Re: 23. Right Branch (Strom, Aric, Shan, Fim, Kaltar only)
Strom is growing increasingly frustrated as each of his swings narrowly miss. He tries his best to time his next attack while still stopping any trog from slipping by.
attack:
[1d20+2] = 2+2 = 4
Man, Lodestone sucks.
I want to change his name to Lodestone Redundant since I can't hit anything until the fight is just about over anyway.

Round 3
The beasts act with a surprising quickness, but are all equally ineffective in their attempts to defend their lair. Aric and Strom each avoid two incoming javelin strikes while Kaltar easily stays out of harms way (rolls: t2, f3, t3, f1, f4).
With the beast to his right (t3) focusing on Aric, Strom shifts his focus to the beast to his left (t2), looking to both protect Shannigans and prevent the creature from potentially sneak past him but is unable to connect. Shannigans, still in two weapon fighting mode, stabs at the troglodyte targeted by Strom and manages to catch the creature's foot... and its attention.
"Damn this lizard is tough," Aric curses aloud as his previous swings have been parried by the troglodyte. He maneuvers, attempting to navigate past the defenses of the foul smelling beast with his bastard sword but is thwarted again. In a rage, the barbarian swings the torch he's carrying in his other hand into the face of the trog, frustrating the lizard beast.
(I'm going to rule that a torch will do 1d3 damage (or 1d3+1 if lit). However, a lit torch that misses by more than 5 will be extinguished).
Kaltar attempts another swing but misses; nervous sweat forming on his brow.
Fimmion will remain vigilant in his watch.

Re: 23. Right Branch (Strom, Aric, Shan, Fim, Kaltar only)
Seeing the trog hit by the torch, Aric thinks the beast may be overwhelmed with two weapons. The barbarian drops the torch, slices with sword, and hacks with his hand axe.
Bastard sword attack [1d20+3] = 8+3 = 11 Damage [2d8+4] = 3+4 = 7 plus should be only +1 due to two weapons, but I think its moot
Axe to hit [1d20-1] = 12-1 = 11, damage [1d6+4] = 5+4 = 9

Re: 23. Right Branch (Strom, Aric, Shan, Fim, Kaltar only)
Kaltar quietly prays for aid while he is carrying out his next strike:
Mace Action To Hit [1d20] = 20 Dam [1d6+1] = 1+1 = 2
A prayer which is partly answered...anything for a natural 20 Dave?

Re: 23. Right Branch (Strom, Aric, Shan, Fim, Kaltar only)
Yes. Per the 'Critical Hits and Misses' rules:saalaria wrote:anything for a natural 20 Dave?
"On a roll of a natural 20, the attack will do maximum damage for the weapon (not including any strength bonuses) and enable the character a second attack roll. If this second attack roll results in a hit, the already maximum damage will be multiplied by 1.5 (maximum damage + 0.5 maximum damage) with any strength bonus being applied after-the-fact. If this additional roll is a second natural 20, the already maximum damaged is doubled (maximum damage * 2), again with any strength bonus being applied after-the-fact."
Go ahead and make a second attack roll to see how critical your attack was.

Re: 23. Right Branch (Strom, Aric, Shan, Fim, Kaltar only)
I am jealous of your 20
Round 4
The troglodytes act quickly, but only manage a single hit against Kaltar (-6).
Strom, still focused on keeping the creatures from getting beyond him, is successful at keeping them at bay but is unable to connect with his blade. Aric, noticing the success his torch had as a second attack, drops his torch and quickly retrieves his hand axe as a second weapon, but the weight distribution throws off his balance just enough where both attacks miss (Note: The damage of a bastard sword when used one-handed is 2d4, not 2d8).
Kaltar absorbs the javelin strike against him, but manages to connect with a solid blow of his own (+20xp) which manages to drop the beast he's been fighting.
Shannigans stab at the foot of the troglodyte at the intersection (t2) and catches it.
Fimmion continues to maintain watch of the rear passages (PM forthcoming).

Kaltar (advances to) attack/s the trog in front of Aric
"Help Strom, I have this one."
He aims a decent swing at the nearest Trog:
Mace Action To Hit [1d20] = 13 Dam [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5

Aric's barbarian anger flares as he continues to be parried by the trog. "I'll see this one in hell before I move!" he growls.
His rage overides any strategic sense and he prepares to drop his axe and take his sword in both hands next round, intending on chopping the cursed lizard down like a tree.

Re: 23. Right Branch (Strom, Aric, Shan, Fim, Kaltar only)
Whilst the group of warriors fight, and Shannigans, Fimmion takes notice of the sounds of multiple creatures heading from the tunnels he is watching. He fears for the worse as they do not sound human. He throws his torch into the dark in front of him, hoping to light up the intersection and prepares to shoot a burning hands in front of the first enemy he sees. "Guys! Looks like we have an incoming group from my side. Ready yourselves!"
[1d3+4] = 1+4 = 5 Note that the spell has a range of 5 feet and has a cone effect of 120 degrees.
Once he fires his burning hands, he will retreat to the group behind him, all the while trying to stay out of the way of danger.

Re: 23. Right Branch (Strom, Aric, Shan, Fim, Kaltar only)
As Kaltar is relatively unengaged he will move to help Fim.
Dave if he can do so this round he will amend his action, if not he will do so next round.

Rounds 5/1
"How long do we keep this up?" Shannigans wonders aloud as he stabs unsuccessfully at the troglodyte at the intersection. Strom, too, continues to have difficulties landing a successful blow, but is able to keep the beasts at bay. The halfling continues to draw the ire of the intersection trog, but both he and Strom are able to avoid harm.
Aric's barbarian anger flares as he continues to be parried by the trog. "I'll see this one in hell before I move!" he growls; his rage overriding any strategic sense. The enraged barbarian continues his ambidextrous attack, but is unable to connect with either as his sword swipe is defected away effortlessly and his axe narrowly misses. Aric's reflexes prove to be too much as both attacks against him are unsuccessful.

Whilst the group of warriors fight, and Shannigans, Fimmion takes notice of the sounds of multiple creatures heading from the tunnels he is watching. He throws his torch into the dark in front of him, illuminating the intersection. "Guys! Looks like we have an incoming group from my side. Ready yourselves!" He waits; the magical words needed to conjure up his arcane powers repeating in his head, preparing to be released.
Kaltar, hearing the chef's call, leaves the barbarian to resolve his skirmish and rushes to the side of the mage.
The torch Fimmion tossed is picked up, held for a moment, then appears to approach.
At first sight of the creature now in possession of his torch, Fimmion brings his thumbs together and spreads his fingers. The magical words he had been repeating in his head are now said audibly and a jet of searing flame shoots from his fingertips at the familiar head of the swamp beast that comes into a view before quickly sneaking behind the newly arrived Kaltar. A "scream" is heard as the burnt form of a child troglodyte crumbles to the ground sizzling and another "scream" is heard; evidently from its guardians that trailed behind the youth and are now enraged.
Kaltar jumps to the defense of the chef and clubs the first adult troglodyte that presents itself, stunning the creature, but the determined beast answers with a javelin strike that overpowers the cleric (-4).
