Ironguard: Citadel background and information.

#1 Post by Spearmint »

Ironguard Motte: Settlement information:

please read this to familiarise yourself with the town.

Players arriving in Ironguard

please date your arrival in town and use the general or specific location threads while in the citadel.

The Citadel of Ironguard is located on the eastern edge of the Blackened Forest and a few miles north of the Old Dwarf Bridge which spans the slow flowing River Moorwash. Ironguard is the largest settlement in the Duchy of Aerik and straddles the arable farmland steppes to the east and forested north with the frontier wilderness of the infamous Barrow Moor to the southwest.

The Citadel is ringed by a high stone wall, within whose bounds live upwards of 3,000 multi-cultural residents crowded into low town shanty huts, tenement slums, pretty whitewashed cottages or neat stone built villas depending on social status and wealth.

At the far side, built upon a large motte and commanding a view over all, is a small Keep; the ancestral home of Duke Kell Ironguard. Here are barracks and the Duchy Mint.

The Citadel has all the facilities and services one would expect in terms of tavern and hostelries, trades and merchants, places of worship and study.

The citadel is policed by a mixture of regular army and conscript militia. Unlike Helix which is generally considered a 'sanctuary' in terms of the campaign, actions in Ironguard may have real consequences for player behaviour. Notwithstanding the usual tavern fisticuffs and rough housing in back street alleyways, generally the location is peaceful. With an influx of hundreds of adventurers, sidearms are routinely carried though a lot of locations might check in your weapons at the front porch.

The largest buildings apart from the Keep belong to the Church of St Ygg (Overseen by Bishop Blowers and his ministerial colleagues) and to the Collegiate Arcanium, a place of wizard learning, spell research and scholarly knowledge. The college has a large though antiquated library of historical times. It also serves as the Chapel for Arcantryl.

There is a Temple to Silvanus, which also houses an embassy of the Elven community and the base of operations for the Silvanus Inquisition (a bounty hunting group focused on eliminating lycanthrope afflicted were-folk).

A Shrine to Cromm Cruach is located in the low town area of the city. Followers of Herne tend to congregate outside the citadel.

The Silver Standard Merchant Caravan company has a large trade depot here. It organises weekly schedules of guarded wagons to locations nearby, moving people, goods, minerals and food as supply and demand dictate.

There are several taverns, ranging from spit and sawdust seedy saloons, common alehouses and upmarket wineries and gin distilleries.

Peregrine Falcon Tavern.

The tavern is a large stone detached property opposite the Old Market. It has a couple of bar areas and runs a fine rural carvery, with speciality dishes of pheasants, rabbit and other game meats. Run by Mdm Laramie.

It also has a private members room and hosts a faction of the local rangers corps.

The Last Dance:
Signpost: a dwarf with a noose around his neck balancing on an overturned barrel,

Warehouse quarters. Run by the Costners' clan. Ness Costner is rumoured to be a backstreet black market entrepreneur.

The Royal Halberdiers
Sign post of crossed weapons by a Keep. The
tavern is close to the Keep main gate and is commonly known as 'the Royal'. A rough house of mercenary types. Run by Ardvark.

Desert Orchid
Signpost. Flower with purple blossoms and vines growing in a sandy environment.

Not so much a tavern as a higher class hotel with pianist and crooners entertaining the bourgeois in the noble district.

Red Dragon
Signpost. A red dragon obviously.
In the markets area. Had several tenant landlords. Most recent a halfling family trying to make good.

The Sphinx and Naga.
Signpost. A lion faced winged Sphinx sitting with his paws on top of a snake like creature made of bones with a reptilian skull that drools venom.

Based in the residential district close to the Collegiate. Run by a clan of dwarves who migrated from the Moon Peaks. Not much is known of them, they seem to have adopted untraditional practices and beliefs at odds to common MoradinIan orthodoxy.

as necessary, I will edit this page with increasing information.
