Taking a second look at the trapdoor which is now open, the elf tries to find some form to close it securely, in case they want to step on it to try and open the door.

"Lets make sure that trap door doesn't open down under someones weight."

“I wish I remembered how I got down that pit,” grumbled Gromp. “I don’t appear hurt from falling. Maybe there’s a secret door down there? I’ll check quick.”

Gromp finds no secret door.

But, thanks to his dwarven skill with structures and buildings, he notes the trap doors are spring-loaded. Any pressure from atop the doors might force them open, and they will eventually shut on their own.

"Lia," the softspoken cleric says when introductions are made to the rather unsavory dwarf. For now, she merely watches as they search around the trap for another exit. She had little knowledge of such things, in fact little knowledge of many things, so she thought it best to leave it to those more experienced with such things.

Here's a lot of detail...

The pit is 10' by 10' by 10' deep. The trapdoor at its top is made of 2 perfectly fitted 10' by 5' doors. The trapdoors would smack a tall person in the head if they are standing under them when they open.

At the hinges at the top, Gromp can see the spring mechanism. The doors can be disabled at the hinge or by fixing them in p!ace somehow (whether open or closed).

Lia, Lia, ah that is a nice name lass.” Gromp said without gruffness.

No secret door down there” the dwarf replied to Myrrh. “The trapdoor can be fixed shut if anyone has an iron spike? Otherwise don’t step on it.”

Shall we go down the stairs to the east?”

Brondulm

I am not sure we should leave this floor without completing a search. I would hate for someone or thing to cut us off if we need to retreat. I think we should check what is on the other side of the door.

He carefully goes to listen at the door with wax filled ears:

and check for traps:

Brondulm carefully slips over the open pit to the alcove to examine the door. He carefully listens for noise behind it, but hears nothing. He then scans the door looking for traps and finds none.

But after scrutinizing the door for traps, Brondulm notices something odd -- there seem to be a series of bolts all along the edge of the door.

It looks like this door is bolted on this side like no one wants whatever is on the other side to get in here. Our wayward tourists certainly didn't go this way unless they knew some way of bolting the door behind them. I guess we should venture down the stairs.

"Hey, maybe Sleepy, the big tough dwarf, should try opening that stuck door in the last room!" Vali snarks.

"Not a bad idea Vali. Gromp, would you mind trying to open the door over here?" He points the door no one could get open to Gromp.

Lia the wallflower watched the door being dealt knowing she hadn't the strength to deal with it. She was surprised Brondulm had been unsuccessful in his attempt, as he seemed quite competent in such things. She said a soft prayer to the lady, hoping this obstacle would soon be removed.

Grump grunted and moved to the obdurate door.

‘“This was checked for traps, right?”

Assuming safe… Gromp gave a little charge and slammed his plated shoulder into the door.

The herculean Gromp pushes open the stuck door!

The west-facing door opens inward to the left into a 10' by 10' entryway that leads to a Larger room 20' longer to the west and 20' north.

At the far end of the room is the body of a halfling lying face down, weapons next to him. A few feet away, in the northwest corner of the room are a pile of bones topped by two human skulls. Cobwebs cover the walls and ceiling.

"It looks like we found whoever made the halfling prints."

Myrrh will move into the room and check out the bones, "I have a bad feeling about this." He has his holy symbol ready in case he needs to turn a skeleton or zombie halfling.

The elf draws his sword, and stands at the ready.
Faron moves up to the door into the room, sniffing from afar.

Myrrh's instincts serve him well. As he enters the room, the bones in the corner of the room begin to rattle and rise! The skulls settle upon the forms of 2 skeletons!

The skeletons wield rusty swords hidden under their bones. They move to attack!
