Pocc in no condition to argue about anything looted from the ship only stakes a claim to items he and his men salvaged before he was attacked by the hellhound letting the men that helped him take their claims first the sea druid is only really interested in the papers, charters and other items he pocketed personally. Knowing how much his men enjoyed the eye patches he wont argue to take those back at all.

Rexlin

Rexlin just can't help himself. He gives a sincere salute to the damn fool of a cleric as he goes down with the ship. After all the formalities of saluting the sinking vessel are done, Old Devil's Scowl will walk to have an aside with Fishy. "Nice fancy shirt, this one. Feels like it might be magic, to boot. Still, What say you I trade it to you for an extra musket? Once we are in port you can even it out by getting me a pair of nice heavy leather straps for them both so I can wear them over my back like those Olmac spear warriors do with their pig stickers. You leave a nice letter with the captain that it comes to me if something happens to you. We have a deal?" He'll spit in his palm and hold out his hand to his friend.

Soon after...

Rexlin will go to find Pocc. "well, Lad, you've looked better. Need anything?"

Just slightly after that...

The old marine will barge in on Siggard. "What's this bullshit I hear about you taking on a hell hound with half the crew up your waddle? Have they been exaggerating again on deck or are you half mad?" He'll then grin? and slap the mage on the back with a chuckle. "Keep it up, and we will have to get another ship just to hang all your death-heads on. Maybe they should start calling you, Siggard Tueur de Bêtes"

Honestly... only a while later. Probably as they are getting within sight of the next ship but before the Captain begins shouting orders...

Rexlin comes up to Elijah. "Well, lots of men in a bad way. Poor ol Pocc is going to be smarting for a while but looks like he will make it. How about you, Brother?" After the Mad Prophet answers he'll hold out the pieces of the wooden holy symbol. "No sure how the Sea King will feel about this, but I was worried the priest would try something. I'll make penance if I need to,
but either way I wanted to surrender it to you for proper disposal. I don't know enough about this stuff, and frankly, it scares me to think I might wind up on the wrong end of some God's ill will."

Szmodics

seems to arrive in the cargo hold as the last of the Iberian sailors and devil dogs are put to death. Enough time for a quick scout around between the lower berth bunks and helping haul out the looted tusks and sacks of copper ore.

He will track Siggard the mage down and ask "Can you locate objects with your arcane gifts? maybe find a safe or deposit box?" The rogue will search again the splintered and blasted master cabin quarters in the hope of finding some hidden cache, seems the most likely place after all.

Finally he will watch the San Roque sink and then report as ordered back to the medics on the McGregor's Revenge. Healing after San Roque battle [1d8] = 3
He will also use his Constellation Locket to mark on a nautical map the location of theSan Roque wreck.

Pocc replies to Rexlin "Armor. I'll need new armor damned hell hound burned my armor up. Other than that I've found my courage. Thanks for checking on me."

OGRE MAGE wrote:Siggard stops the overzealous pirates before they throw out a perfectly good non planer specimen, just because it scratched and burned them a little bit.

"Hey! Perryman and I could use some of that thing! You codfish already know that I have a minor fetish for keeping the dead things we've killed around."

He retrieves the hellhounds carcass before it sinks to the bottom for good, then asks VdP to haul it back to the "Revenge" for him.

"And as far as that fancy collar goes, Gin and I were the first ones on the scene, so the pirates code clearly dictates that it belongs to us!!! However, never let it be said that Siggard Hagslayer is not a fair half man. So, why don't we do this......instead of having a heated argument and possible bloodshed over the damn thing, why don't we just agree to sell it off and split the profits from it up equally? I will keep it safe for the time being and use my magic to discover everything that I can about it. If it is just another shiny, then we could sell it at our next port. I will be happy to keep it safe and sound for now."

"Do we have an accord then?"

If the others agree to these terms, the mage happily scarfs up the booty strap and secures it in his belt pouch.

