Chapter 2: The Woes of Reuna
Re: Chapter 2: The Woes of Reuna
Perhael clutches his book of laws and his quill and tries to make himself as invisible as possible amongst the group of villagers.
Abney places his lantern on the ground to the side so as not to let it get knocked about in the coming moments. He grips his pole tightly as he stands shoulder to shoulder with those defying the kobolds.

Re: Chapter 2: The Woes of Reuna
Smelly Seth keeps his sling loaded and ready to launch its missile as his sharp eyes dart amongst the Kobolds, backing up a bit and ready to use his weapon if things go the way he's pretty sure they are about to go....
Betsy Cartmaker takes a deep breath and clutches her club in her strong arms, stepping forward and ready to fight for her life and the lives of her fellow villagers as Frank Fruitcastle nervously clutches his Dagger and shakily does the same, though his eyes are wide and fear is written all over his features.....
Talya Snaresetter unwittingly imitates Seth the beggar; keeping her sling at the ready, closely watching the Kobolds and ready to fling a stone at them at the first sign of trouble as she steps back and out wide a bit, to giver herself room to use her weapon.....

Ingrid Bloom
Ingrid never thought she would be in a situation like this in her life. She takes a few steps backwards to leave some space between her and the folks in front of her and looks back in the direction of Reuna while drawing her longsword from its scabbard. As she scans about she looks around for anything that might be a tasty distraction for an angry wolf.

Re: Chapter 2: The Woes of Reuna
The leader of the dog men waits for the party's response. As he does, Ingrid looks around for anything she thinks would be tempting for a wolf. GM rolls dice. Off the road she does see a limb from a recently deceased villager that has been (for lack of a more polite term) cooked by the nearby fires.
When the leader sees the party does not intend to surrender, he sneers, as if this was the outcome he was hoping for. "Verrrry well. Meet a similarrrr end as the otherrrrrrrrrs."
He barks a command in his native language. They all advance on the party as the leader pulls a rolled piece of parchment from his robe.
Actions?

Re: Chapter 2: The Woes of Reuna
Ferd, sensing trouble from the scroll, shifts his target priority to the leader and fires at it, instead.
Gerd will stay close to his brother and attack any target that comes close enough, but he's feeling less confident about the situation by the minute.
Sonja will not seek out battle, but will attack an enemy that is trying specifically to attack her, trying to feign as helpless until they get close enough for her to surprise them with an attack.
Zelda will aggressively defend her fellow townsfolk from attackers--she'll move to attack any enemy that makes a hostile action against a townfolk that she can see.
Well, I sure hope this isn't how my rolls are going to be the whole way through...3 out of 4 attack rolls 1 or 2, 3 out of 4 damage rolls a 1.

Re: Chapter 2: The Woes of Reuna
Ingrid Bloom
Ingrid hurries to the side of the road. She looks at the charred limb, wondering if it was a leg or an arm. Was it someone she knew?
She feels revulsion at the cruelty of these dog-headed creatures and grabs a scrap of cloth or clump of natural debris to hold the limb. She faces the sneering attackers and braces herself for their forthcoming attack, specifically with an eye on the wolves.
What is the current situation? Are the dog-headed men advancing and the wolves still quenching their thirst?
If they are already approaching I would like to hurl the limb in the path of the nearest wolf.

Re: Chapter 2: The Woes of Reuna
Smelly Seth of the 'Beggar's Guild' sees the enemy approach and winding up his sling, he launches a stone at the closest wolf....
Damage if it hits (I'm assuming his +2 DEX bonus does NOT apply to damage):
Talya Snaresetter does the same, only she launches her sling stone at the nearest Kobold.....
Damage if it hits:
Betsy Cartmaker stares angrily at the approaching Kobolds and when one gets too close, she yells out "TAKE THAT YOU....YOU....MONSTER!" and swings her Club at it....
Damage if it hits (I'm assuming her STR of 15 gives a +1 to damage, if not, apologies):
Frank Fruitcaslte, doing his best to stand by Betsy, swallows nervously and then launches an attack on the same Kobold with his Knife....
Damage if it hits (likewise using the +1 from his STR 13 in the damage):

Re: Chapter 2: The Woes of Reuna
Perhael tries to stand behind as large a group as possible in order to keep his person from any harm. Should anything get close enough, he will stab at it with his quill while screaming, "Get away... get away!!"
At the front of the group, Abney swings his staff around, try to keep anything that approaches at bay. He continues swinging it till something comes close and then directly swings at it yelling "Wha-pow!"

Samwell, please give a d20 luck check (DC 15) to see if the limb distracts the wolf. Good luck!Samwell Turleton wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 12:41 pm Ingrid Bloom

Ingrid sees a wolf advancing towards their group of travelers. She adjusts her grip and tosses the limb towards the nearest wolf. As she is lobbing it, some chunks fly off and make it wobble in the air a little to the side of where she intended to throw it.
Wolf Distraction [1d20]=12 with a -1 for a result of 11. I may need to spend luck liberally.

