Florian steps forward boldly, hoping to redeem himself. He prays fervently, calling on Baudh's name as he holds his holy symbol aloft - his timorous voice only cracking once. The ghouls pause for a moment, turning towards the sound, then one of them turns and flees in terror. Florian is exhultant, but only for a moment, as he realizes the other five are charging Markd, Bandy, and him.

Bremen's crossbow bolt goes straight through the empty eye socket of one and into it's brain, dropping it backwards on the floor.

The ghouls are on Bremen and Markd with abrupt speed while Irving rushes forward to keep them away from Florian. Markd fends them off but Bandy is overwhelmed, suffering wounds from the claws and fangs of one (-4 hp, save vs Paralysis) before his longsword's riposte opens it's abdomen and spills both the ghoul and it's rancid innards on the floor. Markd also drops one with a vicious cut from his sword.

Faced with the abrupt death of three of their companions as they feel the wall of undead-enchanted blades before them, the last two turn to flee.

Markd offers a sincere congratulations to Florian for his remarkable improvement in the clerical arts.
He will then check quickly on Bandy to see if the Halfling is affected by the nasty cuts on him.

Captain Bremen presses the advantage with fervor, but his poison-numbed hands fumble with the enchanted Warhammer of Baudh. He tries to regain his composure, turning the failed swing into an elegant pirouette. He returns to the group and gives Florian a pat on the back before kneeling at Bandy's side, reassuring him the effects will wear off soon enough.


Warhammer of Baudh [1d20+2] = 4+2 = 6, [1d8+3] = 5+3 = 8
If Bandy freezes, Bremen will lower him to the ground gently and support his rigid frame with whatever is at hand, making the halfling as comfortable as he can.

Bandy takes one last swing at the nearest ghoul as it turns to flee...

Longsword vs Undead [1d20+2] = 19+2 = 21 Damage [1d8+2] = 4+2 = 6

... and sweeps his blade across its back in a smooth arcing motion.

When the danger has passed, he takes a piece of fabric from his pack to bind the bite wound on his arm and asks, "What effects? I'm OK, except for this bite. Damned ghouls..."
Once he is bandaged up, he reverently wipes the gore from his sword as the glowing blade diminishes in brightness.

OOC: Is Bandy "Moderately" wounded? He has 9 or 13 HP left. That's more than half...

Markd and Bandy cut down the last two ghouls before they can escape, leaving a total of five new, fetid corpses on the floor of the chapel. The chapel is solemnly silent once more.

Bandy, yes you have 9 of 14. We can call it minorly if you like - I was being judicious in calling it moderate but felt a need to differentiate because the other "minor" wounds are all only at -1 hp from their max. ;)

Nope, no worries; was just making sure my count is accurate.

Bandy checks the corpses of the... corpses... to see if they wore anything of value in their past life and to look for clues of what they may have been before they were turned.

These are the same things we found in the other passage we had explored. Undead clergy of Baudh. We found a few that were tougher, and a few units of skeletons, too. I was hoping they wouldn't be in a knights tunnel. As he helps Bandy loot the re-dead, Captain Bremen tries to remember if the other girls had been blinded as well, and if these look to be ritually blinded.

Once they are thoroughly searched, Bremen turns his attention back to the passage he opened up.

They group inspects the ghoul corpses. They were definitely acolytes of the faith, still adorned in matching clerical robes. They were ritually blinded, and bear markings in their flesh of additional torturous rites. Bremen considers the ghouls they found in the coffins and none of that was true for them. You find their Baudhic robes are adorned with gold buttons and trim - collecting it off the five bodies yields about 9 lbs of gold.

Entering the room with the painted murals, you peer through the secret door which you have opened in the wall. Beyond it is a short entryway that opens up into a gilded vestibule, the floor and walls engraved with sigils and Baudhic art. On the far side of the vestibule is an archway opening onto the room beyond - a glimpse of what appears to be a chapel, gleaming with gold overlay, and lit by flaming braziers.

Markd looks around the vestibule. He imagines how magnificent a place this must have been back in the day.
He spies the lighting already lit. Apparently someone is here or waiting on us. Be prepared.

Bandy cautions their advance, taking the time to carefully investigate the vestibule visually before entering. The first thing you notice is that the layer of thick dust and cobwebs indicates that this door has not been opened and nothing has come this way for many, decades. Wary of magical sigils and wards, the hobbit squints at the vestibule by lantern light. There are prominent artworks of illuminated Baudhic text-work and symbols on the walls, with more of the same on the floor mixed with other less-obviously Baudhic sigils. Indeed, the floor sigils look hocus-pocus-y enough, with several half-circle rings arcing around the far doorway that don't match the symmetry of the original decoration, but he lacks the expertise to identify more. He turns to Florian for his interpretation, but the Baudhic cleric shifts his feet uncertainly. "Ummm... yes, indeed. They do appear to be warding of some kind... but, well... these foreign practitioners aren't using Southern ritual dogma... it is difficult to know..." He tries to smile comfortingly.
