Probably the wrong thread:
Lord Commander Bremen walks the town in search of dwarfs, preferably minstrels. Once he glfinds a likely crew he offers to hire them to accompany him to Idmi D'dum. He explains that he wants to show respect to the Blackhelms and their fallen kinsman, whose body was devoured by the dragon, Scatha. We want his kin to know we're properly sorry about his death, and to have returned without his body, but the dragon wasn't keen on our preferences. And that, in proper respect for dwarf laws and traditions, we're returning his family's shield, a mess of other heirlooms, and his rightful share of the treasure. And we killed the dragon, so no more dwarfs need face that same fate.

If there's some tradition of a warrior being sung home, we'd like that. Singing about how it took a mess of goblins to kill him as he was protecting his brothers-in-arms, and how his death let the rest of us set up an ambush for the dragon.

Some grimy mercenary dwarves come forward. "We ain't much, but we'll be pall bearers for his memory."

Bremen gives the handful of dwarfs and appraising eye and agrees, offering a handshake. What's your fee, master dwarf? Do you have any special needs to do this, or are you equipped?

Same as I said in PM. Treat it as part of a Memorial Tribute. It is less about what they 'charge' and more about how much honor you wish to give via coin.

Previous message stricken. Here is the edit, and 250gp deducted.

Bremen gives the handful of dwarfs and appraising eye and agrees, offering a handshake. Here is 250 pieces of gold, master dwarf. I hope that is sufficient to make the proper preparations. He offers them a sack with the correct amount of gold.

The dwarf bows humbly and low. "We shall ensure he is duly honored, sir, and remembered by our children's children's children."

Fingers McGraw approaches Zirina.

"Hi. I'm leading a group out to explore a wizard's tower in an ancient city full of treasures. We could sure use your blades, if you're willing to join us. And, uh, bring someone else along if you want. Or, y'know, send them instead, if you think they're anywhere near as badass as you are. Doesn't seem that's likely, though. Standard deal, of course. Full share of treasure for you. Should be a good haul, I'd expect."

Recruitment attempt: Zirina + one random-level unnamed NPC.

Recruit Zirina: [2d6+1] = 3+1 = 4 Success!
Recruit Unnamed: [2d6+1] = 11+1 = 12 Failure!

Just Zirina, then.
