II. The Hole in the Oak
Re: II. The Hole in the Oak
Buzar
Hearing the talk about the river and heading forward from their present location, Buzar gives a polite cough. "Umm... Since a river would make noise, we might want to turn around and go back in the opposite direction from here. Heading to the left of where we came in, the ground turns sandy and there is a sound coming from that direction that was getting louder. Was it water rushing by, I cannot say for certain but it was definitely getting louder as I approached. Whichever way you want to go is good with me, I think we need to all be agreeing on the direction."

Re: II. The Hole in the Oak
Haelan considers the suggestions. "My opinion is that we shouldn't be wishy-washy in our goals. We chose this path to find the source of light (and we have) and to find more information about the hooved creatures living here. We already cut through the roots leading here, our presence is either known or will be found out soon. I suggest we don't turn our back to this area."

Rawani
"Lets scout further ahead." She moves down and looks north (3).

Re: II. The Hole in the Oak
Progress
Not wanting to turn their backs on the direction they originally sought to pursue, the group presses forward to explore the current options.
Alcoves
The first passage (#2) continues north, bending slightly to the left. The walls of this passage are coated with green moss which emit a warm, green light.
What appear to be two small alcoves in the right wall appear after maybe 30-feet:
Before continuing down any particular path, the group explores a bit further.
Archway
Unlike any of the previous tunnels encountered so far, the walls, floor, and comfortable 10-foot ceiling of this second passage to the north are made entirely of white, stone blocks.
The width of this stone passage narrows from 5-feet to approximately 3-feet, and the ceiling dips from 10-feet to approximately 8-feet, when a stone archway with a rounded top exists maybe 30-40 feet distant.
The passage continues beyond this archway.
Pillar
Even further down your current corridor, the passage appears to widen into a natural cavern. The width of this cavern gradually doubles -- from 10-feet to at least 20-feet -- and the ceiling quickly rises to a height of at least 30-feet.
The ammonia stench is strongest in this direction, and the floor looks damp.
A rocky pillar, rising from floor to ceiling, maybe 35 or 40-feet in:

Re: II. The Hole in the Oak
Stopping just before the archway, Rawani gains limited visibility into the area beyond.
Chamber
Maybe 10 feet beyond the archway, the stone hallway opens into what appears to be a larger room constructed from the same stone blocks.
Along the left wall, there appears to be a series of three statues.
To the right, there appears to be a side passage -- or maybe two -- leading off in that direction.

Getting Organized
While still in the relative safety of the current stone hall they're in, the group rearranges itself into a new marching order, with Holliss taking the lead; followed by Rawani, Zan, Haelan, and Buzar, in order.
After confirming everyone is ready, Holliss prepares to lead the way.
No additional details about the area beyond are known at this time.

Haelan holds the light source he borrowed aloft. "Beware the sacrilege!" he warns.
Re: II. The Hole in the Oak
Archway
Rawani elects to move first, and as she passes through the archway, she feels the stone floor depress slightly with her last footfall.
Click!
The scout feels her foot press into floor slightly.
Overhead, the sound of metal groaning as it scraps against itself is heard.
Woosh!
A thin blade, centered in the archway, drops down towards the acrobat from the right-hand side.
The cautionary mentions about traps, and sacrilege, coming from behind are too late.

Blade Trap
After being triggered, the thin blade slices down from the ceiling in an arc, stopping only once it strikes a solid object -- in the form of Rawani.
Despite her best efforts, the acrobat is unable to react quickly enough to avoid the released blade and feels a sharp, cutting pain on nearly her right side, from shoulder to waist, as the blade easily cuts through her muscular form.
Instinctively, the acrobat pushes the blade away from her, prying it free from her body at the expense of cutting her hands, but her blood continues to spill from where she was struck.
Rawani feels lightheaded.
Acrobat Down
The rest of the party watches from behind as the fearless acrobat falls forward, face-first.
Blood begins to pool onto the white stone floor beyond the archway where the acrobat now lies unmoving.

Re: II. The Hole in the Oak
Haelan stares in shock. Taking quick inventory, he sadly has nothing long enough (rope or pole) to expedite the reclamation of Rawani's body. He mutters a quick prayer. "Rao, guide this comrade to your font of knowledge, may this one learn all that they missed in this poor and short life. May our wisdom grow, for we paid a price all too steep."
Re: II. The Hole in the Oak
Sir Ramic
The distraction and shock caused by the deadly blade trap persists... until the clinking of chain armor is heard approaching from behind the group.
"Here, let me give you a hand with that," a male, short in stature and carrying a sword and spear, offers from behind the group.
This new adventurer identifies himself as Sir Ramic.
Rawani
Together, with the blade trap seemingly disarmed, the group manages to collect the fallen acrobat and pull her to the "safe" side of the archway... leaving a trail of pooled blood in her wake.
As macabre as the action may be, the acrobat's backpack is collected from off her back and examined.
It contains:
- 50-feet Rope
12 Iron Spikes
1 Waterskin
7 Days of Iron Rations
6 Flasks of Oil
1 Tinderbox
Haelan, already holding Rawani's lantern, is assumed to have taken ownership of it.
Trap
While the group is pillaging the pack of their fallen companion and performing any last rites, a loud thunk sound is heard, and the blade trap begins to slowly swing back in the direction from which it fell, seemingly in an attempt to reset itself.
Chamber
Otherwise, still beyond the archway, the stone hallway opens into what appears to be a larger room constructed from the same stone blocks, with statues and exits to the left and right respectively.
