Checking Interest: Crypts & Things for B4: The Lost City
Re: Checking Interest: Crypts & Things for B4: The Lost City
After spending the night thinking about it, I will be sticking with my earlier thoughts and go with Mystara modified for a more Sword & Sorcery environment. Please work your backgrounds accordingly. As for classes, I will be using the core four plus two of the exotic:

Re: Checking Interest: Crypts & Things for B4: The Lost City
I gotta say, I'm pretty excited to play any of the classes available, so I'll roll in order and see what direction the dice take me.
I'm not terribly familiar with Mystara (it came along after my childhood's golden age of D&D), but I'll look up the basics as we go. Depending on what class I end up with, I expect I'll look for a Greek or African analogue (assuming it has them).

Re: Checking Interest: Crypts & Things for B4: The Lost City
I'm not as up on Mystara as I would like to be having started with 1st ed AD&D and only infrequently moving into Basic D&D.
Here is a brief write-up of the Known World in Mystara:
Here is a brief write-up of the Known World in Mystara:
- The Thyatian Empire - which could be compared to Byzantine Empire with a mix of Roman Empire thrown in.
- The Grand Duchy of Karameikos - comparable to medieval southeastern Europe.
- The Principalities of Glantri - which is similar to medieval western Europe, ruled by wizard-princes.
- The Ethengar Khanate - a Mongol-like society.
- The merchant-run Republic of Darokin - which is based somewhat loosely on the mercantile states of Medieval Italy.
- The Emirates of Ylaruam - which have an Arabic flavor.
- The Heldannic Territories - ruled by an order of religious Knights devoted to the Immortal Vanya, similar to the Teutonic Knights.
- The Atruaghin Clans - which have an Amerindian feel.
- The nation of Sind - based on India during the rule of the Mughals.
- The Northern Reaches (Kingdoms of Ostland, Vestland, the Soderfjord Jarldoms) - based on Scandinavian kingdoms at various periods of history.

Not really up on ystara either, but also have no particular attachment to Zarth.
Any or all of the C&T classes sound fun to play, so I will likely do the Old School roll stats in order and see who I get. This being C&T I won't be surprised if life is nasty, brutish, and short anyway.

I've sent a PM to ToniXX for a campaign forum. Once I hear back from him, I will post info here and move all relevant info to the forum.

Re: Checking Interest: Crypts & Things for B4: The Lost City
I'll be perfectly forth coming about this most all of my experience until I joined the Unseen Servant was in AD&D 1e and 2e never really much anything else. So most of the talk on this is stuff I have no really knowledge of/on. Though it was pointed out to me this game system is similar to white box and shouldn't be too hard for me to understand. Just wanted to be up front and honest folks.

Re: Checking Interest: Crypts & Things for B4: The Lost City
No problem GW. The only major thing were have talked about so far is geography and using the old Moldvay/Cook Known Worlds as the campaign world.
As for character classes:
As for character classes:
- Barbarian - similar to 1st edition Barbarian
- Fighter - similar to 1st edition Fighter plus some skills
- Thief - similar to 1st edition Thief
- Sorceror - this one is different
- White Magic - beneficial magic like buffs and healing; causes the Dark Others to take notice
- Grey Magic - illusions and bending reality in a non-malicious manner
- Black Magic - harmful, coercive and ultimately corrupting to the Sorcerer who depends upon its evil power.
- Disciple - monk with defiler (from Dark Sun) powers
- Elementalist - magic-user with powers tied to the four elements

Re: Checking Interest: Crypts & Things for B4: The Lost City
alright well the geographical locations are also foreign to me most of my location knowledge stems from forgotten realms.
As for classes I'm going to wait and see what the dice roll up and what others create before entirely deciding.

Re: Checking Interest: Crypts & Things for B4: The Lost City
Thanks for the link, drpete! And ybn1197, thanks for the primer on locations.
GreyWolfVT, C&T is really close to basic old school D&D with a bit of contemporary streamlining. A few genre-oriented differences pop out, though:
• No Tolkein races. Conan didn't hang out with hobbits.
• No Saving Throws. Instead you have a Luck score (1d6+6) which you have to roll under. And it diminishes by 1 each time you get Lucky. You can also use Luck in other ways, like maxing out damage on a strike.
• You have one Skill score. It starts at 15 and gets lower as you level up. Roll over. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this mechanic plays.
• Any class can backstab, because its a backstabby kind of game. +2 to +4 to hit, double damage.
• When you hit 0 hp, you lose CON points.
• WIS acts as Sanity points. You can go insane and get turned into an NPC!
• Magic comes in three flavors: White, Grey, and Black. White is rare because it's like a dinner bell for evil. Black is dangerous, because it corrupts the caster.
The pdf is worth picking up. There's a lot of nice ideas in there.

I'm still waiting to hear back from ToniXX about the forum. In the meantime, here is a link to a blog by Bighara where he talks/reviews C&T Remastered. http://zarthtourism.blogspot.com/2016/1 ... tered.html
Re: Checking Interest: Crypts & Things for B4: The Lost City
It takes a few days. In the meantime, you can create the campaign on the roller, which will provide the campaign number. I forget if ToniXX needs the number, but we players can use it to start chargen.

Re: Checking Interest: Crypts & Things for B4: The Lost City
Oh dang:
Stats: STR:10, INT:15, WIS:6, DEX:10, CON:4, CHR:3
Smart, sickly, foolish, and absolutely the most unlikeable person you've ever met.
Oh guys, how am I going to role play this character without making you all hate me forever?

Here's my stats
Strength 14
Dex 10
Con 13
Int 7
Wis 8
Chr 4
My characters a compete uggo lol. I'm thinking I'll make him a battle scarred fighter with a sketchy past as mercenary.
Edit:900 gold as well
His name will be Taurus Silverheart
He will hail from the republic of Republic of Darokin. A gifted warrior with the heart of a merchant, his only allegiances are those made from contracts and blood stained coins. Taurus will happily serve the whim of nobles and criminals alike, so long as he's paid. Most previous relationships with friends and brothers in arms has ended.in tragedy and bad blood, so much that Taurus lives as a vegabond to escape men that want him dead, and selling his sword at every new village he comes upon.
What few know is that his entire family was killed by plague that struck his village while he was off trying to carve a name for himself. Upon finding out Taurus became a drunkard and now completely amoral. It was during this time that he aided nefarious forces in the seiege of his own village, so blinded with rage was he. After his notoriety spread he was forced to a life on the road.
Luck: Rolled a 5,+6 is 11
