Quirin will immediately cast Sleep, observe the results and then A. if they all nodded off, run out and coup de grace all of them or B. Raise the alarm (i.e. yell for the others to wake) and fire off an arrow on the closest awake target.Keehnelf wrote:March 30, 1 VC - 3:20am
The night is far along when Quirin is on watch and catches the sound of hoarse conversation drifting across the moor. He looks over a nearby rise and is surprised to see three wolves with goblin riders only a hundred feet or so from the camp. The rearmost wolf has two goblins riding together--the rearmost hops off and begins preparing a bow while the others wheel toward the camp.

Every goblin and all but one of the wolves fails its save, slumping to the ground. The lone remaining wolf noses at its rider, now lying on the ground, attempting to determine if it is dead or merely resting.

Fellows! Quirin bellows. Up and to arms! We are beset by goblins!
Quirin will nock an arrow and fire at the wolf.

OK, everyone will be waking up for the round after you fire the arrow, and able to act the round after that.
The arrow strikes the wolf and it makes to attack Quirin!
Initiative and action for the round in which the party is waking up!
Wolf HP: 9

Initiative vs wolf round 1 [1d6] = 6
Quirin will presume the wolf will close to melee attack range quickly so he'll drop his bow and equip his shield and the Elven dagger. With only 2 HP, he's gonna need the AC help.
Elven dagger vs wolf [1d20+1] = 4+1 = 5, dmg [1d4+1] = 4+1 = 5

Round One Summary:
Enemy Initiative [1d6] = 5
Quirin manages to get himself properly equipped before the wolf arrives, but his dagger's design is ill-suited to an enemy more agile than him and without a proper weapon. Thankfully, his shield is able to keep the wolf off him while his companions rouse themselves to action.
Wolf vs. Quirin [1d20] = 5, damage [1d6] = 4
Actions and initiative--everybody to arms!

EDIT: Initiative vs wolf round 2 [1d6] = 1
Quirin redoubles his efforts to kill this wolf quickly.
We need to finish it before the others wake up! I'll explain later.
Adjusted my to-hit and damage bonuses since it was previously revealed that the dagger was +1, not that it mattered.
Elven dagger vs wolf, rd 2 [1d20+2] = 4+2 = 6, dmg [1d4+2] = 2+2 = 4

Bertram is awakened by the sounds of bellowing elves and the clash of battle. He instinctively grabs for his longsword and rushes to Quirin's aid.

Numen rises, and as if possessed, heads straight for the wolf with an eerie grimace on his face, attacking with his longsword!

Round 2 Summary:
Enemy Initiative [1d6] = 2
The wolf, not realizing that it is out of its depth in taking the attack to Quirin, continues to assault him while the remainder of the party closes in. Once again, however, he manages to keep his shield between himself and the monster, allowing his companions a chance to attack.
Wolf vs. Quirin [1d20] = 4, damage [1d6] = 6
Of the other party members, only Bertram manages to connect with his attack, significantly injuring the creature.
Wolf: 5 HP

I think we should wait for Rhodri. Spartakos usually doesn't post until late at night, I don't think it's fair to skip his turn.
Re: Expedition: Bertram/Eastward - 21 March, 1 VC
Very sorry, all; I can check the boards on my phone, but not use the dice roller. I don't usually get off work and get home until around 4:00 - 4:30 Alaska time (8:00 - 8:30 EST).
Rhodri, awakened out of a light sleep, rolls over and gropes for his weapons. He dithers briefly between the bow and the sword, but on seeing the wolf rapidly closing with Quirin, decides he can't risk a shot. Yanking his sword free of its scabbard, he leaps up and aims an awkward slash at the beast.
[1d20] = 3 attack roll with sword
(that's a clean miss, not gonna bother rolling for damage...but I'm going to actually go read those instructions on how to do multiple rolls at once.)
I'll get a jump on next round, though!
Initiative: [1d6] = 1
Attack roll with sword: [1d20] = 5, damage: [1d8] = 3
Too bad my luck completely sucks.
