You know, I was real busted up when he kicked it, and it took a few days to get over it! I was really surprised at my feelings, I mean I know it's just a game! I suppose these collaborative stories we tell really make us invest in these characters over the weeks and months we spend with them, so it's no wonder.
I grew up on first the Red Box basic set and then 1st ed AD&D...played all through childhood and into high school. Stopped playing once girls became first and foremost and it stayed that way for 20 years. Only now after having a son and finding some other dads that like to play have I gotten into it again.
Ed was the first PC I've lost since restarting. Won't be the last, but it was a gut punch!
For anyone else in the same boat - be warned!
