What time is it?
What time is it?
Since we're all in many different places it'd be totally sweet to see a person local time right under their avatar, so you have some rough idea of whether they're likely to be awake, at work, whatever.
Re: What time is it?
We do have the option to display or not display location. Offering something similar for time zone would be a good idea - it should be the Member's decision.
I just don't know if it is built into the forum software and how easy it might be to add it if not. That's something ToniXX will have to look into.
Of course, an alternative solution would be to use your Location field to post your time zone instead of a physical location (or a farce location, in some instances). In fact, that's what I'll do for the time being.
Great suggestion, Matt!

Re: What time is it?
Well we could all just change out location to Timezone i know that won't provide universal user information or anything just information about those of us willing to do that.

Re: What time is it?
In the same way that I added 'real name' I could also add time zone. We could keep it separate from location. Unfortunately it would be optional and members would have to make the choice of filling in the proper value. Note that for most of us it would have to be changed twice a year for daylight savings.

Re: What time is it?
Hrm, yeah timezone's generally useful locally (like inside the US), but be honest, how long does it take for you to tell me what time it is here if I say my timezone is CET? I understand if it's not possible to calculate the actual time, and I guess timezone's the only feasible compromise, but...
Re: What time is it?
If I knew PHP better than I do, AND each user entered their proper time zone in their profile, I could feasibly write a modification that shows a users current time under their profile info at the left of each post. There might be a mod that does this already, but a quick search did not reveal it.

Re: What time is it?
I think either adding a Time Zone field or having people update their Location with their Time Zone would be useful, especially if it indicates the difference from GMT (UTC) so one could calculate the user's time based on their own.ToniXX wrote:If I knew PHP better than I do, AND each user entered their proper time zone in their profile, I could feasibly write a modification that shows a users current time under their profile info at the left of each post. Re: What time is it?
Yup, true. It's not quite as at-a-glance as local time, but it makes it possible to at least figure it out.
Re: What time is it?
I've added a 'Time Zone' field. See mine to the left.

Re: What time is it?
GW: I see (EST) at the end of your location, but ToniXX added a field "Time zone" – if you go edit your profile, you'll see it. But it doesn't seem to show up under the avatar on the left yet.

Re: What time is it?
I had a similar issue when ToniXX added the real name field I essentially suggested so perhaps the same fix he did for me then is needed for you. Have you tried also loging out clearing the browser history and cache then re login?
You should see it like this eventually...

Re: What time is it?
Try the quick troubleshooting I posted. Then if that still does not fix it I am sure ToniXX will see this posting and reply as well as look into the issue.
