something is lost in the translation - time lag, time zones, distractions; i find that open-ended games games die much more frequently than directed games, shorter ones fair better, even if the game is a series of short scenarios
as a GM [ not on here ] i find my own games lag at times and i wrestle with should i propel it forward or give the players more time to decide on a direction - but then clues that seem obvious to me aren't always gleaned by the players, and vice versa for games i play in
i have no problem with people ending a game - with an explanation- it didn't work for some reason
i hate that i spent a lot of time on character creation only to not play, but i learn new systems via char creation, so that's something
and i start to recognize players that stick to games, so when i see them apply to a new game i know it has a chance
i choose games based on the SYSTEM not the GM for the most part
[ i am on several boards but his one seems to be more accepting of players with a wider range of games ]

Re: Abandoned Games
This. I need to absorb this. Thanks Dave.
This too. Pbp IS different and not for everyone. And it is easy to get distracted with real life. Again, I need to absorb this.cybersavant wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 6:27 am running and playing in pbp is SO different from in-person.

Re: Abandoned Games
In my winter season games, there are "Move Forward" action posts Sunday and Wednesday nights. I do "informational/answer question" posts throughout the week, but players know they have a couple days, but not much more, before the scene moves forward. This has really helped me stay on task, and I think it helps the players as well.cybersavant wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 6:27 am as a GM [ not on here ] i find my own games lag at times and i wrestle with should i propel it forward or give the players more time to decide on a direction - but then clues that seem obvious to me aren't always gleaned by te players, and vice versa for games i play in

Kudos to you Gary for asking such wonderful, thought provoking questions. Thank you, glad you’re here man! Proving again and again (your questions and all the amazing answers) how awesome Unseen Servant is!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Re: Abandoned Games
Having some sort of schedule that everyone is committed to helps. Be it every 2 days or certain days of the week. I try to follow that as GM, but frequently post at different days/times then planned but it helps keep everyone on track even if you know it can float a little bit.

Re: Abandoned Games
Hey last chime in on my part. I typically know which DMs have burned me more than 3 times. I get that life happens, things change and people change. But after giving them a do over twice after the first time with no changes on their end. I just try to keep names in mind of whom I don't get excited when they post in LFP. Nough said we do have a "foes" list on this thing for a reason I guess
