With a wild laugh Ranulf adds his sword to the fray. He'll either target Guran or the spider, depending on where there is room to attack.

Round 3

Torgyr tags the giant spider with a crossbow bolt (2 damage)

Solaine advances, but is unable to get past Guran. She swings her voulge at the evil dwarf, and misses.

One of the remaining kobolds advances and attacks Quinn, but the strong blow is deflected by one of his armor plates (the armor protected him as chain would not have... Quinn's AC with this armor and shield is at least 6). The other kobold advances and attacks the dwarf in the south end of the room, without success. Ranulf slashes hard across Guran's arm (4 damage). Emm misses her spear attack.

The spider attacks one of the remaining dwarves, but its bite isn't able to penetrate his chainmail. The dwarf misses a counterattack on the spider, while the other dwarf attacks his kobold opponent, hitting (1 damage).

Quinn misses his attack on Guran. Randolpho drops his lanterns and moves around the corner into the darkness, hoping to avoid detection. Galen releases Ajax to Torgyr. Ajax moves up to Torgyr's side.

Guran brings his huge warhammer down on Quinn, and this time it connects with a bone-crunching efficiency (9 damage!). Quinn drops like a rock. Guran turns to Ranulf, who he sees as a greater threat, but his second swing goes wide.

Guran begins to retreat between the kobold and the spider. You'll still be able to attack him if you get initiative, but you'll need to follow toward the spider to attack him if you don't.

To the east, down the corridor, Randolpho and company hear the sound of several people gearing up for battle.

Quinn is down, and has taken 1 more hp of damage than his hp. He is not dead, but in a limbo state until he is checked on. His chances of survival are reasonably good, but he could end up maimed or otherwise seriously wounded. He's not likely to be able to continue fighting in this sortie, at least, so would you like to take over one of the npcs for a bit? Maybe Emm there, on the front line with the spear?

Solaine will use her Voulge to attack Guran, or the spider if Guran retreats.

Torgyr leaps forward when he sees Quinn fall, and if there is room to squeeze between Emm and the wall, he will try and grab Quinn's shoulders and drag him back to where Galen can stabilize him.

If it's obvious that he can't get through he'll take another pot shot at the spider.

Torgyr can do this, though all signs point to the reinforcements coming at any moment. from the other direction... you can prepare an attack to "trigger" when they come out, if you want. if you move to save Quinn, Quinn (and Galen) will be clearly behind Solaine. If you don't, Galen would be at some risk from the kobold near that spot, at least, while he's working (the kobold might go for Solaine, or it might go for Galen).

Quinn, Galen will attempt to revive you in the next round. If you would like to roll for it, give me a 1d20+7 (that's +1 for healing magic, +2 for Galen's healing skill, +2 for being within 1 round, and +2 for Galen's constitution), and a 1d6 (for location of the injury).

Ah, ok. If it's obvious that attack is imminent from the rear then Torgyr would stay and hold them off, allowing Galen to move through to stabilize Quinn. Torgyr will throw flaming oil as soon as he sees the kobolds advancing, to soften them up before they get to Audi and Zim.

Let one or two get in before flame so I have a chance to backstab and return to the lines first? Or is it better to just trap them?

Perhaps a shot at backstab is a good idea, I imagine they will advance in numbers, so Torgyr would throw oil towards the centre rear of the kobolds to get as much benefit of the oil as possible. He wouldn't throw near Randolpho's position anyway, so I think that would leave him open for a BS and then try to get back to the line in the confusion. I think? :lol:

Round 4

Emm, Solaine and Ranulf gang up on Guran, but only Ranulf's blow (3 damage) connects. Guran counterattacks at Ranulf, but misses, then he retreats.

The spider and one of the remaining dwarves continue to fight, without much motion on either side, but the other dwarf kills his opponent, one of the last kobolds, with a mighty blow (7 damage), and moves in to help his friend fight the spider.

Galen moves to aid Quinn, and is able to stabilize him, but Quinn remains unconscious. His knee has been seriously damaged, and he is critically wounded. Quinn will need to be healed to 1 hp with a day, or he will die. Even if he is healed, he will need a full week's bedrest. His carrying capacity is reduced by 6 stone, and he cannot force march.

