Interlude: Amondiage to Acadie

#1 Post by Hvalreki »

The Travellers assemble on the gangway leading up to the crew deck of the Divine Intervention.

Their gear has been stowed in the cavernous bay and the shepherds heard the last of the goats into the ship as the loading ramp begins to ascend.

The ships crew has vacated 2 of the 4 staterooms for the party. The accommodations are clean if a bit utilitarian but everyone is glad it's only for a week.

There are hammocks rigged in cargo bay outside of the goat pens, as there are only bunks for two in each stateroom.

Thankfully, the trip from Amondiage to the jump point in deep space is routine. The heavy freighter even has an escort for a time from the local Amondiage naval forces. They accompany the Divine Intervention to the 100 diameter limit as a training exercise for their crew before heading back to Amondiage.

The transition to jumpspace is disquieting as always, but uneventful and soon everyone settles into the week of travel ahead.

In honor of the jump Captain Jandala prepares a meal of curried goat, rice and beans, and fried plantains for their first dinner together. The crew common area is cramped with 9 people but the fare is good and the crew friendly enough. After dinner a bottle is produced, songs are sung and The Travellers retire for the night.

If anyone wishes to take any actions during the trip post them here. Otherwise I will start a new thread when the ship arrives in the Acadie system.

The only special activity for Ty is using the library data to research Acadie, its politics, factions, laws, economics, etc. Brushing up on General Knowledge/current events to identify pertinent info.

Upon boarding Gabe stays clear of the bridge, finds one of the hammocks, and settles his gear. He never heard an answer to whether Capt. Jandala allowed open carry during the "0-100D" transit, so for the sake of discretion he keeps his ruck close at hand with the sword and gun inside. Naval escort or no, this is the period when ship's troops are most alert, and the drill is still fresh for Gabe. After J-point he locks up his weapons (except for the multitool), slips on his deck-socks, and even dozes for a bit until it's time for the captain's mess. Gabe enjoys the plantains, spicy curry, wine, conversation, and of course the RB & Rice, and goes back to his hammock with a little more tolerance for the smell of live goats.

Starting the next day, Gabe tries to make the acquaintance of any members of the crew who aren't sticklers for protocol OR blazed out of their minds on cannabis. Gabe then begins prowling every square meter of the ship he's allowed into, and learning what he can about the simpler systems. He's no deck hand, but next time this happens he hopes to know enough to squeak by for Working Passage instead of having to pay for it.

Those of us who aren't Pilots should deduct Cr1500 from our cash, yes?

Sorry, any weaponry is stored in the ships locker during the trip. The best Pilot is Piotr so he is working passage, the rest are passengers at 1500 a head.

The best Pilot Navigator is Piotr, but Ty gets the nod for top rated Pilot.

Acadie

C868563-9

Starport Class C, Breathable Atmosphere, 60% water, Hundreds of Thousands of inhabitants, Captive Government (colony), Law Level 3, Tech Level 9

There isn't much information in the Library Data entry about Acadie beyond the map and brief description:

Acadie is an agricultural, nonindustrial, pre-rich world with a growing agro-economy, but still lacks an adequate population to expand its economy to a rich status.

As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.

This world is controlled from Amondiage (Reft 2325)

Nah. I already deducted the 1500cr. They musta liked Piotr ‘cause he didn’t hit off the fatty (then feel ashamed about it).

Ty will take some time to use some electronic kit tools that he purchased with company/government dollars to engrave his name or initials on the case, all tools big enough to engrave on, and all his other items.…”lest they get mixed up with the Divine Providence’s tools” Everything gets well worn and “broken in”.

He’ll also play with the newly acquired shotgun microphone by trying to capture embarrassing conversations from down the corridors. But only with his own crew mates.

I think we already negotiated for Ty to get the free Passage. Piotr might have earned his bones by plotting the jump to Acadie, but that ship has... flown.

Observing the onboard rules, Gabe hands over the Ruck containing his cutlass, six-gun and ammo and a lock on the zipper.

Aziz 'Easy' Schmidt

Colonel Aziz 'Easy' Schmidt: Mechanics [2d6+3]=6+3=9

Is not really used to 'confined to quarters', even on paying passenger slot. So during the flight, as he has toolkit and head knowledge to apply, he can assist any engineering or mechanical issues that crop up. Partly to stop himself getting stir crazy and also to invest a little in the craft and Captain. Who knows, maybe we need some fortuitous contact and one that could trust us not to mutiny on the ship and hijack it for our own ends.

debited -1500cr.

Would the Divine Intervention/Captain Jandala have any excess vehicle he might sell on. I could perhaps fix a wheeled motorbike or hover-craft for our own usage if one is available.

If you wish to retcon a vehicle purchase back on Amondiage no problem. Cargo rates are CR 1,000/ton per trip for haulage between worlds.

Motorcycle, .5 Tons, CR 1,000
Ground Car, 2 Tons, CR 4,0000
ATV, wheeled or tracked, 10 Tons, CR 30,000
Hovercraft, 8 Tons, CR 200,000

Grav Vehicles are probably out of your collective price range unless you pool all your cash:
Grav Belt, CR 100,000
Air Raft, 4 Tons, CR 600,000
Grav Bike 1.5 Tons, CR 200,000
Speeder 6 Tons, CR 1,000,000

Despite outward appearances the Divine Intervention is old, but very well maintained. Crew spaces are clean and orderly and the common spaces ship-shape.

Underway, the ship is miraculously smoke free although a funky odor seems to permeate every pressurized space. The Travellers are hard pressed to say if it's the goats or something else, but eventually they get used to it.

The week in Jump Space goes by without incident and everyone lets out a cheer when they translate back into N-Space and the stars reappear. They encounter the Free Trader Petit Jardin on their voyage from the Jump Point to the planet. The crew exchange pleasantries and mention some trouble brewing on back on Acadie stemming from a general strike at one of the outlying farming operations in the town of Houllion, about a 100 km from Acadie city.

Acadie soon fills the viewscreens and ground control grants them clearance, shortly thereafter the ship lands planetside. Almost immediately the ship is filled with smoke again as local workers hustle aboard to start herding the cargo off the ship.

The crew of the Divine Intervention wishes them a fond farewell but after a week of rice and beans with every meal and double occupancy staterooms and a hold full of goats, everyone is glad the trip is over.

No, I was just trying to fill in some in-flight roleplay.

I guess we head off straight away to the port, locate the ship and primarily get familiar with its condition before we locate the missing crew abd data files.

Wait, did I miss something? I thought from the mission brief the data cores were on the Perfect Stranger…and from Dagh, the Perfect Stranger is on the landing pad at this lower quality downport. Were’nt the data cores a component of the ship?

I am not an expert (player) on data files or chips. I am thinking if they are stored in a vault or reasonably stored in a secret place by one of the crew, then a few clues and research might lead us to them.

It would be great to just go "Computer, access and download those data files please" but I can't think it will be that easy.

Ah, I see where you’re coming from. I found what I remembered:

Mission Brief:
Your mission is to find the Perfect Stranger and return her to Zuflucht. The IIS team there will access her data cores and then return the ship to service in the Islands on a new mission. If you’re able to uncover what happened to the crew and return them as well so much the better but the data on that ship is irreplaceable. If necessary, the ship may be considered expendable as long as the data cores are recovered and returned with the data intact.

Since the crew went missing and the ship has been left unattended for months on a low law level planet, I guess anything could have happened. I have some speculations after you said that I won’t voice until we get more data.

Yeah, let's find the ship first! :)

I think we're meant to fly it back to Imperial Space...along with its data cores, and the crew if we can find them. The mission priorates appear to be, in order: 1. get the data cores back, 2. get the ship back, 3. recover the crew (dead or alive) or at least find out what happened to them. But first, and foremost, get those data cores back to our bosses.

Forgot to mention... During the jump voyage, along with spending his days combing the ship and trying to get some OJT hours on its basic systems, Gabe spends a few hours each day jogging around the hold and working out using whatever objects he can find as weights.

When its time to go, he joins in the farewells to the friend or two he made on the crew.
