[Completed] - Rhodri/GoldFinger - 5 April, 1 VC
Re: Expedition - Rhodri/GoldFinger - 5 April, 1 VC
Rhodri growls a curse, then says, "Enough of this!" Taking a step back, he flourishes his free hand, fingers twining in the intricate gestures of spellcasting even as he mutters arcane syllables.
Sleep spell: [2d8] = 11
Let's hope we win initiative! I just don't want somebody to get dropped below 0 before we even reach our goal.
Re: marching order; all right then, 2 abreast it is.
Shorties up front
Lug and Nailla center
Elves in the rear
We're like a mullet...business in the front, party in the back.

Round Two Summary:
Enemy Initiative [1d6] = 6
The dire wolf, intent on fighting to the bitter end, makes yet another vicious attack against Numen, attempting to break out of the circle of death in which it finds itself. Unfortunately, Mammon's efforts to get in under the wolf's defenses keep the creature off-guard enough that its powerful attack is unable to connect.
DW vs. Numen [1d20] = 4, damage [2d4] = 8
Rhodri hurls the force of his magic against the wolf, but it seems unfazed by the effort, perhaps because it has grown used to the influence of such powers and has learned to resist them.
Enemy saving throw [1d20] = 18
Orrin steps in dangerously close to make a swipe at the wolf with his hand axe, but the creature is ready. Ducking in under the dwarf's magic shield, the wolf's jaws prepare to close on the exposed leg, when Mammon bounds forcefully straight into Orrin's back, sending him tumbling head over heels in a somersault over the wolf, landing once again on his feet but with his hand axe no longer in his hand.
Of the remaining attackers, only Lug manages to connect, chopping a several inches off the wolf's tail.
Wolf: 11 HP

Naila stays out of the way keeping her dagger at the ready, while staying away from the wolf.

Kennit attacks, but is once again unable to connect, perhaps distracted by the first and only dwarf gymnast he has ever seen.

Orrin sneers grumpily.
"I will admit to having allowed myself to be tossed before, but never by a dog!"
He unloops a second handaxe from his belt and wades back into the fray.
"Good thing I brought a spare!"
{Hand Axe} Attack: [1d20 +1] = 12+1 = 13, Damage: [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7

Numen roars ferociously at the remaining foe, stabbing madly at it with his longsword...

Longsword attack: [1d20+1] = 14+1 = 15
Longsword damage: [1d8] = 6

Don't forget to include your strength modifier to damage as well in your combat macro!

Updated my macro!
Re: Expedition - Rhodri/GoldFinger - 5 April, 1 VC
Rhodri's lips tighten to an almost invisible line as his spell fails, and then he darts in once more, driving his longsword before him toward the wolf.
Attack with sword: [1d20] = 16, damage: [1d8] = 6
Initiative: [1d6] = 1
I think we've got this critter's number; I just hope it doesn't have a chance to kill anyone due to that lousy initiative roll.

Re: Expedition - Rhodri/GoldFinger - 5 April, 1 VC
I rolled a 4 for Initiative earlier~so I hope we'll be fine! Er, let's use that one please hehe
Re: Expedition - Rhodri/GoldFinger - 5 April, 1 VC
If the expedition leader rolls initiative, I will always use that one: otherwise, I will use the first initiative roll from the team.
Re: Expedition - Rhodri/GoldFinger - 5 April, 1 VC
Sonofa...I could have sworn I scanned everybody's combat posts and didn't see an initiative roll, that's the only reason I did it.

Re: Expedition - Rhodri/GoldFinger - 5 April, 1 VC
Hmm...if the initiative rules can work against us by the leader's bad roll trumping a better roll, I am sure we can make this work to our advantage by having the leader wait and see what's rolled by the party before deciding whether or not they think they could beat that roll.
Re: Expedition - Rhodri/GoldFinger - 5 April, 1 VC
I knew the minute a situation like this came up, someone would find that loophole immediately.
You are correct, with the caveat being that you're stuck with he leader's roll even if it's lower

Re: Expedition - Rhodri/GoldFinger - 5 April, 1 VC
So that means (1) the leader should post last, or at least after someone else has rolled initiative, and (2) the leader should pay attention to who has rolled initiative.

I think that's a risk we're willing to take!Keehnelf wrote:You are correct, with the caveat being that you're stuck with he leader's roll even if it's lower

Round Three Summary:
Enemy Initiative [1d6] = 2
The beast finally gets its jaws into Numen and takes him to ground while Mammon is busy recovering from protecting Orrin. The elf is left bleeding profusely from multiple savage bit wounds on his leg and will likely die if not tended immediately.
DW vs Numen [1d20] = 19, damage [2d4] = 5
Mammon's counter attack misses and the rest of the party apart from Rhodri are unable to make contact with the beast, so though injured it continues to fight on!
Wolf: 5 HP
Actions and initiative!

Goddammit!
Seeing Numen fall, Rhodri redoubles his efforts to slay the wolf, silent and grim-faced.
Attack with sword: [1d20] = 13, damage: [1d8] = 1