The other kobold attacks Solaine, unsuccessfully, ignoring Galen.

In the east, a swarm of kobolds comes out of the cave to the east, but they do something perhaps unexpected. The two in the front pour oil on the ground, creating a fire barrier between you and them, and those behind shoot at you. One lands a solid hit on Randolpho (5 damage) who was apparently not all that well hidden. Torgyr's flaming oil splashes among the kobolds, and several take damage, but he sees only one go down.

Randolpho will scamper over to the line and get behind everyone. If possible he will fire a sling stone at the kobold that hit him.

Torgyr lobs another flask of oil across the barrier into the crowd of kobolds, yelling at Ranulf and Solaine as he throws.

"We've got company back here! Finish that bastard off so we can fall back if we need to!"

Solaine pauses a brief moment, unsure of what she's hearing. She spares a glance at Quinn, then thinks, Mavors decides who lives and dies here. She continues swinging her Voulge at the spider.

Round 5

Torgyr throws another flask of oil. but it falls short, splashing in the fire.

The spider and the dwarves are locked in combat. The spider bites into the leg of one dwarf, but its fangs are stopped by the dwarf's armor. One of the dwarves slams it hard (7 damage) but it keeps moving.

Solaine tries to get past the kobold, but it blocks her path. She swings at the kobold, but though she swings wide, she does provide cover for Galen to pull the unconscious Quinn out of the front line.

Freaked out by Torgyr's firebombs, the kobolds scatter. A bunch (maybe 8-10?) go south, and the rest retreat back to the east.

Solaine's opponent attacks her, but misses.

Ranulf tries to force his way to Guran, but the spider blocks his way. He brings his sword down hard on the spider (5 damage) killing it. He then steps over it, and attacks Guran, hitting him solidly (5 damage). Guran swings his mighty warhammer at Ranulf. The blow is clearly strong enough to cave in Ranulf's chest, but it clangs off Ranulf's plate armor, denting it. The armor holds, but if Guran can find a weak spot in Ranulf's defenses, he is not sure that he can withstand the blow.

Guran calls out "Mother, fill me with your strength!"

Randolpho hears a feminine voice inside his head:
Join us, and I will give you what you want... the power of concealment you seek, and a real sting to go with it!

Round 6

Guran shudders, and a force passes into him. He seems to grow in stature and fury. Ranulf prepares for the blow is able to dodge it, but his own counterattack fails to connect. Taking advantage of Guran's distraction, one of the dwarves steps over the body of the spider and skewers him (7 damage).

The kobold fighting Solaine catches her with a glancing blow (1 damage) leaving a trail of blood on her arm. Solaine counterattacks, but the ungainly voulge is out of position. Emm is able to hit it, but it shows no sign of slowing down (2 damage). One of the dwarves, freed from his combat with the spider, steps forward and dispatches the kobold (6 damage).

Your immediate opposition is dispatched! Quinn is unconscious, and needs at least 2 points of healing within the next day to live (and wake up). There are also 3 downed dwarves, including their leader, Torgan. On the enemies side, there are 8 dead kobolds, Guran, and the giant crab spider.

Galen would like to see to the dwarves, and asks Solaine if she would pray over the fallen warriors (ie, do you want to use your spell (and how... either to help Torgan or Quinn), or save it?).

The fires cutting off the east caverns should burn for a few more minutes, conveniently about the amount of time it will take to deal with things here, if you are relatively quick about it.

He hefts a flask of oil, firelight reflecting off the glass.

"We have enough firepower among us to put these dogs down. Once that's done, we can take stock of ourselves."

Torgyr asks the remaining dwarves to join the defensive line. If either of them needs it, he will loan them his crossbow, as he plans to throw oil once the kobolds show themselves.

So, on guard is Torgyr, Emm, Audi, Zim, Randolpho, Ranulf and two dwarves? Leaving Solaine and Galen protected in the west to see to the wounded?

That's fine, unless you want to try to loot the bodies/room... there are some chests, and several bodies to look through.
