Re: EVENT: The Fall Festival

#81 Post by Marullus »

Wrapping this up retroactively since there was prize money at stake.

The archery competition, with its generous donations from Baxtaw the Elf, maintains much fervor and interest. The first two rounds are held and the third round is cancelled due to the range of the clerics and the clear leads already established. "Too bad about the 'Flame of the North,' perhaps those embers have lost their sizzle," comments Sir Branson, giving her an honestly pitying look as she misses broadly and then breaks her bowstring twice trying to shoot at all.

The winners are declared - there is loud cheering for Sir Stantz, who wins first place. Horribly scarred but a hometown favorite, his score of all bullseyes can't be beaten and he takes the large sack of platinum offered for the prize (2600gp). The underdog wins over the crowd, Sir Piers, taking second place with his sling! He takes his small sack graciously (1000gp). Third place goes to Akaara (500gp), Guardswoman of Gaul.
Archery Contest - 1st - 2500gp (from Baxtaw), 100gp (from Bremen); 2nd - 1000gp (from Baxtaw); 3rd - 500gp (from Baxtaw).
Lug - round 1, 4 points
Baxtaw - round 1, 1 point, round 2, fumble [withdraws]
Akaara (Amistad's vassal) - round 1, 8pts; round 2, 8pts
Stantz (Bremen's vassal) - round 1, 12pts, round 2, 12 pts
Billy, the horse boy (peasant) - round 1, 6 pts
Sir Piers - round 1, 8 points, round 2, 10 pts
Foxy - round 1, 4pts, round 2, 0 pts

Then to finish out round #2:
Foxy, round 2. [1d20] = 4[1d20] = 1[1d20] = 1
Lug - round 2 [1d20] = 14[1d20] = 11[1d20] = 11
Billy - round 2 [1d20] = 15[1d20] = 12[1d20] = 12
The melee competition is fierce and contentious with the skill-at-arms of these mighty warriors on display for all to see. So many potent warriors, strong of arm and with skill to be twice as fast as normal men in the timing and precision of their blows, the crowd is utterly impressed. Lug's strength almost avails him (and he's the clear crowd favorite) but it is the deft blade of Baxtaw which takes the prize. (100gp)
Melee Combat - 1st - 100gp (from Bremen)
Baxtaw
Amistad
Lug
Sir Dirk Branson

Single roll-off:
Baxtaw [1d20] = 18 Amistad [1d20] = 15 Lug [1d20] = 14 Dirk [1d20] = 10
The Joust pits Foxy O'Hare against the local champion of the White Tower. Whispers say it is Sir Branson she wishes to skewer and the ribald talk says that's already been done the other way around, from his tales. The mounted passes are a bit underwhelming after the might of the joust, but it is Foxy who is a clear winner over Sir Killian Haverford. She takes home the 100gp prize.
Joust - 1st - 100gp (from Bremen)
Foxy O'Hare, Flame of the North
Sir Killian Haverford of the Vales

Single roll-off:
Joust: Foxy [1d20] = 5 Killian [1d20] = 2
The stories told were frightening and fearful, just the hallowmas tales for the coming winter. Both contenders were well received, but the acclaimation of the crowd determines the winner to be Godric of the Lumber Mill (100gp).
Story Telling - 1st - 100gp (from Bremen)
Godric (Amistad's vassal) 15-11= +4
Tocen (Foxy's vassal) - 10-7= +3
The clerical melee is the most novel, and has strong support from the Baudhic faithful who watch on. There are plenty of sermonic statements as they bludgeon each other - in the end it is Lord Commander Bremen who judges that Sir Piers is the winner, respectfully presenting him with the grail cup full of platinum coins (300gp).
Clergy-Only Melee - prizes TBD: 1st - Grail Cup (from Isaachar),100 gp (from Father Clauson), and 200 gp (from Piers); Last - Scroll Against undead (from Able)
Isaachar
Ablesforth the Wayfarer
Father Clauson
Sir Piers Garrett, of Garrett's Abbey

Issachar [1d20] = 2 Piers [1d20] = 19 Able [1d20] = 19 Clauson [1d20] = 14
