Apologies, my mistake. I thought she was in combat with the little ones and the big ones were spell casting. How far to the shore line does she think it is?

She is about 10 feet out from the sandy shoreline. In about 1-2 feet of water. There is one large ray on her, and another about 10 feet away. (and 4 of them sleeping on the bottom)

Awesome, thanks for the clarification. Appreciate it.

Jinx will slash at the critter with her hand axes and then move back towards the shore line if she is still standing.

[1d20] = 3 : [1d6] = 4 : [1d20-1] = 20-1 = 19 : [1d6] = 5 Oo does a natural twenty crit even with a penalty to hit?

As Jinx seems to be doing smashingly well without his help, may I redirect Keyon to carrying one of the held party members farther from the water? If so, and if any checks or such need to be made, just let me know. :D

The Hunt
Starday, 20th of Goodmonth
Midday, Hot, Humid, Sunny


Keyon comes to his senses and rushes towards the danger this time instead.

Jinx tries hacking away at the flapping monster with her hand ax. Before she can connect, she is bitten again by the larger ray, and this time the horrible wound nearly kills her. 6 dam

The Knife starts to freak out, as if he was suddenly possessed by something terrible. He staggers and shouts a few stuttered syllables towards the battle before crashing to his knees and eventually falling to the sand.

As Keyon approaches the beleaguered hafling, now drowning in the shallows with the rays accosting her, he spots something very strange. The stationary forms of Brandy, Feanol, and Elnaerel all suddenly draw their weapons and walk towards the action. Unsure how this is possible, but glad for the aid all the same, the graceful elf dives into the water as his friends advance, swimming the short distance out to the drowning halfling and grabbing her by one limp arm.

The advancing foursome is enough to startle the second large ray into staying right where it is, and it also stops any more from advancing too close. However, the one with Jinx in its mouth is content to play a game of tug-of-war with the elf, still vying for its delicious prize while it can.

Actions?

Can't blame you. :lol:

"Oh, no you don't," the elf growls as he scissor-kicks hard and strikes out toward the beach, straining to break the ray's hold on Jinx. As he turns to catch sight of his companions, a shudder ripples down Keyon's spine. There's something odd about their gait, but he hasn't time to work it out. He does his utmost to pull Jinx free and support her small form as he swims/wades toward the stretch of beach where the Knife lies prone. (a few squares northwest of their current position near the treeline and out of the trio's line of approach). His face is flushed red and every muscle stands taut and strains to the breaking point.

Im sorry.

The 3 held ladies on the beach also see themselves drawing their weapons and walking towards the water.

Which is impossible because they still remain right where they are, unable to move, and held in place by some evil magic fish curse.

Keyon splashes through the shallow water as fast as he can, attempting to save poor Jinx from certain death at the teeth of these aggressive monsters. The three held ladies on the beach still cant move at all, but they watch as their visages continue to move towards the rays at the edge of the water, attempting to scare them away if they can.

The large ray that isn't engaged with the combat starts to slowly swim towards the stationary trio on the beach. As fast as these creatures move in the water, they can barely even crawl once they reach the soft sand. Unlikely to survive long outside of its element, the slimy creature slowly flops its way onto the sand all the same. The Knife pops his head up just long enough to notice the single advancing ray.

Keyon fends off an attack from the ray currently dragging Jinx out to sea. He tries to pull the halfling back into shore, but only makes it a few feet away from the sleeping rays during his watery tug of war when he notices the flopping fish plop onto the sand heading for his three new female friends. Just then a bright light suddenly appears directly in the eyes of the elven thief, causing his vision to be seriously hampered. He knows that Jinx will likely die if he lets her go now, but he doesn't want his other friends to be dragged into the water either. The halfling is bleeding badly, her chances for survival looking worse with every yank on her tiny frame. One more heavy push through the churning water and the shifting sand at his feet should get them both to shore, but not if the agressive ray kills him first.

Keyon feels sand beneath his feet and digs in hard, crying out as the world explodes with bright light. He growls with sheer frustration and gives a herculean pull, wincing inwardly at the strain he must be putting on poor Jinx's frame. But if he lets go...

