Ulfgar looks the wardrobe over then opens one of the facing doors. Inside on one side are clerical vestments hanging on wooden hangers. On the other side are a number of items: a mace, a shield, a suit of chainmail, and a helmet. Along the bottom are several pairs of shoes.

Orram enters the office and listens at the northern door while trying to peak through either the keyhole or a gap in the floor. There is a keyhole and Orram finds the key in the lock on this side. There is only darkness under the door or through the keyhole if he removes the key and looks through it.

Fergus positions himself near the altar, so he has visibility of the side room doorway, altar and the hole in the floor. He keeps an eye on things, fully expecting something to leap out at him...but it doesn't.

Black Wolf walks to the door leading out of the room to the south and stands waiting for the others to finish their examinations.

Wendel looks at the bookshelves and finds books, a few scroll cases, pots containing incense, and a few bottles. Scanning the book spines Wendel sees most are liturgical in nature and would containing a textual description of the rituals performed by Priests of Ord. From their heft, two of the scroll cases aren't empty.

  • Mage Armor spell [10 DC to cast, 12 to learn; reduce any damage by 2 HP for 6 rounds]
  • Identify spell [10 DC to cast, 12 to learn; upon success identifies any magical item and revels its properties]

Looking closely at the dusty bottles Wendel is able to make out that all but three of the bottles contain fragrances, likely used in the rituals. Of the remaining three 2 contain potions and the last is a flask filled with Holy Water.

  • Potion of Healing [recover 1d6 HP]
  • Potion of Absolution [recover one spell lost during the day other than through a critical failure]
  • Flask of Holy Water with a brush stopper [Fling the Holy Water on Undead or any Chaotic creature to do 2d6 damage at Close range, upon the roll of a 12 the Flask is empty]


Naugrim searches the desk. He finds a pot that was once filled with ink, now dried to a solid lump, a small pointed stick made of ivory that would be used for writing in a holder. There is a book to one side contain names and accounts of some type. A Holy Book of Ord is on the other side where the Priest could easily take it to hand. Inside the desk are two drawers filled various things: a small knife for sharpening quills, several quills waiting to be sharpened, a leather bag containing 5 gold and 26 sliver pieces, a cameo on a silver chain with a lock of brown hair inside the locket, a set of keys attached to a heavy lead fob, and number of blank sheets of parchment.

Willow keeps a wary eye on the main room from just outside the doorway. Willow looks back and forth to those inside and Fergus standing outside at the Altar.

Wendel, does still have his detect magic running, and when he approaches the wardrobe he detects magic emanating from the mace, shield, and chainmail. It isn't especially strong magic but it is there. Nothing else in the wardrobe gives off any magical aura.

Nothing atop the desk gives off a magical glow, however when Ulfgar holds the cameo up by the chain Wendel does catch a magical aura glowing around it. He knows right away what this is, too! It's a Charm of Protection giving the wearer a bit of extra protection from something...he can't say what without Identifying it, but that's what it is. [+1 AC Protection Against ???]

"Good, we should be able to disable the trap. However, it would seem logical to take a look through this other door first, there might be something else of use there.

Wendel then proceeds to tell the others what detects as magical and about the amulet.

"One of the scrolls I found is of identifying the properties of a magical device. But I would rather hold of using it and instead study it to add it to my magical repertoire."

Fergus can use a shield with his sword and doesn't have one... and Wendel wants the scrolls. That leaves the cameo necklace for Willow and Black Wolf can take the vials to the frontline. "

Ulfgar removes his leathers and secures the chainmail on his person. He has to chinch up the straps a bit in places and let them out in others, and it is a bit longer than he likes as the skirt hangs down to below his knees. That can be fixed with a bit of downtime to work on it, but for now it will do. The chainmail helm fits his head well!

As Ulfgar moves around he notices that the mail is heavier, and bulkier, than he is used to (Two Gear Slots). It also makes jingling and clanking sounds as he moves. This is going to be a DISADVANTAGE for him if he has to sneak about or swim in it. However, he does feel much more protected in this chainmail 13+1=14+Dex AC).

There is still a Mace with a magical aura around it that hasn't been taken. Looks like I didn't read far enough ahead, as all is taken. :)

Hefting the shield, he finds it is well balanced and will surely add to his protection [Magic Shield+1=+2AC]


Wendel nods, "It does seem a reasonable way to divide what we have found."

As Wendel scans the Mage Armor spell he notes the description of this spell is different from the descriptions he has seen elsewhere. Always reducing damage rather than making it harder to get hit and for only about half as long. Perhaps this should be called Lesser Mage Armor - reduce all damage by 2 for 6 rounds, 10+ to cast, 12+ to learn

Willow fingers the cameo as a warm feeling comes over her. She feels strangely protected from the chaotic forces that surround her in this place. The feeling leaves her when she releases her hold on the amulet. [Minor Protection from Chaos: +1AC but only by touch and only when attacked by chaotic creatures]

Black Wolf accepts the vials and puts them in his pouch calling out, "Hey! There is another door over on this side of the room, too! It's locked and there's no key."

You all look around. Yes, there are 3 doors in this room: one from the dais through which you came; one going north that Orram checked (locked, but there's a key in the lock); and one going south that Black Wolf is standing beside pointing.

"So, we going north or south, or back out to the big room with the trap door?" he asks.

OOC: Okay, your first big treasure haul. :) Everyone needs to update their character sheets noting what they have added and the effects.

Be sure to update what is in your Gear Slots, too! Chainmail=2GS, Shield=1GS, Amulet=0GS, Scrolls=1GS each, Potions=1GS each (I think this is the intention in Shadowdark, to really limit what you can carry, but it does seem draconian doesn't it?).

If it's not in your Gear Slots you don't have it, and if you overload your Slots you drop everything and can only pick up items up to the number of Slots your PC actually has. Please, make sure I can easily find your Gear Slots on your Character Sheet.