Never being a big fan of the heavy lifting, the mage spends the rest of his limited time still aboard searching the entire ship for any hidden holds or secret closets before it goes down for good, wondering what happened to the elusive ships captain. He owes his own the mans severed head, after all.
Geoffrey nods.

just checking if injured all folks added a [1d8] after battle healing to their sheets.

The deck of the McGregors' Revenge is a hustle of activity.

Siggard collects the hellhound carcass and dissects a few pieces of the body for future experimental spell use. His last 'mage brew' anointed cannonballs hardly went off with a bang. (one round in the Long nine' prow cannon remains to be tested). The pirates agree for the jewelled dog collar to be shared equally between them though insist the keeper wears it on board so at least they know it is not lost. Van de Poel nudges Siggard jokingly, "at least folk will retrieve your carcass too if you go overboard!"

Further searching of the cabins disappointingly finds nothing of extra personal value. Those papers found are studied and translated during the next few hours.

Pocc receives a gift of studded leather armour from a shimmering clothed Rexlin who wears a cuirass made from pangolin scales and adorned in boar tusk clasps.

Captain Lazarus leads a memorial service to those crewmen who died taking the San Roque and orders an inquisition, though not an Iberian type, into the disappearance of Vana the half-orc pirate.

During the next few hours as the sloop navigates to find the crippled Sierra Nevada, all the spell casters may renew their memorized spells.

Please update sheets with hp, ac, inventory and spells. Any public shared info otherwise use private forums. Will update next later tomorrow.

Szmodics

If he can keep his group of pirate followers together then Szmodics will do that, maybe when close enough to the Sierra Nevada to load a cannon as a team.

The privateer sloop, McGregor's Revenge sails South-East after the crippled ocean barque Sierra Nevada. Having intercepted and raided its' escorting vessel the San Roque hours earlier and hauled in a bounteous cargo of ivory tusks and ore, the crews spirits are high. The injured have received the benefit of surgery at the hands of 'butcher' Vayne and Pascale who extricate shrapnel wounds and sew lacerations with the guidance from the Monte Verde medical charts. (Geoffrey receives +4hp in healing and also a share with Elijah of 100gp each for selling the books on).

The characters go about their assigned duties and also replenish their memorized spells. Pocc uses the Iberian owl lecturn to complete his studies in half the time and then sets about adjusting his oversized studded armour. He is assigned navigational bridge duty at the helm with Rico. Iggway checks on the lycan infected children. Siggard and Mr Perryman squash into the arcane cabin and go over again the experiments they are conducting. Since developing the 'boomstones' Mr P has had little success with other studies and has had to deputise in Mr Simonsen's absence. Siggard is convinced his mage brew is good and the spell was not effective only due to the skill of the cannon firing crew. Dogger the dwarf is therefore seconded to drill his motley crews into fine tuning their load and fire efforts. Geoffrey, Rexlin, Zoggrot and Szmodics and put to task. (all add a single +1 to your next cannon firing attempt)

Elijah and Holden remain NPC characters.

Also up on deck and walking the boards with Captain Lazarus is Catriona the doppelganger. Her form is of a beautiful and sultry female though she is dressed in clothes borrowed from the settler women. The captain has a sense of future foreboding regarding the former Succubus escort and she remains under an armed guard. The rumour circulating is that she knows the whereabouts of buried treasure. For now though, the trove sought lies on the horizon, the Iberian military barque en route to the Bahamas.

Lazarus shares with the crew."I understand from gathered secretive papers that the vessel we pursue is home to a troop of experienced sailors, carrying a bargaining truce for the Breton governors to consider. A wealthy bribe in on board as well as military secrets and an order to sink a frigate. Taking her whole will not be easy but we shall have our hand in this regions politics and a finger in the cherry pie of jewels she bares".

In the late evening as the sun begins its western descent, the crows' nest signal sails on the horizon. The Sierra Nevada, limping across the waves is spotted and once more drums echo in the bowels of the sloop to call All Hands to order.

