actually it just merely states in the monster description that it keeps it's weapons well maintained cleaned and polished. So I made it so as Picard would say.

Wouldn't Elanriel's attack simply go under the coup de grace rule? Automatic kill, since the guy is defenseless and there aren't other enemies that could defend him either. It's in the PHB, Combat Modifiers table.

would Weston be able to use his sling against the beetle, or is there too much going on?

The sling yes you have over the ferrets and the beetle. Heck probably could even aim over Egon's head and hit the thing.
Alver he only sliced it's nose off and it is awake this round so no sorry not going coupe de grace on this. Sorry. I am doing double dmg to the thing and using the crit chart per his roll he sliced the monsters nose off. Significant dmg and yeah that will surely wake anyone up and tick them off.
