[Game #1] Sulara's and Osan's Side Thread

#1 Post by Landifarne »

Sulara lights a torch and carries in her left hand while she holds her great axe in her right. Striding across the southern wall of the entrance cave, the northern warrior steps over the rat carcasses and moves boldly down the second passage.

Moving quickly, the barbarian sees that the tunnel opes some thirty feet ahead, and that there is water where the floor should be...

Map Spoiler-
grey shaded area is water.

Sulara

Holding her torch high overhead then warrior scans the area around the water floor to ceiling...she looks for an area closer to the pool where she can secure her torch. Once the light is taken care of she moves forward axe in hand, looking for a stone she will toss it toward the water to try to see if any sound may help gauge depth.

Sulara approaches the chamber filled with water and finds a spot in the wall to jamb her torch into. Having done that, she turns back to the water and throws a few pebbles into it, disturbing its surface.

Seeeing nothing amiss, the northerner then tests the depth of the water with the butt of her great axe. Not terribly deep (at least here), the water seems to be only a foot or two deep.

Sulara

Stepping closer still to the pool Sulara probes further with her axe, peering into the darkness she attempts to see if the water covers the entire chamber wall to wall.Maybe there's a way to skirt around. She mumbles to herself.

Looking left and right, the barbarian sees that there is a small margin of dry rock ringing the edge of the cavern. It varies in width from a few inches to a foot or two and its slope looks particularly slippery in places, so the Suevi doubts that she can skirt the whole chamber that way.

Having planted her torch in the wall, she can only see out to a distance of thirty feet. If the northerner is going to go wading, she had best take it along.

Sulara

Grabbing her torch the barbarian wades slowly forward probing the bottom of the pool in front of her. Stopping after a few feet Sulara strains to see if the other side is visible as yet. Standing quietly she also listens carefully for any unusual sounds that may alert her to dangers as yet hidden from her eyes.

Initiaive: [1d10] = 1

Tie-breaking initiative rolls:
Sulara's Tie-breaker: [1d10] = 5
Creatures' Tie-breakers: [1d10] = 1

Wading into the water, the barbarian woman prods ahead with the butt end of her great axe while holding the torch in her left hand. Having moved ten feet into the murky pool, and with the water reaching just above her knees, she is suddenly surrounded by several grey-black shapes that seem to slither and worm their way through the water. Snake-like and worm-like at the same time, the hideous things raise the front halves of their bodies up, two feet out of the water. Revealing round, pucker-like maws ringed with needle sharp teeth, the giant leeches attempt to bring the warrior down (one in front and one on each flank):
Giant Leech Attacks: [1d20] = 13 [1d20] = 6 [1d20] = 19

Two of the things latch on to the fighter, biting and rasping their way into the Suevi's thigh and stomach:

Giant Leech Damage: [1d4] = 1 [1d4] = 4

Underestimating the danger of the foreign, subterranean environment, Sulara realizes after the things fail to detatch themselves from her skin that she has waded into a death pit!

Ouch. I'll give your 2-handed greataxe a -1 to hit with one hand, and -2 for damage. You can attack normally with the torch, at 1-4 damage. Or, I'll give you two attacks...at -4 with the axe and -2 with the torch!

Cleaving one of the monstrous leeches in twain, blood splashes away as the thing splits in two. In the torchlight it's also obvious that the woman's own blood drips profusely down her leg. In aguish, Sulara squirms backwards, trying to get the one latched to her midsection away.

Suddenly, a cry of alarm arises to the woman's left. Hearing someone bellow "Ware! I can help!" in the Gallian tongue, Sulara just manages to glimpse a man in a previously unseen crevice fling some kind of club her way...

I think you got a 16 on the first hit. Roll for next round's initiative and indicate her actions. If attacking, go ahead and roll...same restrictions.

Osan Taan, hp 8/8

Seeing the Suevi chop one of the gigantic leeches in two, and not wanting to hit her by mistake should his aim not be true, Osan turns to the leech in the pool and attacks with his aklys.

Osan Aklys: to hit [1d20] = 2, damage [1d4] = 3

Ulrich, Tales of The Troll Company
Alex Fiord, The Rescuers

Leeches' Initiative: [1d10] = 2

Oh, boy. Here we go again...

Sulara and Osan's Tie-breaking Initiative: [1d10] = 6
Leeches' Tie-breaking Initiative: [1d10] = 4

Unaware of the wilder's attempts to hit it, the third leech attacks the Suevi warrior:

Leech Attack: [1d20] = 1
But, confused by the degree of splashing in the pool, it fails to lock on to her.

Already attached to her side, the bloodthirsty leech manages to hurt the woman grievously before she bashes and cuts it away, killing it...

Automatic Leeching Damage: [1d4] = 1

Moving back, Sulara begins to extract herself from the water when she and the unknown man notice a swelling in the water from farther in the cave. Moving rapidly, the form pushes a large wake in front of it...

Roll one more round of initiative. If you lose initiative she'll be in the water when the large creature arrives to play.

IF she gets out of the water....Sulara quickly jabs her torch in wall and readies her axe, feeling woozy from blood loss she musters what strength she can, sure she can't run she watches and says a quick prayer while backing away from the waters edge.

Leeches' Initiative: [1d10] = 2

What the heck is going on with this roller?

Sulara's Tie-breaking Initiative: [1d10] = 4
Leeches' Tie-breaking Initiative: [1d10] = 6

Battling the single leech that remains of the original three, the warrior fights desperately to reach the edge of the pool.

She'll make it unless she's brought low by the surviving one...but she needs to fight off that one while doing it. Go ahead and roll attacks...same deal as before.

Sulara, 4(10)

Sulara swipes at the last leech as she completes her rearward advance.

Axe, to hit: natural 20 - 4 + 1 = 17; damage: 4-2+1= 3
Torch, to hi: 7-2+1; damage: 2+1=

Sorry, I read it if I won initiative I was out of water or would have rolled attacks before.

Making one last lunge, the last of the unusual creatures flings itself at the warrior...

Leech Attack: [1d20] = 6

Not fortunate in its pursuit, as the Suevi moves back the thing runs out of deep water and slinks back below the surface of the pool.

Barrellng forward, the mother of all leeches sloshes forward- a small tidal wave of water flooding into the passage that Sulara had come down. At that instant, the warrior's companions rush in and nearly knock the barbarian back into the water.

Astounded, and shrieking in alarm, the newcomers stand amazed as the gargantuan leech wallows back into the depths of the pool.

Lost in the confusion (and Sulara's retreating torchlight) is the unusual man who had poked his head out of some narrow crevice. Of this, the others have no clue.

OK, I'm locking this thread up and shifting back to the group thread.
