Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Lumba be a good business, yeahh, Hyde smiles. Been makin' a livin' fallin' and splittin' trees for years. Makes me less than popula with the Druids about, His eyes wander to Hellebore. One time a batch a' them Druids run me off, yeahh. A tall one with a beard, I guess he be the leada, he swatted me with his walkin' stick. Felt like thunda hit me, and I runofft. Left an impression on me, yeahh. Left a mark, too. The next day I went out to retrieve my gear, and them Druids was still there, like they be waitin' for me. So I bopped that tall one and took his stick, and made like I was gonna club the othas with it. They runofft, but I nevva went back to that part of the forest again. He holds up his cudgel. Kept the stick, too, yeahh. Nevva could make it hit like thunda tho...

Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Anxious to get on their way, Hellebore sees the party through her fire-trapped doors and they make for Alleborg.
The sun warms the air as they proceed, and the north wind begins to fill the clouds with sky. The travel through the forest, reaching the safe zone in late morning. The gnarled forest behind them, they make good time to town, reaching the city gates about an hour after noon.
The party enjoys a frostier reception than usual from the guards. There are four of them. One leaves, hurrying inside the city gates, where he disappears into the crowd. "Hellebore Frogmorton? I'll need your weapons and pouches and you to accompany me to the magistrate."
If there is any upside to this, it's that the guards have forgotten to tax the party on their treasure.

Angus clears his throat and raises his hand. "Pardon me, feller," he says, addressing one of the guards, "but I ain't rightly familiar with your city rules. Are we allowed to go with her to see the magistrate?"

"Y-Y-yes" he replies. "As long as you don't try to interfere."
He tries to hide it, but the young guard seems...embarrassed. As if he's a bit reluctant to carry out this duty.

Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Angus nods in acknowledgment and offers a crooked smile. The guard is clearly embarrassed at having to haul one of the heroes of Alleborg up before a magistrate at the order of some hoity-toity nobles.
"Thank you kindly," Angus says gently. "I reckon I'll do that. Now, just so I'm clear—would 'interfering' include speaking? I ain't fixing on fighting or such, but it don't seem right to keep them what have something to say from saying it, if it's pertinent."

Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Hellebore smiles with all her courtesy and politeness to the timid guard. "No. No, I don't thinks so. I have never entered another's home when unwelcome, and shan't begin the practice now." She curtsies and turns to walk away.
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Angus shakes his head and rolls his eyes. "You gotta be the contrariest critter I ever met," he tells the druid. "Why don't you just go on in and take yer medicine—unless you're fixing on never going into town again?"

Yenny looks on but doesn't say anything at this point.

From somewhere nearby an exasperated sigh can be heard. Then scratching, and a yawn being stifled.

She pauses, then nods. "If they wish."Zhym wrote:unless you're fixing on never going into town again?"
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Angus rolls his eyes again and waits to find out whether the guards allow her to leave.
If AleBelly gave out XP for fighting among ourselves, Angus would be at least one level higher by now.

Hah? Hyde looks between the guards, Hellebore, and Angus. What? Wha'd I miss? What's happenin' here?
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Dandelion also looks to prevent hostilities.
Maybe they just want a copy of your turnip casserole recipe. What's the harm in going with them?

"You misunderstand, Ms. Frogmorton. Our orders are to detain you" says a second guard. His jaw is set firmly, and he grabs the halfling's cloak with his mail-clad hand.Marullus wrote:Hellebore smiles with all her courtesy and politeness to the timid guard. "No. No, I don't thinks so. By this point, a small crowd is growing, interested in the commotion. A burly man, likely a farmer based on his clothing, approaches Angus. Perhaps he's aware of the ranger's charitable contributions to those of his vocation, or maybe he's just nosy. Regardless his tone is friendly. "What's all this, then?" he asks.
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
If possible to do so with some discretion, Yenny bobs out and heads off to search for the Captain.
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
"Piper's demanding to be paid and she ain't keen on footing the bill," answers Angus. Then he realizes he's being cryptic. "Sorry. You mighta heard what we escorted some of Alleborg's highest and finest on a diplomatic mission to talk with some high and fines down south? Well, on the way there some of the Alleborg hobnobs get to acting like they're on a jolly field trip. She gets it in her head to teach them that it's dangerous out there. Didn't do anyone any harm 'cepting to their pride, but thunder o' Perun did they get offended. Now the guards here got orders to haul her up in front of the magistrate. She ain't yet, as the guards like to put it, co-operating. If you want odds on whether she'll go peacefully or take the whole dang town on herself, I'd say the odds'd be about fifty-fifty." He chuckles and waits to see what Hellebore does next.AleBelly wrote:A burly man, likely a farmer based on his clothing, approaches Angus. Qatkir snarled fiercely at the man grabbing for Hellebore, his hacked up in clear threat.
Hellebore place a gentle hand on his where he grips her cloak. gwir natur , cyffwrdd y dyn hwn, gwared ar yr holl ond ei fod yn gariad," she murmurs, smiling at him sadly.
"Let me go, and my companions may enter; I wish you no harm. But I also have an aversion to prisons and cells... We are free things not meant to be caged." She looks at him imploringly.

Dandelion rolls her eyes and states,
Please go with them. I do not think they mean to detain you for any longer than to get to the bottom of the inquiry. Prada help them if they do...

Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Two questions:
1. Is anyone else going with Yenny?
2. Any other actions? If so, please include initiative. I'll try to update tonight. I'm in CA so some of you won't get an update until tomorrow morning unless you're a night owl.

As soon as Hellebore starts talking in that weird language of hers, Angus knows exactly what she's doing. He only hopes he can stop her before the guards figure it out too.
He steps forward toward the guard and Hellebore, "Listen, y'all, there's no need to—whoop!" Angus trips over his own feet! He tumbles toward Hellebore as she's speaking the strange words.