"I swear--if I make it out of this alive I'm coming back here and hunting every one of you bastards to extinction," he roars in an uncharacteristic display of temper. If they break loose and make it to dry land, he will gather Jinx into his arms and stagger blindly ahead in the same direction as before to put distance between them and the water.

I reckon one or both of us is going to die, but got to try!

Continues her struggle against the magic hold. She also watches the events unfold so when she can move again she can react quickly.

The Knife

Knife [1d20] = 16

The Knife suddenly leaps to his feet and looks at the scene in front of him. "Wha...? he drawls momentarily, then plunges into the action. Seeing Keyeon helping Jinx, The Knife races towards the frozen party members as fast as he can.

Since Elnaerel seems to be the one in most jeopardy, The Knife runs up to her and tries to drag her away from the ray before it can get get there. "Get away! Get away!", he shouts, trying to scuff sand onto it's face and eyes as he goes by.

The visages of the three females moving into the water with their weapons drawn suddenly vanishes.

The large ray lets go of Jinx again, trying to bite at the nimble elf attempting to steal its fresh meal. Somehow, Keyon dodges a second attack, a bite that would likely have been his demise. The failed attack gives the elf enough time to drag Jinx's soggy and bloodied body to the shoreline. He is perused buy the ray, but its movement in the shallow water is slowed considerably. The elf is saddened to see that his valiant efforts were alas, too late, as the halfling lets out her dying breath and bleeds out right there in his arms on the wet sand. The ray exits the water, just like his friend trying to eat Elnaerel. The sight of the ray slowly flapping right out of the water is disturbing, especially when the thief looks into its nasty teeth filled sucker mouth.

The Knife sees the first ray exit the water, so he jumps to his feet to grab the prone elf just before she can be bitten next. He kicks some sand at it before he drags her away from the struggling ray, who instead of following, flops towards Feanol next. The creatures move painfully slow once on the sand, their aggressive behavior giving away their apparent desperate need for food.

Two small rays move in towards their sleeping brethren, apparently attempting to rouse them again. The three magically held females in the group still cant move, their fate resting directly in the hands of Keyon and TK.

The Knife

The Knife grabs Feanol next, hauling her back about twenty feet or so before returning to drag Brandy a similar distance. He tries to keep his small frame hidden as much as possible by these (demi-)human shields. If they have anything else to throw, no point in being an easy target, he rationalizes. Sorry ladies.

The elf knows a moment of triumph as he breaks free with Jinx, and he staggers a few feet before sinking to his knees and depositing her small form on the sand. She isn't breathing, he realizes with a start.

He looks up as the Knife cries out, dashing sand into the eyes of a crawling ray and grabbing Elnaerel. Keyon rises quickly, shooting a glance at Jinx's still form. "I'm sorry, little one," he says before bolting toward the others, keeping his distance from the ray as he does so. He assists in carrying their companions as far as possible from danger, then stands between them and the giant ray with a weary, dogged determination written on his face.

"I've lived through worse than you today," Keyon says, panting for breath as he closes a hand around the hilt of his sword.

He sends a silent prayer to the weavers of fate, asking them to spin a strong thread for him this day. And if it must be cut, to let him tumble into the void with style.

Man this goes a lot faster with only 2 active players.

Keyon feels terrible for the halfling, but knows what he must do next. The elf leaps towards the others, helping The Knife drag the immobile party members away from danger. Their quick thinking saves their lives as the first ray quickly realizes his chase is futile, so it turns and starts back for the water again.

The second ray continues flopping towards Jinx, not willing to give up on the fresh meat yet. It bites into her and begins dragging it back towards the sea, the extra load making it even slower in the sand.

Two of the sleeping rays are roused by their kin, leaving only 2 of them asleep in the water.

"Knife!" He gestures toward the net. "Help me with this." He grabs the net and stretches it out, waiting for his comrade to grab the other side. "Let's cast it over that bastard. I'm half-blinded by these beasts, so help me guide it over the one dragging Jinx. If we can tangle it up in the two of them, we can drag them up and away from the water."

If the Knife cooperates, Keyon will proceed to cast the wet, heavy net across the ray and over the body of Jinx. "I want this hungry bastard to pay."
