Mackay Dam, near the Town of Chilly, Idaho; approx. 9:42 AM, Saturday, 20 June 1987

Billy saw the mass of 7 or 8 soldiers charging his way as he peeked over the ridge and he dropped his hunting rifle and pulled out his Father's trusty 1911 .45 pistol. Switching off the safety, he put a pair of slugs into a Russian's torso, dropping him and then he dropped down himself as fire from several AKs buzzed all around him; none connecting though.....

Jenny held her little Beretta .32 pistol at the stairway waiting for any Russian soldiers to come up while she talked Sheena into reloading the RPK light machinegun. Sheena took a deep breath, looked down the sights at the mass of Soviet troops perhaps 100 or so yards away and pulled the trigger. The gun bucked into her shoulder, causing her to gasp/grunt in surprise and while her long burst didn't hit anyone, she DID have the pleasure of seeing several troops drop to the ground to take cover....and then a moment later, run away in the opposite direction from the rest of the freedom fighters. Jenny meanwhile let out a sigh of relief as no troops came tearing up the steps....

Raffy took a deep breath and then popped up over the ridge, firing a pair of bursts from his M-16; hitting one Soviet solider with enough force to take him off his feet, though he missed with the second burst. Return fire buzzed over the young Latino's head and he dropped to the ground with a curse....

Saul took out his Uzi submachinegun; took a deep breath and let it out at the same time that he popped up from behind the ridge and let loose with a long spray that dropped 3 Russian soldiers before 'Quick Silver' dropped back down behind cover, avoiding the poorly-aimed return fire and a moment later the veteran soldier heard the distinct sound of men running away as fast as they could. Carefully taking a look over the ridge line, he saw the last 3 Russian troops racing away in a zig-zag pattern; heading for the temporary cover of the shot-out/shot-up vehicles they came in.....

Saul- Motions to Raffy and Billy to move left as he move right around the vehicles the Russians are hiding behind. He motions to Billy to use his rifle to take out any runners. he then motions to Jenny to have Sheena cover them with the RPK. He then low crawls out of sight best he can to right of the 3 Russians.

Jenny

"Nice work Sheena! Looks like they're running." She notices Saul's motions and figures out his plan. "Ok. Our friends are going to try and clean this up. Could you look out over at the trucks and give them some cover? Don't shoot my boys, now." Jenny says with a smile.

Billy Barstowe

The young rocker moves left around their cover, hoping to get off a shot or two at the retreating Russians.

Billy takes a deep breath, sights down his Deer Rifle, lets the breath go and strokes the trigger. BLAM! One of the escaping Russian soldiers suddenly throws his arms out wide and falls face first into the ground. He tries to rise for a second and then collapses in a non-moving heap on the ground....

Raffy races forward and holding his Rifle at the hip, lets loose with the remainder of his clip in a wide spray that cuts down the other two Soviet troops; leaving them bloody and bullet-riddled on the ground....

A long few moments pass and everyone slowly realizes that the fight is over.....relief kicks in and for the wounded.....pain.....

Everyone slowly makes their way to meet back up right outside the tower to discuss what to do next and how to best go about blowing up the dam.....

"Let's get that back hoe moving, all we gotta do is start the water flowing, it'll do the rest." Raffy says.

Billy will take up a position where he can watch through his scope in case the Russians return. I've got overwatch, unless you need me to give you a hand, Raffy.

Raffy moves down to the machine and climbs in, expecting the key to be in the ignition.

(OOC: Where I come from, keys are generally left in the equipment. Being a military thing, I'm guessing they are there.)

Jenny

"Nice work everyone! Now, let's get out of here as soon as we can." Jenny starts gathering weapons and supplies and piling them into the operational vehicle. She winces every so often as she tweaks her shoulder.

Mackay Dam, near the Town of Chilly, Idaho; approx. 10:00 AM to 11:30 PM, Saturday, 20 June 1987

Saul gets behind the driver's wheel of the deuce-and-a-half and drives Raffy over to the backhoe while Jenny and Sheena gather up a pile of weapons and Billy keeps a sharp-lookout; after everyone had been patched up by Jenny....

Soon, Sheena is keeping watch as Billy and Jenny gather the canoe filled with explosives and trudge it back to to the dam while Raffy works on the rusty backhoe; first clearing out an abandoned bird's nest from the cab and finally figuring out a way to 'hot wire' it enough to get it moving. He clumsily drives it over to the dam, where it runs out of gas; but luckily the fuel they brought on the canoe and a fortunate find of some drums in the back of the deuce-and-a-half get it back in working order.

While Raffy had never done anything like this before; it wasn't long before he got the hang of it and he was soon scooping out a deep 'pit' in the earthen dam and after several hours of doing so; Saul took a long look and nodded his head to signal that it was deep enough for the explosives....

Saul then took over, taking the explosives and positioning them JUST-SO to get best affect and then rigging the detonation cord and trailing it carefully over to a safe place a long distance away. By this time it was late afternoon and everyone gathered around as Saul flips the arming switch and raised the plunger, turning it as he does so and the red activation light comes on. Hen then plunges it down in one swift motion and a sudden clap of thunder and flash of light bursts forth from the dam. The earthen mound lurches and tons of gravel and dirt explode outward hundreds of feet into the air and a torrent of water is soon pouring through the massive open wound in the side of the dam. Erosion is rapidly taking effect as the dirt turns to mud and begins to wash away. It will be awhile before all the water in the Mackay reservoir is emptied, but already, the river is rising sharply and beginning to flood down towards Route 93. The band of Freedom Fighters smile at each other and they soon pile into the deuce and a half, driving CAREFULLY away and around from the flood zone.....

They soon were back with old Jeremiah and the surviving rebels that got out of Milner with them, including Billy's sister Beth. Jeremiah had a huge, ear-to-ear grin and some throat-searing homemade chili waiting for them and he told them what he had heard over the radio. "Them damn Ruskies are running around like jack-rabbits running from a pack of wolves! That water from the Dam you blew washed away them tanks and APCs along Route 93 like they was toys! The 1st Free Idaho Brigade used their canoes and rafts and what-not and floated away from the trap that you all sprang 'em from! WAY TO GO!"

He then turned to Beth and Billy and said; "Ma'am, I also got a special message to pass along to you...Kevin and Matt are doing just fine!" Beth was a happy combination of tears and laughter as the festive 'party' lasted deep into the night. While the Soviets may still be running the country....one little corner of the States was free....for a little while at least.....