I intend to run this encounter in a similar way to before with an exchange of cannon fire before closing to boarding if possible. So folk will make a dex check for their loading and then a 'to hit' attack for their cannon fire. Characters not involved in the cannon crews will still give an action post as other possibilities may happen. Attacks will follow a line of long range, medium range, short range all subject to the sailing skills of the crews to close the distance between vessels.

If you do close to board and choose to engage in melee, I will ask each character to give me two attacks rolls and one roll for each person they lead plus an action post for each 'round'. You may each have another chance to rally a group of pirates to follow you with another successful charisma check, adding your notoriety as a bonus to the roll. I think that seems to work well, let me know in the OOC forum for your thoughts.

I won't pull any dice in the cannon fire so characters caught in the fiery radius of blasts will have to make saving throws against the cannon damage, so hope you all stay lucky. Please update sheets to reflect current AC, HP and if you carry potions, spells to use.

Post any action you wish your character to do or say prior to the next narration.

Siggard locates the cannon that still holds his enchanted ball, hoping that he doesn't injure or kill any more of his comrades with it. If the ball still holds its enchantment, he warns Dogger and the others and tells them to shoot this particular cannon at the largest contingent of men once they get close enough to fire.

He takes his rest and heals his friend Gin, poking around with Mr. Perryman in their quarters to see if he has any more of those boomstones he could part with before the next attack. After securing the salvaged hell hound parts in glass jars filled with smelly chemicals, the mage studies his book and memorizes himself some different spells.

Rexlin
GreyWolfVT wrote:Pocc thanks Rexlin for the armor "Thank you Rexlin, my armor was burned off by that hellhound at least it was defeated in the end, the unnatural creature. Good riddance I say."
He gives a tooth, oddly walrus-like grin, his eyes filled with an almost out of character, obvious humor. "Aye, aye to that.
Here, let me help you with that, this strap is a little tricky, but it keeps the midsection from twisting like that... There, see? That'll be a better fit now. It's a good set of leathers there, and it has seen me through a lot of action. Oil it like your favorite whore once a full moon when you're spending time on land and twice that when out to sea and she hug you through the thick of it all."

Spearmint wrote:...Dogger the dwarf is therefore seconded to drill his motley crews into fine tuning their load and fire efforts. Geoffrey, Rexlin, Zoggrot and Szmodics and put to task. (all add a single +1 to your next cannon firing attempt)
Goes to task with the drills. The militant routine of it all felt natural to him. Truth be told, those that watching him could tell it held an almost meditative quality to it for the grizzled veteran. Even as his body pour sweat from exertion, he never really seemed tired, but to the contrary, exhilarated by the efforts and repetition of it all.
Also up on deck and walking the boards with Captain Lazarus is Catriona the doppelganger. Her form is of a beautiful and sultry female though she is dressed in clothes borrowed from the settler women...
Rexlin, like so many, found himself standing there stunned for more than a few moments as he watched the seductress saunter by. He was sure he had never seen a more comely wench, and to be quite blunt, it made him feel 15 years younger just watching her hips rolls as she moved past. Feeling a chill go up his back he tore his gaze away and went back to his duty. "Fire, Lads! That lass is smoldering with fire! Great Gods!"
Rexlin grins wider and wider as they bounty of their prey is described. He hollers out for everyone to hear. Here's to taking the ship in floating order. Then we will sail under Commandor Lazarus! And we'll all buy him a new hat to once in port to boot!
A big one!"

In the late evening as the sun begins its western descent, the crows' nest signal sails on the horizon. The Sierra Nevada, limping across the waves is spotted and once more drums echo in the bowels of the sloop to call All Hands to order.
Rexlin leans over to Siggard while the mage continues to fiddle with his magicy balls. "I'm hoping the captain gives the order to grapeshot. We can clear the deck with those pellets in a heartbeat. Saw it done once when we were desperate, and we loaded a cannon with beans. Beans I tell you! Made a horrible cloud that spread out all over the other deck, but once it settled and blew away the whole damn crew on the other side was dead or begging for the coup de grace. Heck of a sight."

