STARFALL: INTRO

#1 Post by max_vale »

For those new players and players who joined the first adventure 'mid-episode'; the old WEG first Edition Star Wars modules all had an introduction starting with "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...." a la the original trilogy; and in addition they had 'Opening Scripts' with 6 character parts that were supposed to be read by the players to start the module to clue everyone in on what's happening. They're typically a little cheesy; but fun; and while I'm not going to spell out "PC 1 is actually La'Reth; PC 2 is actually....etc., etc."; I'll include the script here so that everyone can get an understanding of the situation....with that; welcome to the start of "Starfall"!

BACKGROUND INFO:

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away....

It has been about six weeks since the Rebel band of escapees escaped the destruction of the Star Destroyer Subjugator and in that time, much has happened. The rebel band was broken up due to various factors; with Terra Shardhopper being reassigned to a Starfighter squadron; Caius recovering from serious injury in a bacta-tank and then being sent to an Alliance Safe World for recovery; Mattel being assigned on a hush-hush covert operation and Engineer Walex Blissex spending much time in research and development after much profuse thanking of the team for saving his life.

This has left the Bothan Borsk La'Reth and the one-time Imperial Scout Grey Starr as the heart of a new team of Alliance Intel Special Mission operatives; being joined by noted Pilot and former Correllian Security Officer Zinn Vallimar; one-time smuggler Gavin Storm; and archaeologist and 'relic-recovery specialist' Professor Clark Jones. After a few weeks of integration training; the team has been assigned their first mission....

It has been almost a year since the destruction of the Death Star by the Rebel Alliance and the days are once again growing dark after that bright shining victory. Using the new Nebulon-B and Lancer class Escort Frigates; the Empire has put a significant dent on all raids on cargo convoys. Without the spoils from Imperial convoys, Rebel supplies have become dangerously low. This could spell the end for the Alliance.

But all is not lost. On a remote base in the Roche Asteroid Field, Captain Ackbar and his team desperately work to complete a new Starfighter capable of being a dangerous threat to such large Capital ships; even in limited numbers. A team of brave Rebel operatives are currently approaching the asteroid field in an unmarked freighter, under orders to pick up Ackbar, his team and the Starfighter prototype and return them safely to Alliance High Command. If they fail, the struggle for freedom may indeed be over...

STRIKE FORCE SHANTIPOLE ADVENTURE SCRIPT:

1st Rebel: What's that red light mean?

2nd Rebel: It's an Alliance signal receiver. When the light starts blinking, it means we're close to the broadcasting base-homing device.

3rd Rebel: We just follow the signal to its origin. We should be docking in less than an hour.

4th Rebel: Good. The sooner we turn this holo-disk over to Captain Ackbar, the better. Playing mail carrier to Outer Rim systems isn't my idea of a glamorous assignment.

5th Rebel: I think the disk is much more important than your realize. Alliance ships and special missions personnel are too scarce to be used on frivolous missions.

6th Rebel: And we were specifically ordered to hand deliver the disk directly to Captain Ackbar.

2nd Rebel: Don't forget, I saw Mon Mothma herself back at the base-

6th Rebel: (Interrupting) -talking to our Mission Commander before the briefing. We know. You told us about a hundred times.

2nd Rebel: No really, I did! Just before they gave us the code word.

1st Rebel: What do we need a code word for, anyway?

3rd Rebel: To identify us when we reach Ackbar's base. You don't want them mistaking us for Imperials do you?

4th Rebel: What was that code word again?

5th Rebel: I believe it's pronounced 'Bantha pudu'. According to the computer lexicon, the phrase originates with the Huttese culture and means-

2nd Rebel: (Interrupting) -Not now! Plotting a course into an asteroid field isn't easy, you know!

1st Rebel: I never heard of an Alliance base located in an asteroid field before.

6th Rebel: If everyone heard about it, it wouldn't be secret now would it?

3rd Rebel: It also happens to be the home of the engineers working with Ackbar on the Top-Secret Project Shantipole.

4th Rebel: Secrets, everybody's got secrets! Any idea who these engineers are?

5th Rebel: They're called the Verpine. I understand the entire race lives within this Roche asteroid field we're flying in.

1st Rebel: Hey, what's THAT red light mean?

2nd Rebel: I told you already, that's the signal receiver.

4th Rebel: No, that's the Scanner's full-spectrum transceiver. (Checking out the readings) Uh-oh; we've got a flight of 4 TIE fighters approaching fast off the port bow. One is hanging back; the other three are closing fast!

5th Rebel: Imperials....why does it always have to be Imperials?!
