chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
Seegar was the strange old man you first met on approaching the village of Drumlin. (The one who insisted you pinch each other so he would know you're real.)
Hennoth nods and heads out the door in search of Seegar.

Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
Graela is the last one up the stairs and into the room. She greets the dogs warmly, says hello to Hennoth, and then waits for the young cleric to return from his search.
Winter is coming...
Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
Let me know if there is anything else you want to do first.
Hennoth returns to the shack and hikes his thumb back toward the door. Seegar sent John-John to show us a "cottage" we can use for the night. Outside, the hulk that is John-John stands swaying, dull eyes looking at the ground as he waits for your party. Stepping outside, you see some of the villagers hurrying to different buildings, furtive looks upward at the rapidly setting sun. There is an air of apprehension to them. Locks rattle loudly in place as soon as doors are shut. Windows are shuttered tight.
When you all stand before John-John, he walks away to lead you to a small cottage not too far from the shack you just left. (You came from the red shack of the red and green side-by-side shacks against the palisade wall in the NW corner of the village. You are taken to the yellow building just north of the west village gate.) The inside of the cottage is simple but not too shabby. There is a cot and a small table with two crude chairs. Two shelves on one wall hold some simple dishes and utensils. The fireplace is dark but there is stacked firewood to the side. Someone obviously lived here but not recently, judging from the dust. While it will be a bit snug with all of you in this one room, it isn't too cramped. There is a bar to the side of the door that can be used to bar it across the middle. A window on each of the four sides of the cottage has a wooden shutter that can be latched as well.

Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
Manred takes notice of the strange behaviour of the villagers. "Why are they so afraid of the dark?" he asks John-John. Looking at the fireplace, he adds, "Let's get a warm fire going in here—or do you villagers avoid fires at night, too?"

Travix is glad to see the town oaf again.
"Well, John-John my good man, good to see you well again, and as talkative as ever, I see. Tell me big fella, who once lived here? This dwelling is not well known in town to be a usual place to house visitors, is it?

Like Manred, Graela frowns at the strange behaviors of the townsfolk. The fear in their eyes takes her back to her childhood when she and the other children would huddle in the dark while their mothers and fathers fought off whatever monster had wandered into their tribal grounds.
She shakes herself and inspects the cabin, hoping John-John will give an answer about his fellow townsfolk.

Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
John-John looks at the floor when answering your questions. People disappear in the dark. People afraid. Dillas lived here but their daughter got took. They said they was leaving after that. Then they was gone but no one saw them leave. An arm sweeps to indicate the room. And they didn't take anything with them.
He glances at the fireplace and then the door. Fire fine- stay warm. Bar the door. The huge man turns and goes, leaving your group in a rapidly cooling room as the light dissipates outside.

Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
Travix smirks.
"Well, if night time is the right time, we might need to go out and have a look around for ourselves. I think we should get a little rest here, maybe eat a little something, and then go pay the butchers another visit. Now that we know about their secret door, we should be able to get another look inside the place. We need to gather some more information about the map fragment and figure out how to get our hands on it."
The mage takes a look around the cabin to see if any evidence was left behind that nobody else found.

Manred agrees, but doesn't look happy about it. "There's no point in holing ourselves up here all night. We might as well go skulking around in the dark. Heading back to the chop shop after a little rest sounds reasonable. If villagers have gone missing during the night, I'll bet that secret tunnel has something to do with it."
Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
Salt Peter inspects the cottage for any secret doors or compartments, crawling around on hands and knees to check out those hard-to-reach places. "If'n folks were snatched right outter 'ere, mebbe this bunk's gotter 'atchway like tha' other one, aye?"

Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
Salt Peter takes a cat-nap while waiting for complete darkness to fall, eats some grub, and wonders about the availability of beer or spirits. After that, he's ready to head out and cause a little mayhem. "E'erbody ready? Le's gwan, then. 'Ennoth, think we kin take ther dawgs ter a butchers, 'r should we leave 'em back?"

Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
Travix nods his head over his usual nighttime smoking session, blowing large white rings up towards the ceiling.
"We should do a little scouting as we make our way there to see if we notice anything out of the ordinary. If things get weird out here after dark, we might spot something that requires further investigation."

Having dozed a bit while waiting for dark, Graela gets up and is ready to go. "The sooner we get this figured out, the better."
Winter is coming...
Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
Manred rests by the fire and then suits up to go. "What scouting do you have in mind? Should we see what's around the other tunnel exit in the middle of the woods?"

Travix
"I was thinking we could search the whole town over before infiltrating the orcs cave again. We could take a stroll around the perimeter of the place to see if we can spot or hear anything interesting. The magic candles we got might help with that. We also still need to figure out how to find this other map fragment I keep hearing about."

"Let's move out then," Graela says, pulling on her boots. She nudges her sleeping friend, "Salty! Wakey wake > we're gonna take a look around tha town."
Flinching at the smell of her boots, she grumbles, "I could really use a bath."
She sniffs Manred. "You could too."

Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
"I guess it couldn't hurt," says Manred.
After everyone has suited up, he stalks around town, trying the old "wedge something into the door" trick: he'll find a thin twig and wedge it into a corner of the trap door, so that it will fall if something opens it; he then does the same to the front door of the cottage with the trap door, and the town gates, and the cottage they are staying in just for good measure.

Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
Salt Peter grinds the sleep crumbs out of his eyes and gets ready to head out. "We wanner scout aroun' asa great clompin' 'erd, or split up a bit? Mebbe in pairs?"
Re: chapter 5 - In Search of Sausages
The elf slinks around to put all Trigger Twigs in place. At both of the village gates, the elf notices fresh blood generously daubed on the side of each gate and flowers placed on nails near it. Both appear as if they are an offering or appeasement as if to serve as a ward. With the twigs in place to check later, the group is ready for their nighttime reconnaissance.
