Ch. 2: Finally Inside the Tomb
Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
McCloud still searching pews on west side of Chapel, back row to front in order.
Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
Urdak's familiar harrumphing and beard-scratching is accompanied by a sneeze in which he blows a disgusting snotbubble.
Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
Skarlos' spell reveals that the altar and the front row of pews are trapped. (marked in red on map)
Quinn can see that the circle is an inch in diameter. The slot beneath it looks to be about the right size to accept a ring.
McCloud opens the lid of the back pew on the west side of the chapel. He finds it to be filled with thousands of silver coins.

Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
Skarlos makes it clear to everyone where the traps are.
"McCloud are you wiling to see if you can find the traps?"
"McCloud are you wiling to see if you can find the traps?"
Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
"Hmm...coins....thousands of them...", McCloud will pull out a huge fistfull of coins and scatter them down the aisle. "Knew there'd be an offering of some kind in this place!".
McCloud will slowly work his way down the pews in order checking each and then get to the final 'trapped' pew at the front. He'll have a good look around the hinges and bases before opening anything to try and determine the nature of the trap, any carvings on the pews to indicate anything...evil eye, glyphs, etc?

Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
Hmmmph, Urdak grunts, almost as if he's thinking. Wat was zat, sommat 'bout a offrin' a hoop a magic metal? It's apparent this much thought is painful to the Dwarf, and he shakes his head slightly.
Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
The next 2 rows contain thousands of electrum and gold pieces. Maybe the trapped row contains platinum?Stirling wrote:"Hmm...coins....thousands of them...", McCloud will pull out a huge fistfull of coins and scatter them down the aisle. "Knew there'd be an offering of some kind in this place!".

You find no carvings or marks of any kind on the first row of pews. When you examine the hinges you can see that a piece of the hinge would rotate inward if the lid were opened. This could very likely be the trigger.
Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
Skiiratch moves closer to the rest of the group his wand still at the ready.
Razluki and Tix, still standing alone near the entrance, begin to talk. In unison they both turn to the group and cry out "I have a message for you...PRAY FOR DEATH." They convulse and drop to the ground as beetles, crickets, millipedes, spiders, and every other insect you can image begin to pour from their ears, nose, and mouth. Within seconds the swarm has stripped the flesh from their bones leaving only the skeletons and equipment. The bugs scatter disappearing into cracks in the wall and floor.

Quinn retrieves Tix's magic ring from the pile of bones and equipment and inserts it into the slot in the wall.Bhart wrote: Quinn can see that the circle is an inch in diameter. The slot beneath it looks to be about the right size to accept a ring.
Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
AAAAAA!! BUGZ! Urdak does a brief two-step dance and gives himself the once-over with his hands ensuring he is not the next victim of a swarm.
Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
"Urrgh" exclaims McCloud as a horrible grimace crosses his face seeing the demise of fellow party members. "And I thought that we would only be food for the critters and worms after we fell..!".
McCloud will bag up a sack full of gold coins, his backpack is fairly empty so could reasonably take several hundred.
"There seems to be some trigger 'cause and effect' mechanism on this final pew"... "I'm happy to attempt to disarm it and see what the 'gods' have instore for us, " McCloud says, thinking of perhaps a little more reward for his labours...

If you stuff your pack to capacity you could get about 300gp.Stirling wrote:"Urrgh" exclaims McCloud as a horrible grimace crosses his face seeing the demise of fellow party members. "And I thought that we would only be food for the critters and worms after we fell..!".

Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
The ring disappears into the slot with a metallic clunk. There is a grinding noise from the wall as the stone block slowly sinks into the floor revealing a dark passage beyond.Mondego wrote:Quinn retrieves Tix's magic ring from the pile of bones and equipment and inserts it into the slot in the wall.Bhart wrote: Quinn can see that the circle is an inch in diameter. Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
Skiiratch investigates the skeleton near the arch. He calls out to the group "Hey guys look at this. This fellow is pointing at the archway. Maybe he was trying to send a message before he died, that the arch is the way out?"
Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
"The words from the poem have not led us astray yet. I suggest we investigate this passage," Quinn suggests, gesturing towards the newly opened door.Bhart wrote:Skiiratch investigates the skeleton near the arch. Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
McCloud will continue with the treasure/trapped pews.
"Perhaps one of you holy men can investigate the altar. It radiates a 'trap' but you might get find some 'religious book, icon, to give us some more info on this place and old Acer fella", McCloud whispers the name in hushed tones.
"I would suggest that we go not further into the tomb but either rest up here...there are at least beds aplenty on these coffin pews, (and for us spell casters a chance to mediate some new spells), or find some way back to the entrance and cash in these coins and return with some late comers to the party..?"

Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
Skarlos stows the scrolls in a scroll case in his pack and puts the phylactery on. He will then examine the altar in more detail without touching it to see if there is anything obvious that could be a trap or if he recognises any of the accoutrements belonging to a particular deity.
Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
Urdak, examining the new opening, speaks up. Mayhap Ae cn spiken zis door open, so's it dont close n we needn 'nuther ring.
Re: Finally Inside the Tomb
Sorry for the delay it was a very busy week.
Do you try to spike it open?tkrexx wrote:Urdak, examining the new opening, speaks up. Mayhap Ae cn spiken zis door open, so's it dont close n we needn 'nuther ring.
You find no signs of a deity or a trap. It's just a plain translucent blue block that glows with an inner light.saalaria wrote:Skarlos stows the scrolls in a scroll case in his pack and puts the phylactery on. What do you mean exactly? Which pews are you opening? Your backpack is full and you have a large sack that will hold another 400 coins.Stirling wrote:McCloud will continue with the treasure/trapped pews.
Skiiratch nods in agreement and moves toward the open door. He stops for a moment to have a closer look at the altar when Skarlos approaches it.Mondego wrote:
