"Shadows Over..." - The Investigations of Josephine & Gordon

"Mr. Sharpe, you must have heard me practicing my next sermon. Sometimes the spirit moves me to take different voices."

"Amen to that!

"The church dinner sounds like a perfect introduction," he says enthusiastically, "I, we would be delighted."

Josephine Clark, who had been silently taking it all in, finally seems ready to start again.

Gordon Pym "Well the whole pamphlet it's self is rather interesting it inspired us to come to you good Reverend."

[Grognardsw]

"Good, good," says the Reverend of the investigators coming for dinner. "We can break fin together and plumb the glorious depths of St. Joad's shoaliness. Now why don't you all swim by around 6:00 pm. In the meantime, please enjoy the town. We have much fishtory and relaxing beaches."

Reverend Hillman smiles again.



"I have some business to attend to now. Let me walk you out."

"Why thank you, Reverend," says Eddie, "thank you very much. We look forward to our fish supper!" He hesitates to allow Gordon or Josephine a word.

Gordon Pym nods "Very well thank you good reverend. I like how you add a fishing twist to your words."

Josephine Clark smiles a bit and nods her head "I am looking forward to it. I have a feeling this is going to be the best dinner yet for your congregation"

Gordon, Josephine and Eddie leave the church. They have about four hours to kill before the church dinner.

Outside the church.

"I'd like to explore--get a feel for the place." Eddie wrinkles-up his nose: God! This hole stinks of fish."

Gordon Pym "Of course lets take a drive perhaps? Fish well what do you expect of a place like this that is about all they have."

Josephine Clark takes out a bottle of perfume from her handbag and spritzes the air before her "Dreadful smell. The sooner we finish here, the sooner we leave."

The investigators drive around taking in the sights of the depressing town.



It has seen better days.

"Let's wander around, see if we meet anyone interesting."

He will head along the wharf.

The investigators see a crowd gathering.

Gordon Pym parks the car "Lets see what the interest is to gather such a crowd."

[Grognardsw]

Gordon pulls his Model T over. He, Eddie and Josephine get out and approach the gathering crowd. They see a dead body that appears to have been pulled up from the harbor. His skin is blue from cold, the eyes plucked out by fish, the extremities have been gnawed on too by fish. The neck has horrible gashes, deep enough to expose the spine.

As they approach, the investigators catch smatterings of mutterings among the crowd -
"- well that's what happens -"
" - in from Misery -"
" - Elsabeth said -"
" - better get Job -"

- that quickly quell as the investigators approach. The townsfolk all turn to look at the strangers.

There is an awkward silence.

"How awful!" says Eddie. "We've just come from the church," he speaks to one of the crowd, "shall we return and fetch Rev.d Hillman?--you know, last rites, that sort of thing?"

Josephine Clark runs over to see what all the hubbub is about, only to see the remains of a dead body. She lets out a light gasp and covers her mouth. She takes a few steps back.

Gordon Pym "Yes should we go get the good Reverend or is there another local authority we should go fetch?"
