I was curious how Ethan could know what equipment Fulp was carrying? I checked, and Fulp does not have any rope listed in his equipment on his character sheet, but then I did find this:
A clerical error, I'm guessing.

Yeah, it was in the description onlyme provided. That's all we have to go off of. Maybe that's just his belt. Is he a monk???

His description was made the night before he left home to start his adventure. At that time he had a coil of rope, apparently. He then apparently forgot it when he was grabbing his things. (possibly to conserve money and/or weight.)

I need to check my excel pc build file to see what I purchased with my starting gp.

But since I didnt list it I cant assume that it just magically shows up, even if I had meant for it to be there.

Updated the Local Geography thread with some information on Belhaim, including a map. Note the location of the fallen tower (far east) in reference to the town itself.

OGRE MAGE wrote:Sparrow has rope skills so I was thinking that he could rig up his 50' rope with it doubled up around the beam. That way he could just untie it at the bottom and pull it down with us.

Does he need to roll for that or wouldn't that be considered a "rope skill"?
I'll almost certainly allow it if I can understand it, but I'm having a hard time envisioning what you're planning here.

How does Sparrow plan on fastening a rope to something on the second level that will be taught enough to support everyone's weights (individually) and be able to be released from below?

I think I see what he's proposing. Basically, it's a rappel. Divide the rope into two equal coils, one on either side of the beam. You can then slide down the rope. The other will come up and over the beam. Unfortunately, the beam will need to be propped off the ground, which may not be easy to secure.

Another approach would be to drive a couple iron spikes into the floor such that they are at a 45 degree angle. You can then thread the rope around them and it should be easy to pull one end once everyone's down and have the rope and be down on the first floor.

What is the total distance we need to descend?

He could use the 50' of rope and double it up. Wrap the very middle around the beam and tie it together at the end. Essentially making a double stranded rope 25' long (minus the part that's wrapped around the beam: probably 3-5 feet?)

Then when the last person is down, he unites the ends of the rope and pulls one side of the doubled rope down with him. It's not tied at the top, just wrapped around the beam.

If the distance is further than the 23' of the doubled rope, is there another spot to do the same thing from the first level into the basement?

I think I see how the rope will be used, and since it's really not a huge detail, let's just assume the plan will definitely work to get the party down from level two to level one.

You can't know if the same rope in its current setup will be long enough to also reach the basement until you're able to determine how far down it is. ;)

We have to worry about getting back up if we can't get the rubble out of the way of the door. So maybe we should cut the rope in half and leave it? I'll hold off on Sylvan mentioning this to the party until everyone's on the first floor.

I almost said something along these lines, but figured I'd wait to see if anyone else did on their own.

Good thinking.

P.S. Nice illustration regarding your plans to use the rope.

btw- I did confirm that Fulp did not end up with a coil of rope. he ran out of gp in PC build, but after the description was written, sorry about the confusion.

I'm itching to resolve this:
Alethan wrote:Then he grabs the ring in the middle of the trap door and pulls it open.
But, we almost need to resolve the rope situation first.

Are you going to retrieve the rope from the second level once everyone's on the main level, or leave the rope attached at the second level so you can use it again if/when you need to get back out?

Please resolve in character.

Fulp will volunteer to go 3rd.
I don't know the smartest order, and I will be AFK through tomorrow, so I arbitrarily picked a spot...

How does it appear others traversed this place? There are no ladders, wrungs, rings to tie the rope to, steps, any means of egress at all by the former inhabitants?

As the light shines into the hole, is there any sign of movement from below, any sounds of scurrying or such like?

The questions below were not asked in character, so they belong here in the ooc thread.
Storm11 wrote:How does it appear others traversed this place? There are no ladders --
There were ladders, but were loose (not fastened or secured down) and are now part of the debris discovered in the room as a result of the collapse.
Storm11 wrote:As the light shines into the hole, is there any sign of movement from below, any sounds of scurrying or such like?
Next time, please try to ask these types of questions in-character (e.g. Kassal peers into the opening once the light shines in and strains to see any signs of movement as his eyes adjust...).

But, no, he doesn't see our hear anything.

onlyme, is it possible you did something to piss off the dice roller? Talk badly about it? Impure thoughts? Not sacrifice enough chickens?

Cause that was the crappiest bunch of rolls by an entire party I've seen since Dave and I were in Omega's TOEE game and most of the party died before we even got into the courtyard at the moat house.

Apparently I did.
I almost rolled an attack roll just to see what I'd get, hoping to at least shake the dust off the high numbers.