Re: Chapter 2: The Woes of Reuna
The battle begins in the smoky air. The kobolds advance on the party, save the robed kobold and another that stays behind to defend him. Two of them bark commands to the wolves, who rush to attack as the party forms small groups to combat them.
I am giving actions more or less in the order of initiative so you all can see how the rolls panned out.
Seth, known around the village for his deft touch, hurls a sling stone at one of the advancing wolves. It cracks the canine between the eyes, a perfect shot! It lets out a sharp yelp as it dies instantly.
Ferd draws his bow and aims at the robed kobold. It incants a spell in a different arcane language as it reads from the parchment in front of it. It growls as no discernible effect takes place, then yelps in pain as Ferd's arrow sinks into its arm. It still lives.
The enemies reach the group. Gerd and Sonja miss with their attacks. Lars slashes at one with his axe, but it bounces off a kobold's armor. The sturdier of the two wolves attacks Sonja, but she easily evades its bite.
Betsy yells "Take that!" as she clubs one of the dogmen. It staggers, blood oozing from its head, then growls and stabs back at the cartmaker, killing the bold adventurer.
Kobold attacks Betsy [1d20-1]=19-1=18 damage [1d6-1]=6-1=5
Frank, standing by Betsy's side, gains revenge by slaying Betsy's assailant with his knife!
Abney whacks at another kobold with his staff, striking it in the head with a loud crack.
Another kobold attacks Drubo, slaying the dwarven chestmaker.
Kobold attacks Drubo [1d20-1]=18-1=17 damage [1d6-1]=5-1=4
Perhael, standing behind Drubo, yells "Get away!" as he stabs his quill through the kobolds neck. It slumps to the ground and bleeds out in seconds.
The kobold guarding the robed kobold pulls a horn from its belt. As it brings the horn to its lips, Tayla unleashes a sling stone towards it. It caves in one side of its face and it falls to the ground, dead. It drops its horn.
Two more kobolds advance on Zelda and Gerd. Their blades draw streams of blood, but they fight on -1hp for both! Zelda counterattacks, but the blood from her wound causes the grip on her weapon to slip. Fumble result: -2 on next attack.
Kobold attacks Gerd [1d20-1]=17-1=16 damage [1d6-1]=2-1=1
Kobold attacks Zelda [1d20-1]=11-1=10 damage [1d6-1]=1-1=0
Wil, caught up in the battle, attempts to get the leader's attention, but finds Zelda's assailant a reachable target. He slays it with his short sword!
Four kobolds and a wolf lie dead at the hands of the party. One more, along with its wolf, are in melee. The leader, alone, stands about thirty feet away.
max_vale, GreyWolf please feel free to give Betsy and Drubo memorable deaths.

Re: Chapter 2: The Woes of Reuna
Does Zelda lose HP even though the modified damage roll is 0? Just wanted to make sure that isn't an oversight. Thanks!
Re: Chapter 2: The Woes of Reuna
Zelda shakes off the hit, her slow spirit roused by the heat of battle and the deaths of the villagers around her. She lunges forward and strikes at the remaining nearby kobold.
Hammer to the Kobold [1d20]=16 Damage [1d4]=1
Sonja circles around and, seeing her opportunity to ingratiate herself to the other villagers with limited danger, steps in to attack the kobold as well. She tries for a mighty blow, but she's not at all used to using her stick as a weapon.
Beggar's stick [1d20]=8 Damage [1d4]=4
Ferd tries to replicate the success of his earlier sure strike. He pulls the last of his two arrows from the quiver and closes his eyes for a moment, uttering a brief prayer to the patron saint of Ruena before letting fly at the kobold leader.
Arrowed! [1d20]=17 Damage [1d6]=5
I realized I accidentally added a +1 to hit on his last shot--increasing a 15 to a 16. I hope it wouldn't alter the outcome, but I've corrected it here.
Gerd, seeing the enemy numbers thin quickly, sees that the best way to defend his brother and the others is by quickly dispatching the surviving enemies, so he steps away from Ferd's side to try to chop the wolf with his axe.
Wolf fillet coming right up [1d20+1]=10+1=11 Damage [1d6+1]=5+1=6

Not sure if something was missed or I missed it but I don't see in the update what happened to Torben but I do see the other 3 characters I had/have in it.

Re: Chapter 2: The Woes of Reuna
I may have missed updating on a couple misses. I had them separated into separate columns in my sheet so I could resolve deaths, damage, etc. If it wasn't included, it didn't affect the outcome. But rest assured Torben lives! He just missed with his attack last round.GreyWolfVT wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 12:43 am Not sure if something was missed or I missed it but I don't see in the update what happened to Torben but I do see the other 3 characters I had/have in it.
