#1 Post by Keehnelf »

This thread will be for strategizing about Companions, once the Magi are complete! Locked for now.

So what kind of companions are people looking to have, so I can make one.

My fire midget might be interested in a big hulking brute to carry him around on his shoulders and carry his stuff for him....crouch down on their hands and knees so he can use them as steps..etc etc.

I like that! And when your mage needs to make an important speech the consort puts him up on his shoulders to tower over everyone :D

My mage could probably do with someone to contrast her haughty attitude. She's an artificer, so someone into appraisals or trade would make sense.

When I created my magus I had Merlin from Disney's Sword in the Stone in mind, so thematically it makes sense for his companion to be taken from that, too. Maybe a knobbly young squire who's been forced to take academic lessons from him, or some oafish bully like Sir Kay who's actually quite scared of magic.

I haven't really finished my character yet but I'm planning on him being obsessed with magic so I'm thinking either something Fae magical or some sort of homunculus. Something that knows secrets, is able to procure information, and has a vested interest in my character's pursuit of magic.

I was thinking of making your consort. His name would be Franz a lumberjack who while seeking prime wood at a local nobles behest got lost (ok..he was drunk) and stumbled into a fey stone ring. There he was able to accidentally stumble (literally) into the world of the fey. Like many such unfortunates he was stuck there for years upon years..drinking, feasting and so on with the fey. Eventually by design or accident he managed to stumble back into the real world. But unlike most folks he truly enjoyed his time with the fey and wants to return. So he sought you out to serve you in hopes to see or experience more things of the fey and eventually return to their world...of course he might just be crazy.

Thoughts?

I personally like that idea--motivation, independence, interesting back story. Good combo. Companions should be linked to magi, but not necessarily servants or dependents or whatever for them--that's what Grogs are for.

Yeah, I'm just clarifying that your idea is superior (for me) to something like a homunculus :)
