Hagaseth's Tower of Wizardry

#1 Post by Enoch »

A stone tower rises nearly a hundred feet over Idmi d'dum. Appearing almost overnight, the tower was built from the rock of Idmi d'dum's quarry by an earth elemental. The tower stands adjacent to the old artificer's forge, a solid round building of mortared stone, now re-purposed into a sort of entry hall to the main tower proper.

"It seems a thing not made by the craft of Men, but riven from the bones of the earth in the ancient torment of the hills."
— J.R.R. Tolkien, The Two Towers

The tower is the new home of the Archmagus Hagaseth, wizard of ancient times recently reawakened. His former quarters hopelessly compromised by recent events, Hagaseth relocated here. He has gathered with him a number of apprentices who serve as combination pupils and servants, according to apprenticeship traditions as old as time.

In light of the discussions about magical items, I'm striking this post out.
Escorted by two dwarfs, Lord Commander Bremen cross through the stable door-cum-portal to Hagaseth's workshop. Bremen takes the measure of the mage and the workspace before starting. He turns to Hagaseth and nods. I've heard you're a wizard of some repute. I wonder if you'd create items. For an appropriate fee, of course. I am Bremen, the Lord Commander of the Knights of Baudhil and the White Tower. I have Vassals and Lieutenants I trust, and my knights are steadfast in the face of danger. But one can never be too careful. I'm looking for an item to increase the loyalty of those under my command. Preferably a permanent effect.

Additionally, having just returned from slaying the ancient dragon, Scatha, Duegar and his craftsdwarfs are transporting the skeleton to the White Tower for permanent display. I could have something built to house it from the elements, but hiding a trophy like that behind walls is a sin. I was wondering if you have a spell to do the same without the need of encasing such a glorious trophy, allowing me to leave it in the courtyard.

"The most powerful wizard in the North Marches is a very busy man," says the apprentice, barely looking up from the tome she is studying. "What is your business with him?"

The apprentice sighs and points to a carved wooden sign on the wall. You're certain it wasn't there a moment ago.

I'm still discussing with Marullus what the rules for magic item creation will be, but at least there are some scrolls and spells for sale now. Sorry about the delay.

Roybarb

'Roo' (not 'Barbie'), is apprenticed to Hagaseth and acting as a 'gopher' for his studies. After a period of intense study and boredom, the elf maiden is tasked with delivering various written thesis and advisory documents from one dwarf hold to another. She departs Idmi d'dum for a short journey with a caravan of dwarven merchants, masons and smiths to Verdon.

After delivering the scrolls, she has been advised, nay coerced into enquiring of the plans to scout the mage ruins and help recover any artifacts or written tomes for further study.