Szmodics

Will carry his pre-loaded crossbow with him and chooses to load the last one in the cannonade line. It is interesting that this doppelganger Catriona is walking free. He acknowledges her presence by tipping his hat and saluting Captain Lazarus as he walks by. He whispers a song he got bard Holden to pen and pays the sailors a few gold each to hum it discreetly in the rigging while sailing.

"I've had nothing but bad luck
Since the day I saw the cat at my door
So I came into you sweet lady
Answering your mystical call

Crystal ball on the table
Showing the future, the past
Same cat with them evil eyes
And I knew it was a spell she cast

She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you...
She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you from behind...

Give me the ring on your finger
Let me see the lines on your hand
I can see me a tall dark stranger
Giving you what you hadn't planned

I drank the potion she offered me
I found myself on the floor
Then I looked in those big green eyes
And I wondered what I came there for...

She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you...
She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you from behind...

If you're out on a moonlit night
Be careful of them neighbourhood strays
Of a lady with long black hair
Tryin' to win you with her feminine ways

Crystal ball on the table
Showing the future, the past
Same cat with them evil eyes
You'd better get out of there fast...

She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you...
She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you...

She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you...
She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you...

She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you...
She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you..."
(Devil woman by Cliff Richards)

To the party characters who ask him, he says "That Turks pirate Djebel Tarik will be hunting for her. She is some clue to a treasure kept by the mage cult on Eleuthera. The captain De Courcey who she throat cut had these magi tattoos. Hence she studied him real close up and personal. The ink in the tattoos were poisonous and drove De Courcey half mad, hence the pirate used a doppelganger to mimic the designs on real skin without invoking the poisonous enchantment. Death follows her though, the injured spine shot sailor in the medic galley garrotted himself with cheese wire... I think she twisted his mind..."

disrespect of Captain and senior officers, licentiousness, fornications and blasphemy will not be permitted on board
Early evening:

Captain Lazarus is not deaf to the song going around the sloop, neither is 'Miss Catriona'. After days of turning a blind eye to men not wearing 'the tartan' when on duty or addressing him with formal respect, Captain Lazarus grounds his authority.
Lazarus investigates [4d6] = 16 vs wisdom

The unfortunate Holden is questioned regarding the origins of the sarcastic sloop shanty and threatened with a flogging. He points the finger at Szmodics who paid him to pen the song. Several other crew mates easily give in to betraying the Haldane pirate. Szmodics is roughly brought before the officers and after a brief statement is hog tied to the mainmast, stripped to the waist and summarily flogged for his insolence towards the Captain, imprudence of thought and disrespect of 'guests.' (not withstanding the fact that Szmodics, Holden and Zoggrot actually captured the doppelganger from the brothel in the first place).

Rico holds out a Cat O'Nine tails in his muscled hands. "This will hurt you a lot more than it will hurt me Small dicks,"he scorns and begins to thrash the pirate three score minus one lashes. The whipcords cut long and deep into the young sailor's back turning him into a bloody pulp. Despite his best efforts to grit teeth and bite into his gag scarf, the pain is more than he can endure and he cries out with each severe cracking of the whip.

Szmodics flogging [1d39] = 32 halved for subdual damage so 16pts of damage or until character brought to unconsciousness and zero hp. This may be halved again by a successful hard constitution save. Szmodics constitution save [4d6] = 16 . So Szmodics takes-8hp. Wisely he refrains from further verbal excesses and curses but instead defiantly calls out as crewmen cut the ropes binding him to the mast,"Captain Sir, I'm still standing, Sir", before being fainting and being dragged very groggily to the medic galley and a wash down with briny seawater. 'Butcher' Vayne ministers to the wounds but offers no further avenue of healing redress."Out of the frying pan into the fire I seeSzmodics. Healing for you costs double bearing in mind my recent losses." says the cook-cum-medic grinning while holding both a scalpel and a sharpened meat cleaver. Szmodics may respond to the All Hands call but have a penalty of -1 to his strength ability stat in any close combat attack rolls.

