Any interest in a Dungeon Crawl Classic (DCC) campaign?
Hi all,
With some time freeing up in my personal life, I thought I'd check to see if there's any interest in a DCC campaign. Marullus ran a fantastic game here a couple years ago and I fell in love with the system. Magic is variable, fighters can perform heroic deeds, there's plenty to do for thieves, and clerics can be very powerful if they hew to their god's will.
In this game, heroes aren't born, they are made!
The DCC rules have an old-school feel, and they typically start with a 0-level funnel. Most 0-levels die grisly deaths...those that survive go on to greater things. One of the charms of this for me is character development happens as the game proceeds, not at the beginning. So you can quickly roll up 4 characters (a click of the mouse and a decision) and you're good to go.
A short version of the rules are here, but you don't need to read them all ahead of time. There's a learning curve, but it's shallow!

I have one player lined up and am looking for a total of 4-6 to start. Please let me know if there are any questions.
For full disclosure, I ran a sandbox game here for a couple years. It ended up as an abandoned game as real life got too busy and the game became too much to manage. I've learned from that experience and won't let it happen again. Looking forward to it if there's interest!

I am interested. I have lots of experience with other old school systems but none with DCC and would like to give it a try.

I guess figuring one as a wannabe fighter, one a mage, a cleric and a rogue; all cannon fodder until one survives the tribulations and emerges victorious. So you can quickly roll up 4 characters
I will take a read through of the quick start.

Wow!
Welcome back AB!
I like DCC! But I also like games that don’t get abandoned.
I’m curious how you will implement the unusual die rolls used in DCC here on the US.
EDIT: Never mind….I have been using the dice roller app on my phone for so long I forgot you can make a macro for any roll here.
Any posting rate expectations?
Good to have you back, man!

If you still have room, you can count me in. I have not played DCC, but like Rex various other other old school systems

Yes, the idea is that hopefully one of your four survive to level 1. This is also a race-as-class game so you can add dwarf, halfling, and elf to the mix. I think I will ask players to only play one character once they pass level 0 but we'll see how things progress.I guess figuring one as a wannabe fighter, one a mage, a cleric and a rogue; all cannon fodder until one survives the tribulations and emerges victorious.
Ha ha...missed you OM! In the past I've hated when GMs start several games and have them peter out quickly. So I felt I had to own up to my own transgression. I don't plan on abandoning this one...I will keep the scope sufficiently small.I like DCC! But I also like games that don’t get abandoned.
Good question - I'm thinking 3-4 posts per week. It looks like there's interest, so I'll ask for a forum to be set up. We'll use the US dice roller in game, and you'll be welcome to use it for character generation. However, if you want do generate your four quickly you can use this site with default settings (3d6 as Crom intended!).Any posting rate expectations?

I just ask that you not roll more than once. In the past some of the worst 0-levels survived to level 1 and they ended up being very rewarding and fun role playing scenarios.
My understanding on interest is:
In
Rex
gurusql
CAI4 (player I had lined up)
Maybe

Stirling

I will go ahead and commit.
My character players have thinned down recently and a 'funnel' to winnow the chaff from the heroic can only add to the fun.
Edit: I used the above purplesorceror link and can translate those into US dice roller character sheets.
Here is a snapshot:

Re: Any interest in a Dungeon Crawl Classic (DCC) campaign?
Welcome back, Alebelly! DCC is a fun system when you get to actually use the rules for leveled characters. Unfortunately, so many times at conventions, most people run funnels. The nice thing about random 0-level characters is that they are pretty much all equally bad, so there isn't much point in rolling up another set.
Have fun everybody!

On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

If these are OK I will covert them to the die roller sheets. I left Alignment blank so I could pick it.

Cybersavant, after you have a chance to look at the rules please let me know if you'd like to be on the waitlist. I'm going to cap at 6 to make sure that I can keep up with the game but there may be a chance to get you in relatively early. Thanks all!

I haven’t logged onto the Unseen Servant forum for a very long time but I am very glad I felt called to it today. If there is a wait list, I would like to be considered for the game.
I want to also give a shout out to Marullus for making a very memorable run of DCC and that it was a real joy to play in that game with you AleBelly.

Re: Any interest in a Dungeon Crawl Classic (DCC) campaign?
DCC is the first one I'm aware of to use a funnel (though I can't claim that for sure) but I've seen others use it since. It's a popular way to start at 0-level.

Re: Any interest in a Dungeon Crawl Classic (DCC) campaign?
Not a funnel but 1e and 2e D&D had rules for starting as 0 level. At least 1 module too.
Re: Any interest in a Dungeon Crawl Classic (DCC) campaign?
Just looked, 1e had 2 modules that started you out at zero level. N4 and N5. I have played in N4, never seen N 5.
