Tuurma nods in the direction of the body.

"Yes, a rock will do, probably."

Drest

Drest grabs a rock and throws it at the body.

Thrown rock [1d20]=17 to hit

Not sure of the damage.

Going with no bow then.

"I would have preferred getting a closer look at the body. Those dogs are gonna take this as an attack..." He keeps his guard on.

I played the flute and the bagpipes and I can attest that dogs suffer with their sound

The Desert Wasteland

Valkrina's eerie tune floats on the desert winds, and as long as she plays, some of the dogs remain docile. However, when she tries to get closer to them, the remaining dogs lunge forward in her direction barking and snarling, telegraphing their intentions to attack if she gets too close. She sees no indication whatsoever that any of these dogs are or were ever domesticated.

The others seem unsure what to do about the dogs and the body. Drest picks up a rock and tosses it at the figure in the sand, hitting it squarely but causing no movement.

One of the dogs bites into the carcass and starts laboriously dragging it away from the area you are currently in.

Valkrina

It goes back to my first thought of why interrupt the wild dogs feeding on a cadaver. I think we should keep walking towards the city.

Xenos nods in agreement with Valkrina

"Now we've had a closer look I agree it's not worth further effort,. We should let these mutts have their meal, the bloody corpse might attract other creatures and keep them from disturbing us."

"Yeeah. Let's go. Let the dogs eat. We already saw what we could." He leaves with the rest of the group.

The Desert Wasteland

The group decides to leave the corpse to the dogs instead of creating any unnecessary trouble for themselves.

A few hours later, they arrive at the outskirts of Xambaala, luckily still a few hours before sundown. It appears they have three choices on how to enter the city.

They could walk out to the shoreline where a high ridge of sand runs along the shore, leading to an area beyond where the docks are located. Several boats can be seen in that area, both large and small, and many people mill around the area loading cargo and doing other chores.

A second choice would be to walk around the abandoned outer portion of the city, Xenos knows this area is called the Old City. From where you stand, you can see a trail or road well off in the distance that must run between Xambaala and the capitol city-state of Yithorium, several miles inland. You could take that road directly into the city gates.

The quickest choice would be to simply walk directly in from where you are now. Right through the Old City. This area is basically neglected by the affluent members of Xambaala, partially buried under years of the ever creeping desert sands that have reclaimed entire city blocks in some places. Xenos knows that the slave caste uses some of the old abandoned buildings of the Old City for homes and apartments, living there in squalor while the more prominent dwellers of Xambaala turn a blind eye to their misfortune and suffering.

Will all three routes get us to the city gates/inside before it gets dark?

"Yes. Docks are fine with me too. That abandonned area looks like the sort of place we could get into trouble." He points at the Old City.

Xenos considers the options and nods when the docks are mentioned

"Agreed, the docks. If there are problems with the slaves then there could be trouble heading through the Old City, and if that delays us we could be stuck outside after dark with the undead."

Tuurma

"Yeah. The crewmembers or passengers from the boat I came in might be there as well. So don't be alarmed if there's action. If something comes up I'll settle it there and then."

She raises her eyebrows real quick and then scratches her chin.

"Let's go."

She throws something in her mouth, or maybe yawns, and starts chewing.

Valkrina

Is a little confused by Tuurma and abandoning the ship only to walk through the desert to arrive in the docks where said ship might be. Why not stay on the ship.

Also she thinks whatever ongoing antagonism the tall warrior has with ex-crew, it shouldn't involve us.

Anyway, she puts the odd thoughts to the back of her mind as she looks for places to get cheap food.

Entering The City

Deciding that their best approach into Xambaala will be to walk the sea’s shoreline and enter the wide open docks area, the group makes their approach into the city. Though not well versed with this particular location, Xenos has been here before and remembers a few establishments that he visited upon his last stay here.

He tells his companions about the obvious places they will see or hear about, (the numbered list under the Maps thread) pointing out the magnificent statue of Helios above his sprawling temple and the vastly popular fighting arena they can make out on the distant skyline. Seeing the decorated towers and opulent mansions sticking up out of the center of the city gives promise that there is more to this city than it’s rough outer exterior.

This will end your trip into the city, but if there is any last actions you want to take beforehand, this is the time and place for that. If not, the action will continue in the Docks area here: https://www.unseenservant.us/forum/view ... 33#p622533
