Considering how close we are to the breach we came in through, the tunnel might not even be all that stable to begin with.

Keehnelf, would Orrin see a way to bring part of the tunnel down?

While the others are deciding on a plan, Krysta offers her last bit of healing for the day to Bertram.

Yes, Orrin would get a check to identify a way to safely collapse the tunnel. 1-2 he succeeds and is right, 3-5 he fails but recognizes the he doesn't know, 6 he fails but thinks it's safe to collapse it.

So if Orrin thinks he's found a safe way to collapse the tunnel, there's a 2 in 3 chance he's right about it being safe.

What do you think, all—still a good idea? :)

Party leader executive decision: let's do it. If possible, Lug will do whatever needs to be done so he's the one at risk, not Orrin.

But he'll leave the honey of passage and censer of peace with someone else, just in case. :)

May 26, 1 VC - 9:30am

The party unhappily watches the gnoll disappear around the far corner and turns itself to another strategy. As Orrin begins to investigate with Lug as a guard, the other party members revive Bertram.

Orrin goes to work inspecting the area and is heartened to see that he understands the underlying principles by which these tunnels have been constructed and fortified. With time, he thinks, he can find a weak spot and collapse the tunnel, so he begins rapidly investigating the most sensitive load-bearing elements. Unfortunately, as he makes his examination of the last of these structures, he must unfortunately report that the recent shake-up and collapse has cracked several sections of the structure in places that leave him unable to make a reliable estimate of the best place to make the collapse happen. With time, it could be done, but that would be a matter of hours and not minutes.

Knock it down [1d6] = 4

So far, there is no sign of an approach from the direction the gnoll fled.

"Darn," says Lug. "But maybe they won't come back right away. Orrin, would you keep looking at the walls? If we do have hours before anyone comes back, let's use 'em. Bertram, welcome back. Would you mind helping me drag the giant down the hall? Let's make us a barricade out of his body. Maybe we could even soak it in oil, so we could light him if we need a bigger barrier."

"That okay with everyone?" he asks.

Have we already searched the bodies?

Bertram still at -2 hp until someone uses healing draught on him

In that case, let's have Galen administer sips of Bertram's potion to him until he wakes up. Krysta can help Lug move the giant.

Does Krysta thus get him to 0?

Yes, he only needs 1 sip of the potion to get him conscious.

Sorry, I already modified Bertram's hit points based off of Krysta's healing. He was previously at -4. Krysta brings him to -2. Galen can move him to 1 by using up the remainder of Bertam's potion (3 sips).

Healing Draught deducted

Bertram sputters and coughs and he sits up, looking around him. He acknowledges Lug's question and hoarsely answers, "Aye...", before going into another fit of coughing. He suffices to nod instead and lifts himself up with Galen's assistance, and retrieves his sword before walking to the giant corpse to help Lug move it.

Is the goal to remain there until: a) Orrin figures out how to safely collapse the tunnel, or b) something else happens? Or is there a time limit you're concerned with?

We're pretty beat up. We need to recuperate. Here seems about as good a spot as anywhere else we could get to. So the idea is to hole up for at least a night so we can get some healing spells again. And if we're going to be around that long anyway, Orrin might as well keep looking for a safe way to bring the walls down in case we need to do that.

It's a big damn mountain. Maybe it'd take the gnoll several hours to get back to its boss and bring another party back.

I'm okay with your plan, Lug...not like I have a better. :D

Galen assists in shifting the giant's carcass, and does whatever else he can to make the room defensible.

March 26, 1 VC - 9:40am

The party works to move the giant carcass into the hall to prevent an easy attack on them from that direction while Orrin continues his examination of the structure in hopes of finding a way to collapse it more permanently (but safely).

After only a few minutes of work, just as the spellcasters are settling in to begin resting, a voice calls out from the hall:

In Lawful:
"Hail, travelers--you seem to have found yourself in a bit of danger! Is there anything we can do to assist you?"
Peering over the giant corpse, the group spies a trio of humans rounding the corner, the leader with a torch in one hand and a spear in the other. It is the leather-clad northmen, Kieros and his two companions.

Krysta breathes a sigh of relief and waves at the Kieros and friends. "Your help is much welcomed! We are indeed in dire straits. Praise Pelor for your arrival."

Lug offers a friendly wave. Remembering his bad luck at making friends with these people before, he lets others do the talking for now.

I'm assuming Orrin is still translating for us.
