, which is a miss on the leader.
