[Re-recruitment] In Search of Adventure

#1 Post by thirdkingdom »

I'm already running this campaign on another board, but thought I'd see if anyone was interested here. The game would be set in the Grand Duchy of Karameikos and would use, as its base, the In Search of Adventure compilation of B2-9. However, I run a pretty sandboxy game -- the two that I'm running right now neither group has picked up the published hooks from ISOA.

We would be using the Dark Dungeons ruleset, available http://www.gratisgames.webspace.virginm ... geons.html. Dark Dungeons is a retro-clone of the Rules Cyclopedia and hews very close to the original. I like it mainly because the .pdf is free, so there is no excuse for players not to download a copy.

As a DM I make all the die rolls, including character creation. For each character I will provide five sets of six Attributes. You are free to choose which set you would like to play. However, no point swapping or modifying is allowed. PCs begin with max hp at first level. A couple of other tips about my style. I run a pretty fast-paced game and aim for at minimum a 24-hour turn around for combat. Role-playing is fine, but I prefer that each post "count" towards moving the action forward, especially if there is a choice on the table. For instance, if the PCs are trying to decide which corridor to take, you can role-play as much as you like, but please include a preference as to the desired direction in your post. I also follw encumbrance rules fairly closely. My feeling is that in a game where XP is based upon the amount of treasure you bring home you had better have a pretty good idea how much you can carry.

If I get interest I will go ahead and post additional information.

Can you put me on the wait list? I'm interested but am already in a few games. I'll give some others a chance to get in first.

Very good. I will roll and post stats this evening when I get home -- I post from my phone during the day, which is inconvenient for rolling.

Saw this over at the ODD74 boards. I'd be interested.

Hey, just got word of this through a mutual acquaintance on a Dark Dungeons group on G+.

I'm in if you are still accepting players :)

I will join in. Don't really know the difference between Basic/Expert and BECMI though.

We will actually be using the Dark Dungeons ruleset, downloadable for free, which is essentially the Rules Cyclopedia. The biggest change for character creation are going to be skills (pretty basic) and Weapon Feats (essentially weapon skills).

1)STR 14, DEX 8, CON 6, INT 9, WIS 9, CHA 6
2)STR 13, DEX 9, CON 9, INT 14, WIS 13, CHA 6
3)STR 10, DEX 13, CON 11, INT 14, WIS 11, CHA 12
4)STR 12, DEX 11, CON 13, INT 9, WIS 12, CHA 11
5)STR 11, DEX 5, CON 14, INT 10, WIS 9, CHA 14

Starting Gold= (3d6=14)=140 gp

I have applied for a subforum, and will go ahead and post important stuff (house rules, expectations, etc.) there once it is open. For anyone looking to go ahead and create characters, keep in mind no Attribute swapping/modifying, like most older editions the ability scores are not as important, PCs start out with max hp, and I would like character backgrounds/descriptions kept to a maximum of 2 sentences. I consider "Cassius is a young man out to seek his fortune. He is of average height and build." to be a perfectly acceptable background/description. I am a firm believer in the idea that the story is what happens during play, not what you come up with beforehand.

I'll take Roll 4, and I'll play a thief called Grey Jake. Street-smart and tough, he knows the real loot comes in dungeon adventures. He also figures the best way to get the most money is to harmoniously mesh with the party.

I've sent out six sets of stats. I'd like to get the IC up Friday evening, Eastern US time. So, as I posted earlier, I'm looking for between 5-8 players. I could use a couple of more people, if there is more interest.

Marodin is a cleric of the Church of Karameikos. He is an adventurer in order to promote the spread of law and civilization, but isn't above a bit of personal enrichment in the process.
