Ch. 2: Finally Inside the Tomb

Skiiratch chuckles, "hehe... just messin' with ya. Don't think I'm going to push this thing without a 10' pole." He stops laughing and becomes very serious. "Did anyone bring a 10' pole??"

I have my Jo Stick Bindle indicates the stick he's been using to knock on the floor that's next to the pit. If I stretch I can get 10 feet with it.

[Bhart]

Bindle will stand back and reach out with his Jo Stick jabbing hard at the floor that hasn't fallen next to the pit to see if it does the same.

You stab at the floor to the east of the pit. It appears to be solid. This is confirmed as McCloud steps on it as he edges his way around the pit checking the floor for traps.

seeing the pit open up and 'swallow' Erod', McCloud will express part disgust at such a trap and part delight that it was found. How much of the 'red tile words' can we see remaining. Urdak has his torch lit and we have a continual light source....McCloud will edge around the open pit (Checking floor seams for more pits and moving walls) and move onto the next sq with red tiles on to try and discover any more writings...."perhaps just the vain goadings of a dead man or clues to trap the unwary and lead the wise?" (McCloud trying to unconvincingly sound venerably wise!).

You make your way around the edge of the pit carefully, but not careful enough. When you reach the south east corner of the pit you realize that you missed something...
I need a percentile roll followed by a 1d6 please

Tix is amused by the floating impaled dwarf. He will stay on the chest to help skiiratch with the chest. After that is resolved he will plop down and move carefully over to the other side of the pit (the one on the far side of the party) by cautiously moving around the pit (staying close to its ledge and checking with every step) to inspect the wall near the painted door. All the muttering under his breath about how old his bones are, and how there is no cheese in this dungeon. Any descent dungeon would at least have refreshments.

You begin to move around the pit, but Mc Cloud is already ahead of you. You notice the seam in the floor that he seemed to miss, but a second too late. He steps onto the suspicious section of floor before you can call out.

Quinn continues forward and takes position alongside the pit that swallowed Erodhon’s body. He will use his spear to test the floor in front of his desired walking path.

“Perhaps we should tie a rope around the lead man and keep it tight? That way if more pits open we can stop the fall and hopefully prevent him from being impalled on the spikes.”

[Stirling]

McCloud will ease his way around the open pit trying to focus on the tiles ahead and not on the impaled body of the elf below... he couldn't help it, he just had to glance back at the smiling grotesque visage...the nerves on the back of his head suddenly stood to attention screaming that he was about to be turned into some 'pillar of salt'...with an involuntary crotch clutch he hoped his 'boots of springing' might be enough to save him from any impending doom? what was it he had missed...?

The floor suddenly opens up underneath McCloud as he triggers a pit trap. The luckiest man alive somehow manages to grab the edge of the pit as he falls. As he dangles from the edge he can see 5 very large and nasty spikes below, one of them directly underneath him.

Halfn-Elfn Cloud! Hold! Hold! The Dwarf bolts to action before thoroughly contemplating the possible consequences. (Who'da thunk?) Around the 1st pit he runs, almost bowling Tixs over in the process, getting as close to McCloud as he is able, then slams the business end of his pick into the stone floor. He wraps his wrist in the hilt thong and stretches toward the Half-Elf. Reach!!!

"Screw this...", Skiiratch thinks to himself as he activates his new boots and gently levitates into the air high enough that he can reach up and touch the ceiling with his hands.

He then propels himself down the hallway by "walking" with one hand while he lights his way with the MagLite in the other.

"stealth elf, stealth elf!!"....McCloud mutters under his breath whilst slapping his forehead with his hand. It was lucky he had both hands free with leaving his pack by the entrance and thus grabbed a fingertip hold on the floor as the tiles collasped downward. A pointy spike a hairs breath away from scratching (or worse) his backside!

MCloud will climb back up and firstly take off his boots, clip their heels together and remind them to 'spring' into action next time! He'll then cast a glance down at Erod's grinning face in the next pit and ask him"what you lookng at?" Seeing Skiiratch traverse the ceiling he'll 'high five' him on his way by and break out in a rendition of "spider-Ski, spider-Ski, does whatever a spider-Ski does..."

It was a few minutes later with the help of Urdaks' strong hand and a dram or two of the malt whisky remains that he recovered from the shock of near death and become his usual dour self....


With that McCloud will try to make out what he can of the word puzzle on the remaining tile path and what clues or pictures any of the wall frescoes can tell?

Urdak hoists you out of the pit with out much effort. You are to the north of the pit you fell in (see map).
So you will step across the point where to 2 pits meet to examine the remainder of the red tile path?

As you bob down the hallway like a balloon your light reveals the end of the hallway. The first thing you notice is a great green devil face leering back at you with it's mouth agape. The carving is set in the south wall. To the left on the east wall is an archway filled with swirling mist.

Before he goes any further down the hall, he'll lower himself where he is to just above the floor and examine the surrounding floor area for more spike traps/pits.

When Skiiratch floats down and begins searching for more pits he notices something odd. He is slowly drifting south as if some breeze were pushing him along, yet the air feels very still.

Ironbeard will yank his pick free with some effort and a grunt.

Skarlos stays at the entrancen watching the sheninghans in the hallway. He hails Skiiratch:

"Master Elf what do the rest of the words in the path say?"

McCloud will stay put on this square for now but will try and use his 'traps' skills to determine how these death pits are operating. They seem counter balance weighted...any weight, can a 1/2ling move safely, cat? feather?, any trigger wires, once 'found' and open, can they be reset and become floor again?

"did anyone pull the lever from the jackal box, maybe it is a safety for these pits and turns them on and off? Want to give it a try Tics?"

Skiiratch steadies himself against one of the walls and tries to read any text on the floor.
