Or there was a lot of grav vehicle use on Beau, especially to the better hunting grounds? Sort of like the Land Rovers, they are built to last but need routine work like all things. Since they were often out in the bush, Mick learned to take care of the vehicles instead of having to call a repair in from way out in the boonies.

Think more like a NEW Grav Vehicle costs more than your BOAT and NEVER BREAKS DOWN ... but a 30 year old Grav Vehicle costs about half the price of your BOAT and is CONSTANTLY needing "encouragement" to start. You had a lot of opportunity to "encourage" the PP & Grav Drive on your Air Raft [Eng-0] ... but not much opportunity to formally study [Eng-1] and become a certified Engineer (rebuilding the thing). The difference between an Air Raft, a Modular Cutter and a Starship when speaking of a Fusion PP and Grav Drive is SIZE. Like Motorcycle vs Pickup Truck vs Tugboat engines ... same skill, different scale.
