Castinus approaches the thing. He notices that there are what appear to be larger and more unwieldy hand tools nearby, and that the curious object does not move at his approach. Some of the ridges and bits look like dents and there are definite scratches and remains of what could be bits of vegemite "claw".
Thief skill [1d100] = 63 No traps are detected on the curious object. Castinus espies a piece of the thing's carapace in the "chest" area that can be opened and it is partially dislodged where it appears it should be smooth.
The light panel in the ceiling above the thief and the metal golem flickers a few times, ominously. It turns off for a second and then flickers on with an audible buzz.

Castinus looks up at the flickering lights, then, his curiosity getting the better of him, tries to open the creature's chest cavity.
These are ghouls. They hang out in graveyards, they have long tongues, and they eat people.

The thief finds that one of the scattered tools can be used to pop a screw and the chest plate opens easily. Within is a maze of wires and metal rods and joints. Some of the metal rods join at bearings that--Castinus is certain!--are precious gems. Looks to be two are in good shape!
The light flickers eerily but nothing else happens while the thief does his work.
You gather closer to the curious object, now that it appears inert, and can see down the halls of the T intersection where it lies.

This was a cell or small apartment, with a bed, desk and chair. dead [1d4] = 1 There is an inanimate skeleton in the chair, slumped over the desk. A film of dust covers everything.

The black card opens this door as well and the portal quietly parts, the door disappearing into its pocket in the wall. Differing only in placement of furniture, this room is essentially the same as the last dead [1d4] = 1 including the poor soul whose bodily remains rest at desk.
