[OOC] Forward Lounge
Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
Fuel venting seems to be the (militarily imperative) horse we have to put before our "contact / rescue mission" cart regarding the crew/occupants of the Cruiser. I'm not at all trying to "avoid the scenario" but I don't think we can safely achieve what we want without doing things in that order. I suspect one of the things we really don't want is a full on fight with the Master's faction.
I agree with The Bindoner's last above and venting the fuel seems to have the merit of avoiding an assault on the cargo bay.

I concur on both points
Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
I agree to. I don't fancy a fight out on the hull of the ship.
Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
Absolutely. It's not actually a case of "not being soldiers" here but actually "not being marines/pirates". We're (mostly) missing all the zero G and vac suit skills as well as the combat skills!

That's why Taheri is along (Vacc suit 1, laser rifle 1), plus actual experience.

Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
To be honest I'm a little confused as to who's gone to vent the fuel.
Am I right that it's just Zhenja, Taheri and Foix?

Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
Vee, Anna, Josephine, and Hennesy, with Grimaud standing watch over them, are all back at the hatch. I think Rock is still there, as well.
PO Reddy is staying close to Anne, so that does leave Foix, Taheri, and Zhenya to check the scoop.

Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
Events aboard now seem to have spiralled way beyond anyone's control and whether we could have influenced matters (without getting a front row seat in a private war) is now a moot point.
If anyone wants to tag Foix out of slamming the hatch on these lunatics and leaving them to their (un)civil war please feel free to step in!

Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
Now that the meson gun is out of fuel, I suppose once we have the kids away we could try and persuade the Birach navy to temporary hang back and send troops on board to deal with the Master.

Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
We could swing things by getting involved. Give Mother a hand and make a friend.
Zhenya is prone by habit and profession to cultivate allies. Sentiment also impels her to aid the plucky underdog.
Which is countered by her recently developed hard shell. That tells her to let the two sides wear each other out, finish off the weakest and dictate terms to the survivor.

Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
We could try and get an idea of how many troops the Master has. Then we can determine whether our handful of plucky space farers would actually make any difference.
Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
That has, quite possibly, been a flawed assumption on my behalf but my mind is boggled by the scale here. A Lightning Class cruiser (60Ktons) has 625 crew. Even taking a few off and dividing in half that's about 250 per faction! Even halved again for a skeleton crew and we're still at 100 a side - no small punch up!
We could attack the winner but if we want to be on the winning side and/or save lives we need to pitch in now.
The only side we can conveniently join (or immediately attack) is Mother's faction. I don't find them all that sympathetic but they're not as overtly hostile as the other lot.

Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
The Mother faction communicated with us and has shown no open hostility. The Master faction shot holes in our pinnace. Revenge alone puts us on Mothers side. Holes must be shot in things the Master needs.
Re: numbers. Presumably lack of resources and ongoing conflict have capped the population, but the total doesn't matter - we only need to overcome the ones between us and the objective, not everyone they have. The Mother/Master conflict is pinning down a large proportion of both sides I should think. Our intervention at the schwerpunkt might be quite effective.

Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
Where did they last restock? If they are using a closed system, then their factions are a lot smaller. If they didn't they are screaming through their supplies at a great rate.Tiglath wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 8:10 pm That has, quite possibly, been a flawed assumption on my behalf but my mind is boggled by the scale here. We've seen grass, heard about "work". Seems reasonable to assume they've got a decent self-sustaining ecosystem going - so long as the power lasts.

Re: [OOC] Forward Lounge
It does look like there is very little fuel left on the ship. Taheri would be inclined to sit tight and let systems failure do the work for us.
