Grimm

"Hmmm.. Good point." He knocks at the door with the spear... But only after having done his inspection mentioned earlier and being sure there's no traps.

Chauncey eases up to the edge of the pit Amun discovered and peers over the edge, frowning at the closely set spikes below and mentally congratulating himself for wisely not directly approaching the door.

"Yes, yes... head on a swivel. Dungeon trickery, that's what it amounts to. Let us consider this a learning opportunity," he says. Unfortunately what they'd learned so far was not to touch, look at or interface in any way with the elements of this dungeon – difficult knowledge to act upon.

He supposes some risk must be entertained if they are to move forward. He moves to the wall directly west of where he stands and begins tapping on it with the dart in his hand, pretending to know what he is listening for...

Amun is content staying where she is for now just looking up and around, eyes darting back and forth, to catch any additional adeversaries entering while her friends search the door and the walls.

Dungeon Training

Elnaerel does what clerics do best when there are no undead around.

Amun looks around above the trapped pit, but doesn't find anything in particular.

Grimm finds no traps or indications of foul play on the door or its frame. Knocking on the door brings no response, but the thief concludes that the door opens outwards, into the room they are currently in.

Wes doesn't think the door is used much in this long forgotten place, looking around it for secret doors with his elven perceptions to no avail.

Chauncey however, tapping on the stone wall with his precious dart, has absolutely no idea what he is even searching for.

It seems that the groups sudden conversion to a more cautious approach isn't helping them out much either.

Grimm sighs and now tries to open the door wedging the spear point and using it as a lever.

Elnaerel decides not to touch anything. She's got lucky with the monster's fire.

Amun stays where she is this time around.

"Remember, if something comes at us, we back down and let it pass over the pit before attacking it all at once, okay?"

Wes

Wes winces as he sees all the abuse his poor spear is taking. Out of the corner of his eye he sees Chauncey taking a deep breath, and hurriedly jumps into the conversation before the verbose mage gets a chance.

"Grimm? Perhaps you could hammer a spike into the door? Then we could attach a rope and pull it open from a safe distance." Wes looks over at the door to see if there's a handle that would work just as well. Then he replies to Amun.

"It's possible something might charge us. I'm more concerned that once we're across that pit, it'll be hard for us to retreat. We'll be forced to face whatever is thrown at us. What if it's a room as long as this with a dozen ogres hurling rocks? Or a mad wizard launching spells?"

"Once we get that door open, and we have some idea of what's in there, I have a suggestion. We take that door off it's hinges. Lay it down over the pit so we can get back across quickly."

Wes looks at his companions. "We should treat this place just like the jungle. Everything is a resource. That door can be a bridge, a pile of firewood, a source of nails or a collection of clubs."

"The more resources we can gather, the more ways we have to avoid each trap that's been set".
Wes cracks his knuckles, relishing the chance to put the wisdom of Obad Hai to use in an unusual environment

Chauncey prepares to expound upon best intermediate dungeon practices when he is cut off by Wes, who, as usual, says something astute.

"Yes, door bridges - a sound plan and an ingenious use of limited resources," he says approvingly. He promptly waits for someone else to dirty their hands enacting it while continuing to tap aimlessly on the wall.
Heads up for the status summary, After leveling up, chauncey's should read: Chauncey (MU5) AC:3 30/30 RM, CL, DM 1/4 1st 1/2 2nd 1/1 3rd

Dungeon Training

Taking the lead on this one, Wes makes a few wise suggestions that Chauncey can really hide stand behind.

Grimm uses the borrowed dagger/spear blade to pry out the doors hinges, breaking off the tip and nicking the blade in several places in the process.

The dwarf pulls the unlocked door from its frame and lays it over the corner of the pit as a makeshift bridge.

The 20' x 20' stone walled room he sees beyond is plain, unadorned, and completely empty. There are no other doors in sight, and the stone blocks that make up the floor of the room are very rough and uneven in many spots, almost as if there was an explosion or something similar from below that pushed them up in a very haphazard fashion.

Wes

"There could be something burrowing under that floor," suggests Wes. "The stones are disturbed when it pops up to snatch someone walking across."

Grimm doesn't enter the room yet, specially after what Wes just said. He prodes the first tile with the spear from behind the doorway, even pressing it a bit as best he can from his position.

Elnaerel awaits in silence.

Wes' speech seem to strike a chord with Amun.

"Like the jungle, a forest, avoid traps. Yes I see it now."

She takes a good look at the new room as the door-bridge is put in place.

"This floor has been covered in some way to hide something, I agree. A snare, a trap or a lurking beast. We should try to remove the stones one by one starting from this doorway and making it past. Are they loose or stuck?" she asks the party members at the front.

She also tries to have a look at the ceiling so that there's no holes that might have dropped the stones on the floor.

Dungeon Training
Disturbed Floor Room

Amun looks up at the ceiling in this new room, seeing nothing out of the ordinary in its stone construction that gives the warrior pause.

Grimm prods at the disturbed stone floor with the chipped spear, unable to move any of the large, solid blocks near the doorway.

The floor disturbance is centered in a circular area just past the door and pit. But again, there is no indication of other doors inside, or any reason for the room itself to be here.

Luther
Tozz a small thing on the pushed-up blocks- see what happenss. A bag of coins- a rock Luther looks around, hoping to find a throwable thing. IF he finds something, he'll try to toss it onto the middle of the disturbed area.

Amun waits patiently for Luther to hit the disturbed part of the floor in the room in front of them.

"Yes, a predator might lay in ambush. Good idea."

Wes

"How about tossing one of the broken door hinges?" Wes suggests to Luther.

Wes scratches at his beard. "The obvious thought is that there's a predator down there... that's what the signs suggest and of course we should be sure. I have a couple of ideas though." He points at the inside of the room. "There are no obvious exits in there. What if that broken floor is actually the way out? Of course, it doesn't mean there isn't anything down there...just maybe further down the tunnel. " He sucks his teeth and shakes his head.

"I've got an idea to cross the floor too, if it looks too dangerous. It'll need The Shalm's magic, so I'd like to see if anyone has a simpler solution first." He waits to see if Luther gets any results.

Grimm tries to determine if there's anything regarding the construction of the room an be particularly the door and pit trap area that might seem off or might give him any hint in the direction of Wes ' musings. If they are in a mountain, it makes sense that the pit could be the way out.

Elnaerel also waits for the results from Luther's action.

Dungeon Training
Disturbed Floor Room

Tossing items into the disturbance from the doorway reveals no new information.

Looking the situation over through experienced dwarven eyes, Grimm notices something the others didn't.

The stone blocks in the disturbed floor appear loose, unfinished, and he doesn't see any mortar, grout, or any other binding agent that would secure the material together during normal construction practices.

When he looks back down into the 15 foot pit, he starts to get another idea. Can I get a d6 roll from Grimm, please?
