Chat functionality?
Chat functionality?
Did you just add this?
I could see it being pretty cool alternative to Discord etc.

Re: Chat functionality?
No we've had it for a while. It is pretty cool, we've even run a game or two that way. But it never really took off. But the one or two chat games run went successfully IIRC.
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Re: Chat functionality?
Less bells and whistles than Discord, but I kind of like things streamlined. Plus I believe you can roll dice right in chat.
What more do you need!
I've enjoyed games I've played in Skype just as much as the ones I've played on Roll20. Okay that tangent over, I'm terrible at chat games... I've tried here as well at Dragonsfoot.

Re: Chat functionality?
Where is the chat button? I didn't know is was possible.
Re: Chat functionality?
The file will probably be huge since I'm responding from my phone, but it is the leftmost option up near the 'search' and control panel.
Re: Chat functionality?
Cool thanks. By the way Dave your new solo game looks interesting, I plan on following along. I need to come up with something to run my wife through since our normal group isn't getting together and she doesn't play online so it needs to be a DM with 1 player.
Re: Chat functionality?
I actually ran a live chat game using the built-in functionality, here:
Honestly, it was a lot of fun. A LOT(!) of typing for the DM, though. I'm sure it'd be more manageable if you did some preparation ahead of time (e.g. typed out planned boxed text ahead of time).
I'd be willing to try it again. Definitely.

Re: Chat functionality?
I'm pretty sure the post linked to in that Tweet I found has a bunch of 1:1 options as well.Rex wrote:By the way Dave your new solo game looks interesting, I plan on following along. When I'm back home and not on my phone I could better help locate some options.
Re: Chat functionality?
I already started looking at them, headed to work soon so it will have to wait till I get home later.
Re: Chat functionality?
Rex, I know this isn't exactly you weren't exactly looking for, but Mike Shea (Sly Flourish) is running Enrique Bertran (NewbieDM) through Dragon of Icespire Peak in a 1:1 game, which they're apparently podcasting. The third session was just released today:
I haven't listened to it (yet), but I'm guessing, since that adventure was not written as a solo adventure, they might spend a bit of time in the first episode discussing their plans for adopting the game to a 1:1 format.
Anyway, I thought it might help.

Re: Chat functionality?
I take this back. I own the adventure (on D&D Beyond), but haven't read it yet, so I just went to check it out and saw this:dmw71 wrote:...I'm guessing, since that adventure was not written as a solo adventure...
That might be a possibility for you.Overview wrote:You can run Dragon of Icespire Peak for as few as one player or as many as five players.
Re: Chat functionality?
Thanks Dave, I was looking at getting the Essentials box anyway so that might be perfect.
Re: Chat functionality?
does the chat save anywhere? or is there a way to download it?
Re: Chat functionality?
I don't think there's a way to download it. I remember, when I tried to run a chat game, I just made sure to copy-and-paste the transcript before signing out: here.wolfpack wrote:does the chat save anywhere? or is there a way to download it?
Re: Chat functionality?
Yup that's how they do it on other forums as well, cut and paste: CTL-A, CTR-C then paste it onto a WORD doc or whatever. I think it's the only way.

Re: Chat functionality?
Smart to put the chat into a collapsible quote.dmw71 wrote:I don't think there's a way to download it. "Sir, our research shows that the bird is equal to or greater than the word."
Re: Chat functionality?
for the chat dice roller, is there a way to make the rolls total? for example if rolling 3d6 can i make it total for 3-18 damage?
Re: Chat functionality?
You might need to play around with this.wolfpack wrote:for the chat dice roller, is there a way to make the rolls total? for example if rolling 3d6 can i make it total for 3-18 damage?
I searched "rolls 3d" in the transcript from my game and it would make three rolls, but list the results individually and not sum them.
I'm not sure if the roller in the chat handles calculations?
Re: Chat functionality?
what about addiitons? like 1d6+1? when I try it drops the additive
Re: Chat functionality?
It might not perform any arithmetic.wolfpack wrote:what about addiitons? like 1d6+1? when I try it drops the additive
You can perform those calculations manually, or use the actual die roller from the site and just paste those results.
