Moriartus remembers his long held Potion of Plant Control, imbibing it and then spreading his coercive influence upon the Hound Blights that surround the group as a wild, rabid pack. Just as the incantation of Sleep caused several of the beasts to wilt, another area of effect magic causes more creatures to root themselves into the boggy earth, immobilising rather than aggressively pouncing. The mage will get to bring other areas of the circle around him under his influence in following rounds.

As he does so, others take actions to defend themselves. Having Blessed the group for melee actions, Hake crashes a cudgel at short range into a hound, -5hp. Jorly follows up, a flying elbow and chop, -3hp to further snap boney branches that form the creature's skeleton.

Arrows though make no mark, the shafts loosed wide or failing to pierce them. Raven's unerring Magic Missile smashes into it. -4hp, finally bringing it down.

The npc aides have mixed fortunes, only one creature brought down by a combination of mercenary teamwork.

Ben n Jake: battleaxes: [1d20+1]=14+1=15[1d8+1]=8+1=9 [1d20+1]=3+1=4[1d8+1]=8+1=9Two-Birds: Quarterstaff [1d20+1]=2+1=3[2d4]=3[1d20+1]=14+1=15[2d4]=3Froed. Melee Hammer [1d20]=5 [1d4+1]=4+1=5 Conmhaol: bites [1d20]=18 [1d6]=6

Conmhaol interposes himself as a Blighthound pounces towards the ranger, biting and savaging -6hp

Blighters: [1d20]=9 [1d20]=2 [1d20]=3 [1d20]=6Blighters: [1d20]=12 [1d20]=12 [1d20]=10 [1d20]=11Blighters: [1d20]=19 [1d20]=1 [1d20]=7 [1d20]=7

Of numerous bites and raking claw attacks, only one is serious, Froed -5hp, Dufr -1hp, Ben -1hp, Conm -1hp, Raven, -2hp. The npc's taking the brunt of attacks.

Moriartus can compel another section of the Hound pack I figure you can cover a quarter of a circle , 90° each round as you sweep up Plant Control.

Dalin if still able to without hitting anyone else will keep reloading and using his crossbow.

Moriartus
Image

He pivots to focus on the next quadrant of the mass melee to impose his will upon the Blight Hounds.

After that, he casts a Shield spell on himself.

Spell retention (17): [_4d6+1]=(6+6+3+5)=20+1=21

Dufr

Dufr attacks the closest plant hound.

Sling bullet [1d20]=10 to hit [1d4+1]=4+1=5 damage

Switching this to his long sword since I just realized he is in melee now. Damage would be 1d8 but I don't think it hits.

Fight in the Feywild

Blight Hounds: 16+ vs Light spell: [1d20]=20

Hake tries to bring a Blight-Hound into the Light of St Ygg but the creature batters an eyelid and instead a dazzling radiance illuminated the shadowed forest.

Raven misses with his staff, his cat leaping upon the back of a critter to aid his master's cause. Dufr proves a duffer, Froed copies his kinsman and Dalin makes a trio of dwarven fumbles.

The mercenary aides all strike, -7hp, -9hp, -6hp.

Froed. Melee Hammer [1d20]=10 [1d4+1]=2+1=3 Two-Birds: Quarterstaff [1d20+1]=2+1=3[2d4]=4[1d20+1]=19+1=20[2d4]=7Ben n Jake: battleaxes: [1d20+1]=13+1=14[1d8+1]=8+1=9 [1d20+1]=13+1=14[1d8+1]=5+1=6

Dougal wings one beastie, his enchanted bow causing the piercing to penetrate and injure (the Blight-Hounds are unaffected by normal arrows) and a follow up critical strike shafts another as it leaps, the arrow flying through the gaping mouth and exiting from the haunches. Conmhaol can pounce upon the collapsing roots to finish clawing it apart.

Warding himself with a Shield, Moriartus compels another quadrant worth of animated plant creatures to succumb to his coercion. Several more join those in sleep or bound repose.

Blight Hounds: plant controlled [1d6]=4

The pack of Blight-Hounds have been decimated, with no specific 'leadership' among them the pack goes into disarray and those not in combat can slink back into the forest depths.

The remaining ones can be brought into submission by the potion effect and this ceases further combat and for a few more rounds, you can control them as you see fit.

Blight Hounds: controlled by Moriartus [1d6]=6

Ash Gnolem & Amphoebe stand to one side, they have not encountered such creatures before so you might conclude these are caused by some Blight affect.

Next actions please.

Dalin reloads and keeps attacking whatever critter he can if providing he can hit. "Keep it up Froed we'll hit something eventually..."

Hake

If safe to do so, Hake recovers his thrown club from the ground.

He casts his eyes around for any chunks of wood that might serve as additional missile weapons.

"These hounds are blighted and must be destroyed."
The comrades make short work of slaying the remaining Blight-Hounds. The inquisitive can do a base autopsy upon a carcass, noting these creatures must have once been some normal creature once upon a time; a deer, a fox, a wolf; yet strangely lignified and morphed into some branch-like arboreal nightmare.

They have no treasure. Shafts and stones can be found, if Hake wishes a new cudgel he can cut one.

Actions I will update with trekking out of this portion of blighted forest unless anyone wants to action any specific rolls; searching nearby, Wisdom or Intelligence checks, skill rolls.

Moriartus
Image

Moriartus closes his eyes and relaxes, attempting to enter the same state of mind as when he first communed with Sylvanus in the Green Man barrow mound. Sylvanus had directed him to the location of the harpy's lair, in exchange for his vow to eradicate the blight affecting the western Duchy forests. He hoped that another sign would emerge to guide them towards the sacred grove.