Pocc replaces Szmodics in the cannon crew duty. His eye-patch wearing comrades join him on deck. One smells awful and shuffles like a zombie, in unison the men chant, "Brains!",as he assists. The sniper patch wearer fine tunes the cannon elevation.

Late in the evening: The Sierra Nevada comes into view. The foremast and has been chopped down and though hasty repairs made the vessel sails on a single mainmast. Taut sheets of sail blow out over the bowsprit and are fixed to the main sail to give some extra front torque but the ocean barque lacks speed. Seeing your threat appear on the horizon the ship turns and runs a broad reach with the wind. As the hunter and hunted tack across the seas the Iberian Sierra Nevada launches a broadside opening salvo. It takes Lazarus by surprise for the distance is greater than his own long range guns. At almost 600'yards, four cannon balls skim across the surface of the waves to explode in a fiery blast only yards away. Through a long lens, uniformed buccaneers can be seen frantically re-loading their arsenal of weapons. And so the second ship to ship encounter begins.

"Return fire at four hundred yards, round shot Dogger, then close to three hundred yards men and let them have canisters of grapes to feast on if you will. Mr Crowthorne, a word of prayer for victory would not be amiss.",

"Aye Captain Sir," replies the gunnery dwarf, "Fire on my command, load, aim, fire!"

"Aye Captain Sir,"says the prophet of Poseidon and Elijah raises his trident to the heavens and with fire and brimstone eyes utters a Bless spell, intoning the depths of the deep to aid the sloops warriors.

Sierra Nevada long range 400'ft - 600'ft cannon fire. [1d20-3] = 3-3 = 0 [1d20-3] = 20-3 = 17 [1d20-3] = 20-3 = 17 [1d20-3] = 15-3 = 12
area hit, prow, deck, masts, hull, stern [1d5] = 2 [1d5] = 5 [1d5] = 4

The trained men on the Iberian barque mass around the few cannon they have. More hands to load means a greater turnaround in firing times. They are able to secure another broadside on the McGregor sloop before the party can reply. Three of the round cannon shot find their mark though injuries are thankfully light. The first hit lands on the deck blasting away one of the stored lifeboats and sending wooden splinters and lead in a scattered radius. The stern windows get blasted apart and a gaping hole into the officers' cabins is made. Curtains billow in the wind. The last hit punches through the McGregor hull and implodes inside the lower berths. Copper ore sacks deaden the impact from the injuring the sheltering settlers.

Return Fire. Each person firing should give me a [3d6] dex check for loading speed, then a [1d20] for the adjusted to hit, you need a 12 to hit successfully. Each person also give me an action post if they wish to carry out a specific task.

There are now six cannons each side with the additions taken from the previous ship so every character may join a separate crew if you wish. Siggard can save his last 'mage brew' for either a medium or short range shot. Rex cannon 1), Pocc 2) Geoffrey 3), Zoggrot 4) Siggard 5) Iggway/Szmodics 6)

Iggway finishes praying and meditating, then readies herself for the next confrontation. Donning her tartan before leaving her cabin.

Rexlin

Shouts and barks at his crew right along with Dogger. He was already eyeing his target as the canon was rolled into place. He spots where he wants the shot to go and barks for some last second adjustments for wind and drop over the long range. He then puts his match to the pan and yells loudly as his eyes track the shot exactly as his minds eye imagined it!

Load vs dex (13) to hit, damage [3d6] = 10 [1d20+1] = 20+1 = 21 [4d6] = 13 [3d6] = 17
