Part 10 - The Temple Again
Continuing on from last time...
With the voice of his deity, the gnome commands the gnoll to stop. Saving throw [1d20-2] = 11-2 = 9 As the gnoll's hand grips the doorknob he freezes in place!
This plastered, painted chamber was probably one of the many guest rooms of the Temple. It now holds a cot, two sofas, some cushions, a small table, and a battered cabinet. The carpeting on the floor is of a gray hue, indicating connection to the Air Temple.
Calthas opens the cabinet, where he finds some old clothes, five wax candles, a quart of honey, and a hand axe. He searches the bodies (three of them snoring loudly) finding 13PP, 13GP, 13SP, 16CP.
He also notices that the door to the south swings open easily but it has nothing in it but two piles of old tapestries and rags (bedding) and four spears standing in a far corner. Oh, and 19GP, 19SP, and 18CP among the rags.

Thurwin points toward the gnoll and says quietly "On guard! Where was he running to? Perhaps there are reinforcements behind that door. Let's carefully check, shall we? No surprises, men."
OOC: Perhaps we kill the gnoll and see what's behind the door. Also - SPOILS THREAD UPDATED WITH GOLD, SILVER AND PLATINUM. I didn't add any of the other stuff.

Tavin peeks in the room. The entire room is gray—carpeting, plaster, wall hangings, furnishings, etc.—and spartan. Lamps of grayish metal on a small table and a wall shelf dimly light the room; a pair of upholstered chairs are by the table. On the table are some pewter dishes and a plain crock half-filled with mead. The shelves hold some foodstuffs, a few scrolls and books, and several human and demi-human skulls. A narrow bed is in the northeast corner, with a small stand beside it.
A man wearing a cloak with his back to the door stands at the table, looking at something. He barks out, angrily, I said, do not disturb me.

The room through the door east, that only Tavin has peeked through has no other doors that he's seen so far. Everyone is still in the bugbear/gnoll room at this point (other than Tavin)

Tavin strides into the room Tavin bastard sword [1d20] = 17, dmg [2d4] = 7 and easily whacks the guy on the head. It's a good hit but not enough to knock him out.

The room goes dark as the man completes his spell, a 15' globe of darkness envelopes the area around him. You hear movement to the east as the man apparently scrambles away. The darkness does not follow him.
Calthas Calthas longbow into darkness [1d20-2] = 4-2 = 2, dmg [1d8] = 8 fires and Tavin feels the arrow go through his gi, barely missing him.
Tavin Tavin unarmed darkness [1d20-4] = 13-4 = 9, dmg [1d4] = 2 feels cloth at his fingertips! His target must have just dodged him.
Thurwin sees the room go dark!
Effric Effric scimitar darkness [1d20-3] = 18-3 = 15, dmg [1d8+1] = 2+1 = 3 feels his blade whack something and hears an oof but nothing else. He must have hit the man but he doesn't sound subdued.
Calmert charges Calmert mace [1d20-4] = 4-4 = 0, dmg [1d6] = 6 smashing into the table that the man was at and getting tangled up in the inky blackness.
Bror, Pax, and Sean stand with weapons drawn but don't want to risk hurting their compatriots.

OOC: I'm pretty sure we've lost Tamerlaine (Bror) when I moved to NC and JL Duncan (Pax) on the move from the GG forums to here. I might let those characters wander off. I've already gotten a request from a fellow gamer from these boards to join one or both of my games here, so perhaps one of those characters will "evolve", if that's cool with everyone. Hey, Calmert was suddenly a gnome when connivingsumo joined us.

Tavin has a sinking feeling the darkness is probably centered on him. Standing still: Comrades, it's me... Tavin. I think the spellcaster hit me a darkening spell. Can anyone remove it?

"Damn!" thinks Calthas before dropping his bow and bringing his blade in his hand. He will try to approach the sphere of darkness, but not enter it at first.
