Re: Session 2: The Dwarven Monastery
Berry looks around at his companions after completing his morning rituals to the Lords of Life and Death, taking in just what motley band they are. He internally winces when he looks at Allric and Aoife, trying to think of ways to make amends to his elder and the woman he had done nothing but consistently offend while here.
He tries to take Allric asideMr. Allric, I'm very sorry if my delivery offends, but that's how I was trained, it's hard to know what was honest and what is marinated in hatred...

Re: Session 2: The Dwarven Monastery
Allric responds in low tones to Berry as they move cautiously down the hallway. "Recognition that some acts of your faith were... hateful, well that's a good first step. You have a more difficult task before you, however, so be mindful: What we find here in this temple is proof enough to justify the accusations your church has made, to enflame further acts of hate. Or, it may be enough to exonerate the innocent victims of acts already done." He pauses a moment, glancing askance at Aiofe. "The book you already carry, the finds which may lie ahead, are naught to many here but a few precious nights in a feather bed; it will be on you to judge what hands you're willing to sell this knowledge to."

Behold: MAP
The hall between the double doors is small and dimly lit. Very little light trickles in from outside.
The floor in what was apparently the foyer is littered with mounds of debris and a year’s worth of dead leaves.
The doors to the outside stand open, and you can see the tall grass out in the courtyard.
Two smaller doors flank the main door in the north and south walls of the entrance.
To the west, ornate double doors stand ajar, revealing the darkness within.
To the south, at the far end of the hall, two doors face each other from the east and west walls.
What now?

"To the end of the hall," directs Allric, "Let us check there first. Left, then right, hmm?"

Re: Session 2: The Dwarven Monastery
I'm intrigued by the secret door in the armoury room too. We should check that before we camp again.
Re: Session 2: The Dwarven Monastery
You move to the end of the hall without incident, and look to the door on your left (east). It seems normal enough. Trying the handle, you find that the latch clicks stubbornly. It would appear to be locked.

Rabon smiles at the click of the door and pulls out his thieves tools. Who else is entirely curious what valuables were left for us on the other side of this lock?
for clarification, he is watiing for the input of others.

Re: Session 2: The Dwarven Monastery
Some doors are locked to keep things in, not keep people out... Aoife whispers, grasping her hammer.

Rabon considers this and then shakes his head. Yeah, I suppose, but they are usually valuable things.

Re: Session 2: The Dwarven Monastery
Once Rabon unlocks the door I will use the pole to push it open.

Allric steps up to help Rabon, placing his ear to the door to help alleviate concern of living things locked within and also to hear the tumblers catch as Rabon works the lock.

Seeing little resistance and some encouragement, Rabon kneels next to the lock and inserts his picks in an attempt to persuade it.
Ob, please.

Re: Session 2: The Dwarven Monastery
The lock is simple, but a bit rusty.

No help from Thag, though. Sorry.

Hey.Are you calling me simple!?Ludanto wrote:...simple, but a bit rusty.
With what skill shall I use? I would guess Criminal. If so, it is Criminal 4 +1D help +1D (thieves tools). So I'll use Rough Hands against myself and earn a check straight away. 5D vs Ob2.
Not that I will, necessarily, but could I add a die from Laborer to shift the door a bit, allowing the rusty tumblers to fall correctly?

Criminal 5D vs Ob 2 [1d6] = 1, [1d6] = 2, [1d6] = 2, [1d6] = 3, [1d6] = 3Rusty Tincanne wrote:Seeing little resistance and some encouragement, Rabon kneels next to the lock and inserts his picks in an attempt to persuade it.
Ouch?
Re: Session 2: The Dwarven Monastery
Sorry. Anniversary weekend is slowing me down.
Rabon works the tumblers of the lock with his tools. It's slow work, and the thick callouses on his fingers make it difficult to feel the subtle clicks and shifts. Just when he thinks that he has it, the tumblers clank a final time... and nothing. And now his tools are stuck in the lock!
Also, I forgot that this hall is in dim light, not that it mattered.

Allric quirks an eyebrow at Rabon. "Troubles?"

Re: Session 2: The Dwarven Monastery
Rabon's shoulders tense at the question. He is reluctant to acknowledge defeat, but he knows he will need to fess up eventually. Damned picks are stuck tight. They're brand new so I don't got the feel for 'em yet. Nothing for it but to leave 'em and chop or bash the door down. Who wants a go?
