"Metal," observes Ulster. "I can make one of them wood, if we don't have any other way to open them."

Castinus gingerly puts down the rifle. "Sorry," he mutters with some embarrassment. "Now this I can do," he announces, taking the strange lock into his hand. He leans in to give the inner workings a listen.

Open locks: [1d100] = 95
Oc: Ugh! Got my mojo workin' but it just don't work on, um, this module...

"Step aside, Casty," Dandy says. He smashes the odd looking lock with Whelm.

Which lock? There are two: One on the chest and one on the locker.

Oh, right :). Well first the chest, then the locker.

Castinus fiddles with the lock on the chest but it is a design that is completely foreign to him and he soon is defeated. The Cleric of Belenus edges him aside and takes a whack with his mighty hammer. The lock remains locked (it's built tough) but the housing of the chest around the lock falls to the floor, itself defeated.

Opening the chest, you find 20 slate discs the size of a coin and 20 boxes. For the discs, one side is smooth and unmarked, the other side has a white, arced band, marked like a sundial with 5 lines. A taut thread rests on one of the lines. They would seem to insert into the weapons examined by Furuk and Dieter -- popping out the discs in those items, they appear to be similar but the "taut thread" is nearer the midpoint.

Image

The small "boxes" are lacquered and grooved as if they fit in something but nothing you've examined so far would carry such boxes. You have no visibility into their innards and there are no obvious ways to open it (other than another application of Dandy's hammer, perhaps).

Dieter - Mage

I might surmise the disc's hold... I am not sure what to call it, I am a scholar of magic and these items show no majick. They must hold some kind of force that is consumed when these items are used. The red box's I am not sure about...

Maybe we check this last lock? After that, perhaps we retire for a bit in this room? I don't think anything comes by here.

Grimes - Fighter

As the party examines the other lock, Grimes picks up one of the boxes and tries to see if it has some relationship to one of the items in the other racks (Perhaps a part of one of the weapon things?)

"Dunno," says Ulster. "Anyplace with this much stuff probably has someone checking on it."

"You going to bash the locker open?"

Castinus - human thief

Castinus scowls at Algrim's barb, mainly because it's true. He angrily swipes one of the disks, then tries to make sense of the writing.

Read languages: [1d100] = 93

Obviously, he doesn't. Stupid disks.

Castinus throws the disk over his shoulder than wanders off (not too far, of course), muttering about his castle, which he hopes to see one of these days. "Someday, I'll have servants who'll figure this stuff out for me. You'll see. You would have loved it, Shae. I would have treated you like a queen."
These are ghouls. They hang out in graveyards, they have long tongues, and they eat people.

Dandy whacks at the second lock. Again, the lock itself remains closed but the structure of the door is too weak for the job. The door swings open with the force of the blow.

A creature seems to reside within.

Image

It startles the dwarf, who tenses until he realizes that it isn't alive but some sort of unusual plate armor. The joints appear to be finely, if somewhat strangely, articulated and an oily, black, leather-like material may be seen at major joints. The armor appears to have been worked to create the illusion of a heavily muscled man. The great helm is unusual in that it has no openings, only a broad glass plate in the front with a piece of glass above this. There are strange plates and tubing at various points and large metal bosses seem to be placed randomly on the suit. On the back of the left hand is a rectangular metal box. From this comes a short projecting rod tipped with a cone-shaped red crystal or jewel. It would seem there must be a man inside, for the armor always stands erect although unmoving.

Dandy jumps back, startled. When the thing doesn't move, he relaxes. "Looks like some kind 'o strange metal golem," he says. "Not sure what might wake 'im up. we best be careful."

"Looks like armor to me, too," Castinus says in agreement. "Never did me much good in my line of work," though.

This not being his area expertise, Castinus hangs back.
