"Careful," says Ulster, his thoughts turning for a moment to the people around him. "The jungle, though beautiful, may be full of deadly dangers if that strangling vine is any sign of what's down there."

Dieter - Mage

Indeed... who would have thought. Taking a step forward and smelling the air. Clearly, Ulster is right, the fauna will attack. Our advantage is knowing this.... do we explore and see how dangerous or attempt to destroy from a distance? I, would opt for the later but defer to current company.

From this distance, it is difficult to tell for sure but certainly there are familiar looking plants: trees and ground vegetation of familiar archetypes and flowering plants that don't (from this distance) look too out of place. That said, even the strangle vines already encountered looked like kudzu the druid might have encountered in his travels: the leaves and coloration not so different as to cause alarm.

The ecosystem does appear to be stable, through by what means is a mystery.

One thing that Ulster does note, although it takes a little while for him to figure out what is wrong, is that there are no sounds emanating from the area below: not water sounds from the lake, nor sounds of animal cries, or even that of rustling leaves even though he can see the occasional bough sway.

"Okay, that's just weird," says Ulster. "Nature's noisy. Why isn't this?"

He shrugs. "Let's check out what's around the balcony before heading down, okay?"

Castinus - human thief

Castinus, having just put his sword away, instinctively reaches for it again as the strangeness of the scene sinks in. He gives a smile at Grimes' reaction. Ulster's right. Let's, uh, stay up here and check things out first before, um, venturing down.

The party starts heading clockwise around the balcony. Where the balcony turns, you find an interesting device attached to the railing.

You peek into the open door, passing a closed door with a violet keycard on the way. This is apparently a lounge of some sort. There are tables and chairs, loungers, couches, amusement devices, and so forth. There are some bones, but there are no skeletons.

"Purple," Castinus notes. "I don't think we've seen that color before. Let's keep looking around out here first, though." He'll pick up the device attached to the railing, and see if he can figure out how it works.

Dieter - Mage

Dieter will also mess with one of the devices.

Algrim leaves the devices alone and stands guard.

Deiter finds that the device makes things afar look closer. He can adjust how close with a special switch on the side. He makes the mistake of looking at a companion and is nearly bowled over seeing the large nose and mustache hairs in the viewer!

Castinus - human thief

Castinus laughs at Dieter's reaction to the large nose and mustache hairs, until he realizes they belong to him. Hey, point that thing somewhere else, would ya? What do you see out there?, he adds, pointing into the small jungle.

If Dieter (or someone else) takes Castinus' advice, please let me know where in particular you want to look.

Algrim will attempt to look through the odd device towards that island in the middle of the garden area surrounded by the indoor moat? "Eh lemme take a look." the dwarf says curiosity and interest finally striking him.

Ulster patiently waits his turn, but it's clear he's anxious to get an up close look at the plants below from afar.

The small lake or pond has a bridge leading to an islet with a strange formation on it. You can see fauna as well as flora from here.
